Three Australian species with sequestrate basidiome forms are recorded for the first time in the genus Lactifluus based on nuclear ITS-LSU and morphological data. These species represent three rare independent evolutionary events resulting in sequestrate basidiomes arising from agaricoid species in three different sections in two subgenera. All three species have highly reduced basidiome forms, and no species with intermediate forms have been found. Lactifluus dendriticus is unique in the genus in having highly branched, dendritic terminal elements in the pileipellis. We provide full descriptions of two species: Zelleromyces dendriticus (= Lactifluus dendriticus comb. nov.) in Lactifluus subg. Lactifluus sect. Gerardii, and Lactifluus geoprofluens sp. nov. in Lf. subg. Lactifluus sect. Lactifluus. A reduced description is provided for the third, Lactifluus sp. prov. KV181 in Lf. subg. Pseudogymnocarpi sect. Pseudogymnocarpi, as it is currently known from a single sequence.

Multiple DNA sequences from plastid (trnL–F region and rbcL) as well as nuclear (ITS and 26S rDNA) genomes were used to infer the phylogeny of the Cuscuta californica complex. This group is currently circumscribed to include nine species distributed mostly in western North America. Four well-supported lineages have been revealed within this complex. The first lineage includes the controversial C. californica s. l., an assemblage of taxa characterized by their lack of infrastaminal scales; the second lineage consists of a single species, C. subinclusa, with short fimbriate scales. The third lineage groups C. howelliana, C. salina, and C. suksdorfii, with scales that exhibit a reduction trend, while the forth includes C. decipiens and a new species from New Mexico and trans-Pecos Texas, C. draconella, both with well-developed infrastaminal scales. Stereo, compound, and scanning electron microscopy were used to investigate the new species and compare it with C. decipiens, its closest relative, as well as to update the taxonomic treatment of C. californica s. l. Cuscuta decipiens, in its original delimitation, is polyphyletic and was thus recircumscribed. In contrast to previous taxonomic treatments of C. californica s. l., phylogenetic relationships in conjunction with morphological data support the delimitation of three species: C. brachycalyx, C. californica, and C. occidentalis.

The onchobothriid tetraphyllidean cestode genus Acanthobothrium van Beneden, 1849, parasitic in the spiral intestine of elasmobranch fishes, was investigated in the Australian region. Thirty-three species are recognised, including 27 that are new. Diagnoses compare the morphological taxonomic characters of all congeners. New species are: Acanthobothrium adlardi; A. angelae; A. arlenae; A. bartonae; A. blairi; A. brayi; A. cannoni; A. chisholmae; A. clarkeae; A. cribbi; A. edmondsi; A. gasseri; A. gibsoni; A. gloveri; A. jonesi; A. lasti; A. laurenbrownae; A. martini; A. mooreae; A. ocallaghani; A. odonoghuei; A. pichelinae; A. robertsoni; A. rohdei; A. stevensi; A. thomasae; and A. walkeri. Additional morphological data are provided for A. australe Robinson, 1965, A. pearsoni Williams, 1962, A. heterodonti Drummond, 1937 and A. urolophi Schmidt, 1973, reported previously from Australia. Acanthobothrium rhynchobatidis Subhapradha, 1955 and A. semnovesiculum Verma, 1928 are reported from Australia for the first time and are redescribed. Additional morphological details are provided for A. ijimae Yoshida, 1917 and A. grandiceps Yamaguti, 1952. Acanthobothrium wedli Robinson, 1959 is redescribed from the type host from New Zealand waters and considered a sister species of A. blairi from Tasmania. Seven new host genera for Acanthobothrium are reported: Hypnos Duméril, 1852 (Hypnidae); Pristiophorus MÜller & Henle, 1837 (Pristiophoridae); Sutorectus Whitley, 1939 (Orectolobidae); Aptychotrema Norman, 1926 and Trygonorrhina MÜller & Henle, 1838 (Rhinobatidae); Parascyllium Gill, 1862 (Parascylliidae); and Aetomylaeus Garman, 1908 (Myliobatididae). Species of Acanthobothrium are reported from the families Hypnidae, Pristiophoridae and Parascylliidae for the first time. New host species for Acanthobothrium are: Pristiophorus cirratus (Latham, 1794); Parascyllium ferrugineum McCulloch, 1911; Sutorectus tentaculatus (Peters, 1865); Aptychotrema vincentiana (Haacke, 1885); Trygonorrhina fasciata MÜller & Henle, 1841; Raja whitleyi Iredale, 1938; Raja cerva Whitley, 1939; Hypnos monopterygium (Shaw & Nodder, 1795); Dasyatis annotata Last, 1987; Urolophus cruciatus (Lacépède, 1804); Urolophus expansus McCulloch, 1916; Urolophus lobatus McKay, 1966; Urolophus paucimaculatus Dixon, 1969; Gymnura australis (Ramsay & Ogilby, 1886); Aetomylaeus nicofii (Schneider, 1801); and Myliobatis australis Macleay, 1881 (Myliobatididae). New host records for Australia include the above 16 elasmobranch species and the following three host species also known to harbour Acanthobothrium in other geographic localities: Rhynchobatis djiddensis (Forsskål, 1775) (Rhynchobatidae); Himantura uarnak (Forsskål, 1775); and Pastinachus sephen (Forsskål, 1775) (Dasyatidae). Four additional records for hosts previously reported for Acanthobothrium from Australian waters are Squalus megalops (Macleay, 1881) (Squalidae), Heterodontus portusjacksoni (Meyer, 1793) (Heterodontidae), Orectolobus maculatus (Bonnaterre, 1788) (Orectolobidae) and Trygonoptera ‘testacea’ MÜller & Henle, 1841 (Urolophidae). An emended diagnosis of the genus, key to Australian species, host-parasite checklist, phylogenetic analysis of the Australian species and an updated world list of all species of Acanthobothrium are provided.

