The managing director of a steel plant faces the decision of how much of each raw material to order for the plant for the following month. Due to lower and upper bounds on the amounts of each raw material in a batch and varying amounts of electricity and time consumed for different raw materials, one can't simply use the cheapest raw material. A linear program and the solver optimization function of Excel will provide the optimal amounts that meet the constraints. Interestingly, the best mixture for a batch is not the best mixture for a monthly plan. Shadow prices indicate the value of relaxing constraints. The typical monthly model from a student will be nonlinear, although it can be written as a linear model. This case provides the basis for an introductory class on linear programming and linear versus nonlinear models.

ceramic formula; genetic algorithm; the simplex method; particle swarm optimization Abstract. The composition of ceramic materials determines its performance, so ceramic formula determines the performance of the product. The factors, such as supply of local raw materials, chemical composition, and raw material price, determine the formula. Selecting raw materials from a variety of raw materials which are consistent with the target formula and the percentage content of the chemical composition is a very important job. The chemical composition in the ceramic material is various, and the traditional method is to calculate the formula by hand. The workload is very heavy, and the results are often not accurate, and don’t meet actual requirements. By minimizing the deviation of chemical composition and mineral ingredients, the chemical and comprehensive formula optimization models of ceramic preform body were constructed. Several typical optimization algorithms were used to construct the formula model, such as particle swarm optimization, genetic algorithms and Nelder-Mead simplex method. The experimental results were presented and compared and it concluded that the particle swarm optimization algorithm is superior to the other optimization algorithms.

The article is devoted to the analysis of modern priorities in the sphere of food industry main branches development. The author identified the most promising of them, in particular, modification of socially significant food products (fats) by means of their combination with traditional and non-traditional plant raw materials having full fat oil and low-oil content as a source of physiologically functional nutrients. Chemical composition of raw materials has been studied to reveal the biological value and food safety. The efficiency of using wheat germ flour as an ingredient of vegetable fatty composite mixtures in bread production is established. The author suggested using composites that consist of germinated wheat product, animal fat, creamy melted butter, palm, soybean and sunflower oils which have balanced fatty acids content. The author justified the relevance of heat treatment of composite mixtures having wheat germ flour content up to 30.0% of the mixture mass at 40–50 °C, more than 30% – up to 70°C during 10–15 min. That will help increase its microbiological purity, reduce the enzymatic action of germ lipase, protease and lipoxygenase, extend the mixtures shelf life up to 45 days. Optimum proportion of wheat germ flour should not exceed 70.0% of the raw material mixtures weight. It was demonstrated that 30,0 to 50,0% of solid fats can be replaced with vegetable oils. There was a positive effect of the developed composites in the amount of up to 5.0% to the quantity of flour according to the recipe on the quality of bread produced from the 1st grade wheat flour.

ABSTRACT The production activities of a company are influenced by sufficient availability of raw materials. The availability of raw materials will be fulfilled if the supplier regularly sends raw materials in accordance with the planned delivery time. However, each supplier has different capabilities in terms of supply capacity, price, product quality, and delivery time. Determining the right supplier will help the company maintain its production process. This study aims to identify which suppliers are selected to fulfill the demand for each production period and determine allocation of raw material orders to each selected supplier. The model developed to determine selected suppliers have been an integer linear programming. The model has the objective function of minimizing the total cost which consists of purchasing, ordering and holding costs. The constraints include supplier capacity, order quantity allocation, demand, inventory balance, safety stock, timely delivery, non negative and binary. Calculation results in giving a numerical example shows that the developed model is able to select suppliers per period. The model is also able to determine the allocation of raw material orders to selected suppliers. Sensitivity analysis is done to find out which parameters are sensitive. The results of the sensitivity analysis indicate that the parameters of supplier capacity and demand are sensitive parameters.  Keywords: Supplier selection, order quantity allocation, integer linear programming

The In the current era of globalization, the economic situation in Indonesia is indeed very concerning. With these conditions, many micro businesses, especially home industry businesses, have to struggle to continue carrying out product activities so that their production businesses develop. CV.Indoshoten is a small-scale company producing four main products, namely onigiri salmon flake, spicy tuna onigiri, salmon mayo onigiri and tuna mayonnaise onigiri. To maintain the continuity and development of production, steps are needed to be able to allocate raw materials and increase profits. Therefore we need an effort to use a method in determining the right combination of use of the production factors of the products made and the combination of the products produced using the linear programming model of maximization problems with the simplex method and for analysis using the solver method. The results of this study that the salmon-filled onigiri product will get a maximum profit of Rp.875,000 if the company produces 125 pieces of salmon flake onigiri and 25 pieces of salmon mayo while the tuna-filled onigiri product will get a maximum profit of Rp.626,692 if the company produces spicy tuna onigiri. 40 pcs and 107 pcs of tuna mayo. If a company has a lot of inputs that must be used for the production process and the main purpose of obtaining profits that can be used is the simplex method, whereas if the user wants to analyze variable changes so that profits remain optimal then use the solver method.

The effect of apple raw material (powder from apple pomace and frozen apple pomace) on the duration of individual operations of the technological process of the straight method of wheat bread production, such as the kneading duration, the number of punchings, the duration of the dough fermentation and dough pieces proofing, was investigated in the work. As studies showed, when using secondary apple raw materials in wheat bread production, the amount of yeast must be increased to 3-4%, compared to 1-2% introduced to the control sample. When kneading the dough, apple pomace powder is mixed with dry ingredients according to the developed recipes. When preparing the dough, freshly frozen apple pomace must first be soaked in a mixture of vegetable oil and warm water (water temperature is 28-30 ?) with constant stirring and bringing to a homogeneous consistency and the pomace complete defrosting. The degree of influence of products from the secondary apple raw materials on the technological process and bread quality depend on the type and quantity of the product added to the dough (apple powder or frozen apple pomace is used). The amount of water was also increased by replacing part of the premium wheat flour with buckwheat flour and apple pomace powder. While using fresh frozen apple pomace, the amount of water was reduced, the other ingredients in the recipe were not changed. The additives put to the recipe stimulate the dough fermentation process and reduce it. At the same time, the duration of the dough maturation and the proofing operations are reduced. The addition of fresh frozen apple pomace improves the porosity and taste of bread to a greater extent..
