In this chapter, we report the results of a study comparing current student’s perceptions of computer information systems with student’s perceptions of 12 years past. We found that students continue to prefer more interaction than they perceive an IS career to provide. Given this we (1) report on some programs available in high schools to interest students in a CIS career and (2) discuss case or problem-based learning as a means to provide students with the interaction they desire and show them that it is an integral part of a CIS career.

Problem-based learning (PBL) is a learning method based on the process between learning material to real life problems. The method has been widely applied and shown positive results on different subjects and education levels. In this paper, we discuss the application of PBL in mathematics education on several high schools in South East Asia countries, which include Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam, considering that all of the countries had close cultural and geographical aspects. Researches on the application of PBL showed overall positive results to the high school mathematics education in all of the observed countries, with similar and distinctive objective and outcomes were found. In Indonesia, the application of PBL in mathematics education improve student’s learning activities aside from its positive contribution to the learning outcomes, while in Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, PBL contributes to the improvement of students’ higher-order thinking skills.

The aim of this study is to investigate the enhancement of the students’ mathematical creative thinking ability in two classes whereby in one class, the students learning through problem-basedlearning “what’s another way” and in another class, the students learning through discovery learning. The population of the study were all seven grade students in a junior high schools in Pekalongan regency. The sampling technique used purposive sampling and involved two classes as samples. The data were gathered by employing three research instruments such as mathematics creative thinking ability test, teaching materials, and observation sheet. The results of the study indicated that there was no significance difference in the enchancement between student who recieved WAW and student who recieve discovery learing. Keywords: Problem-Based Learning “What’s Another Way”, Discovery Learning, and Mathematics Creative Thinking Ability

This study aimed to improve students’ mathematics understanding through Problem-Based Learning. The subjects were Year 8 students in one of the junior high schools in Sigli, Indonesia. The main instrument used in this study was a mathematical understanding test, while the supporting instrument was the observation sheets of student and teacher activities. The data were analyzed qualitatively and described descriptively. The results showed that students' mathematics understanding reached the classical mastery learning of 62.50% and 75.00% for the cycle I and II, respectively. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the ability of mathematics understanding enhanced through the Problem-Based and Learning model.   Keywords: Problem-Based Learning, Mathematics Understanding, Junior High Schools.

ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study is to develop problem-based learning-oriented worksheets for students of class XI science high school that are valid and practical. The development model used in this research is 4-D models consisting of define, design, develop and disseminate stages. Research is limited to the develop stage. The subjects in this study were students of class XI science at one of the senior high schools in Batusangkar. The results of the validity test show that the problem-based learning-oriented worksheets are very valid, namely 85.33% in terms of the feasibility aspects of content, language and images, presentation and graphics. The practicality value by educators and students shows that this problem-based learning-oriented LKPD has very practical criteria, namely 87.49% in terms of the ease of use of the LKPD, the time required to fill out the LKPD, easy to interpret by students and has the same equivalence for students. Keywords: LKPD, practicality, problem based learning, validityABSTRAK Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengembangkan LKPD berorientasi  problem based learning untuk peserta didik kelas XI IPA SMA yang valid dan praktis. Kata kunci: LKPD, praktikalitas, problem based learning, validitas