We record two species of amphibians for the first time from Vietnam: Bufo luchunnicus from Lao Cai and Son La provinces and Amolops wenshanensis from Quang Ninh Province. Morphologically, the Vietnamese representatives of B. luchunnicus resemble the type series from China. The specimen of A. wenshanensis from Vietnam slightly differs from the type series from China by having a smaller size (SVL 33.2 mm vs. 35.7 – 39.9 mm in males) and the presence of distinct transverse bands on the dorsal surfaces of limbs. Genetic divergence between the sequence of the Vietnamese specimen and those of A. wenshanensis from China available from GenBank is 1.2 – 1.6% (ND2 gene). In addition, morphological data and natural history notes of aforementioned species are provided from Vietnam.

AbstractThe lichen genus Lecanactis Körb. in Tasmania comprises six species: L. abietina (Ach.) Körb., which is widespread and pan-temperate; L. latispora Egea & Torrente and L. neozelandica Egea & Torrente, both shared with New Zealand and with the former recorded here from the Auckland Islands for the first time; L. mollis (Stirt.) Frisch & Ertz, shared with Victoria and New Zealand; L. aff. dilleniana (Ach.) Körb., a European species recorded provisionally for Tasmania on the basis of several sterile collections; L. scopulicola Kantvilas, which is described here as new to science and apparently a Tasmanian endemic. This new taxon occurs in rocky underhangs and is characterized by a thick, leprose thallus containing schizopeltic acid, and 3-septate ascospores, 19–30 × 4.5–6 μm. Short descriptions and a discussion of distribution and ecology are given for all species. A key for all 11 Australian species of the genus is provided, including L. subfarinosa (C. Knight) Hellb. and L. tibelliana Egea & Torrente, which are recorded for Australia for the first time, and L. platygraphoides (Müll.Arg.) Zahlbr., a first record for New South Wales. Lecanactis spermatospora Egea & Torrente and L. sulphurea Egea & Torrente are also included.

