The comparative analysis of objective methods for determining the weights of criteria in the problems of multi-criteria decision-making is carried out. It is shown that the use of methods for determining the weights of criteria, based on formal processing of the decision matrix (Entropy, CRITIC, Standard deviation) for MCDM problems in some cases is not correct. It is demonstrated that the Entropy weighting method (EWM) is highly sensitive to evaluation of probabilities of states based on the decision matrix. For the Entropy method two modifications of estimation of probabilities of states are proposed that partially eliminate the contradictions of the basic EWM method. The first modification (EWM.df) is based on a statistical approach and it estimates the probabilities of states based on attribute distribution function. The second modification (EWM.dsp) estimates the probabilities of states based on the relative dispositions of attributes. Two options both have their supporting rationale. The analysis of integrated weighing methods is carried out and various options for aggregation of weights are given. An integrated EWM-Corr-method is proposed which allows to re-allocate the weights obtained by the Entropy method among correlated criteria.

Complex q-rung orthopair fuzzy set (CQROFS) is a proficient technique to describe awkward and complicated information by the truth and falsity grades with a condition that the sum of the q-powers of the real part and imaginary part is in unit interval. Further, Schweizer–Sklar (SS) operations are more flexible to aggregate the information, and the Muirhead mean (MM) operator can examine the interrelationships among the attributes, and it is more proficient and more generalized than many aggregation operators to cope with awkward and inconsistence information in realistic decision issues. The objectives of this manuscript are to explore the SS operators based on CQROFS and to study their score function, accuracy function, and their relationships. Further, based on these operators, some MM operators based on PFS, called complex q-rung orthopair fuzzy MM (CQROFMM) operator, complex q-rung orthopair fuzzy weighted MM (CQROFWMM) operator, and their special cases are presented. Additionally, the multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) approach is developed by using the explored operators based on CQROFS. Finally, the advantages and comparative analysis are also discussed.

The share of electronic commerce (e-commerce) in total trade is increasing. There are many kinds of services and products within the scope of e-commerce. These products and services are subdivided according to their sales forms and product groups. In this chapter, only the private shopping websites in the online sales group were examined. Private shopping sites are the sites where the members buy certain products with limited stock in limited time. In this chapter, six leading sites are defined as alternatives for the purpose of comparison. When the studies in the literature are examined, it is seen that multi-criteria decision making methods are used in order to sort the special shopping sites by taking into consideration the criteria. Entropy method was used to determine the weights of the criteria under each main topic determined in the study. Moosra method was chosen from multi-criteria decision making methods in order to rank alternative websites. As a result, alternative sites were listed separately and then examined as to whether there was a relationship between these groups.

Low-carbon tourism is an effective solution to cope with the goal conflict between developing tourist economy and responding to carbon emission reduction and ecological environment protection. Tourism scenic spots are important carriers of tourist activities and play a crucial role in low-carbon tourism. There are multiple factors affecting the low-carbon performance of a tourism scenic spot, and thus the performance evaluation and ranking of low-carbon tourism scenic spots can be framed as a hierarchical multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem. This paper develops a novel method to tackle hierarchical MCDM problems, in which the importance preferences of criteria over the decision goal and sub-criteria with respect to the upper-level criterion are provided by linguistic-term-based pairwise comparisons and the assessments of alternatives over each of sub-criteria at the lowest level are furnished by positive interval values. The linguistic-term-based pairwise comparison matrices are converted into intuitionistic fuzzy preference relations and an approach is developed to obtain the global importance weights of the lowest level sub-criteria. A multiplicatively normalized intuitionistic fuzzy decision matrix is established from the interval-value-based assessments of alternatives and a method is proposed to determine the intuitionistic fuzzy value based comprehensive scores of alternatives. A case study is offered to illustrate how to build a performance evaluation index system of low-carbon tourism scenic spots located at Zhejiang Province of China and show the use of the proposed intuitionistic fuzzy hierarchical MCDM method.

Flood control operation in a multi-reservoir system is a multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem, in which the considered criteria are often correlated with each other. In this paper, we propose an MCDM model for reservoir flood control operation to deal with correlation among criteria. Considering the flood control safety of reservoirs and downstream protected regions, we establish the hierarchical structure of the criterion system. We use the principal component analysis method to eliminate the correlation, and transform the original criterion system into an independent comprehensive criterion system. The comprehensive decision matrix coupled with the weight vector obtained by the improved entropy weight method serves as the input to TOPSIS method, fuzzy optimum method, and fuzzy matter-element method, by which we determine the ranking order of the alternatives. We apply the proposed model to a cascade system of reservoirs at the Daduhe River basin in China. The results show that the dimensionality of the criterion system is reduced and the correlation among criteria is eliminated simultaneously, and the ranking order of the alternatives is reasonable. The proposed model provides an effective way to deal with correlation among criteria, and can be extended to wider applications in many other MCDM problems.

Different spheres of application of TOPSIS methods are considered by the author based on the literature review. The characteristics of TOPSIS methods for the selection of electricity supplier in Ukrainian energy market, which was launched in 2019, are studied in the article. The proposed methodological approach could be used by the enterprises, which consume electricity, buying it from suppliers on the energy market. The general problem statement for multi-criteria optimization in order to evaluate electricity suppliers is formulated by the author. The main stages of the TOPSIS method procedure are considered in the article, among which are identification of decision matrix, normalization of decision matrix, calculation of weighted normalized decision matrix, identification of “ideal” and “ideal-negative” expected state, distances calculation and calculation of related proximity to the “ideal” state. According to the obtained indicator of proximity the ranking of the researched objects should be conducted. It is highlighted in the article that the cost factor does not have significant influence in the process of the electricity supplier selection. The indicators, according to which the assessment of electricity suppliers is carried out, are given. The author proposes to use the indicators of enterprises’ efficiency, business activity, solvency, as well as financial results and profitability. Among these indicators the author identifies stimulators and destimulators, the maximization or minimization of which serve as criteria for managerial decision-making. The weights of the criteria are identified using the entropy method, which gives objective results comparing to the methods, which use experts’ opinions. The application of the proposed methodological approach is carried out in the article on the example of 43 enterprises. The obtained indicator of relative proximity to the ideal object allowed ranking the researched enterprises. The best and the worst alternative of electricity suppliers are identified, which could be used in the process managerial decision-making.

In this work, a numerical model was developed to analyze the performance and emissions of a marine diesel engine, the Wärtsilä 6L 46. This model was validated using experimental measurements and was employed to analyze several pre-injection parameters such as pre-injection rate, duration, and starting instant. The modification of these parameters may lead to opposite effects on consumption and/or emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrocarbons (HC). According to this, the main goal of the present work is to employ a multiple-criteria decision-making (MCDM) approach to characterize the most appropriate injection pattern. Since determining the criteria weights significantly influences the overall result of a MCDM problem, a subjective weighting method was compared with four objective weighting methods: entropy, CRITIC (CRiteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation), variance, and standard deviation. The results showed the importance of subjectivism over objectivism in MCDM analyses. The CRITIC, variance, and standard deviation methods assigned more importance to NOx emissions and provided similar results. Nevertheless, the entropy method assigned more importance to consumption and provided a different injection pattern.