Vertebrate trace fossils are reported for the first time from red beds near the top of megacyclic sequence II at Prim Point in southwestern Prince Edward Island. They occur as casts of tetrapod trackways. The ichnocoenose also includes a rich invertebrate ichnofauna. The trackmakers thrived in an area of sparse vegetation and occupied out-of-channel river sediments, most likely crevasse-splay deposits.Amphisauropus latus, represented by three trackways, has been previously reported from Germany, Poland, and Czechoslovakia. It is here interpreted as the track of a cotylosaur. It occurs together with the track of Gilmoreichnus kablikae, which is either a captorhinomorph or possibly a juvenile pelycosaur. These facilitate the assignment of a late Early Permian (late Autunian) age to the strata. The third set of footprints, those of a small herbivorous pelycosaur, compare most closely with Ichniotherium willsi, known hitherto from the Keele beds (latest Stephanian) of the English Midlands.This ichnocoenose occurs in a plate-tectonically rafted segment of crust stratigraphically equivalent to the same association of ichnofauna in the English Midlands and central Europe. The community occupied piedmont-valley-flat red beds within the molasse facies of Variscan uplands.

AbstractA new technology for obtainment of amorphous single-component metals is presented.For the first time the reduction of molybdenum oxide with formation of its amorphous phase is realized in conditions of a given quantum-chemical technology by means of vibrationally excited to the third quantum level hydrogen molecules with 1.5 ± 0.2 eV energy. The evidences of formation of this nonequilibrium amorphous phase are presented along with certain physicochemical properties of the obtained amorphous molybdenum.A model is proposed for the origin of amorphous phase under the influence of nonequilibrium quantum-chemical technology.

A study has been made of the Australian species of Aponomma and Amblyomma (Ixodoidea). Nine species of Aponomma were determined, namely A. trachysauri, A. hydrosauri, A. auruginans, A. decorosum, A. simplex, A. trimuculatum, A. tachyglossi, A, tropicum, and A. pulchrum, the last three species being new. Two previously described species, namely A. quadratum and A. ecinctum, were recognized among the material available for study. A detailed description given of each species together with essential figures. Keys to the males, females, and nymphs are included. Twelve species of Amblyomma were seen. Species previously described included A. moreliae, A. limbatum, A. albolimbatum, A. triguttatum, A. australiense, and A. papuanu. A. postoculatum and A. helvolum were not recognized among the material available for study. A. papuana is recorded from Australia for the first time. Four new species, namely A. sternne, A. echidnae, A. macropi, and A. moyi, are described. Keys to the males and females are given.

"In the article under consideration are the ways of symphony genre transformation in the early works of Valentin Silvestrov (Ukraine). For the first time, the First, Second, Third, and Fourth symphonies by the genius composers of the 20th century are analyzed as a certain stylistic system. These compositions are endowed with the features of avant-garde poetics, and as a subject of musicological reflection, they are associated with a rethinking of the semantic paradigm of the genre. V. Silvestrov's early symphonies stand out from the classical practice of European symphonies. Scientific awareness of their phenomenal nature necessitated a methodological choice aimed at the most accurate identification of the philosophical concept of the new sound universum of V. Silvestrov's music. Deep correlation of the image of a human being as a factor of the symphony poetics (the influence of philosophical concepts of human ontology in the 20th century with the transformation of the genre canon) is considered. This refers to the nonmusical dimension of the genre semantics. The study of V. Silvestrov's early symphonies reveal a new philosophy of music through gradual movement – modulation: from the neo-baroque First Symphony and ""cosmic pastorals"" Musica Mundana of the Second Symphony through the history anthropologisation in the Third Symphony ""Eschatology"" to the monodrama Musica Humana in the Fourth Symphony. The dichotomy of Musica Mundana – Musica Humana is not accidental: in V. Silvestrov's creative method, remains relevant, which is confirmed by the dramaturgy of his latest work – the Ninth symphony (2019). Keywords: V. Abstract Since the third wave of democracy, term limits have become a popular fixture of most constitutions intended to constrain the executive. Yet, recent constitutional reforms around the world show that presidents seeking re-election sometimes overturn the entire constitutional order to extend their power. What is the impact of these constitutional manipulations on the longevity of the executive in office? Using survival analysis of all political leaders and national constitutions from 1875 to 2015, this article demonstrates, for the first time, that when ‘authoritarian-aspiring’ presidents remove constitutional term limits, they increase their stay in office by more than 40%. Our findings contrast with a widely held position in the comparative authoritarian literature suggesting that dictators survive longer under institutional constraints. On the contrary, we argue that by removing constitutional barriers, rulers consolidate more power at the expense of their most ambitious allies and can stay in power longer.
