Academic-related stressors are common for college students, such as future career decisions or pressures to succeed academically. Furthermore, the impact of health and finance issues may add to the burden. Perceived support from an academic community, peers, or family can provide a buffer to mitigate the effects of these stressors. Several studies emphasized the importance of support by instructors in particular and found that students’ perceptions of instructor support can counteract academic stress and promote retention. The purpose of the present study was to validate a scale for instructor support, which consisted of four factors: autonomy, expectation, interpersonal relationships, and engagement. A confirmatory factor analysis demonstrated good fit for the items within each factor. Results also indicated that students who planned to return to the university next semester were more likely to report higher levels of autonomy and expectation. The Scale of Perceived Instructor Support (SPIS) is a short, 24 item-inventory that can be used by faculty advisors as part of a formal advising practice or informally by class instructors.

Based on the results of a practical survey of 185 students who are attending any courses at the University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, the study assesses the impact of stress factors on students. The thesis focuses on clarifying the concept of "stress" and the stress level of students, while pointing out its negative effects on students. This study includes two cross-sectional questionnaire surveys. The first survey uses a set of 16 questions to assess students’ perceptions and attitudes based on an instrument to measure academic stress - Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents (ESSA). The second survey aims to test internal consistency, the robustness of the previously established 7-factor structure. Henceforth, the model was brought back and used qualitatively, combined with Cronbach’s Alpha measurement test and EFA discovery factor analysis. This study was conducted from October 2019 to December 2019. From these practical analyzes, several proposals were made for the society, the school and the students themselves.

Along with the frequent social conflicts in Indonesia, the multicultural reality of this country is becoming increasingly urgent to be reconstructed so that it can become an "integrating force" for the future of this nation, especially through the education sector. In that context, Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Nahdlatul Ulama (MINU) Bangil Pasuruan, East Java, is a "lantern" for Indonesia's future multiculturalism that has implemented multicultural education management well. It involves various religious and ethnic cultural organizations, such as NU, Muhammadiyah, and others. Also, there are several ethnic groups like Javanese, Sundanese, Madurese, and Chinese. This qualitative research with a phenomenological approach-case study attempts to analyze the implementation of multicultural education management to develop conflict resolution learning at MINU Bangil Pasuruan. This research shows that the application of multicultural education management is running well with the main learning models based on visiting culture class learning. Meanwhile, the impact of multicultural education management includes 1) the life and interpersonal relationships of the entire academic community and the environment of educational institutions becoming more harmonious and inclusive, despite the ethnic plurality in the community; and 2) the learning process becomes more enjoyable and effective because it is supported by the growing sense of belonging and love between teachers and students.

The aim of the article is to study the impact of the ideas of modern liberalism put forward by the scholars and lecturers of the University of Lithuania, which was established in Kaunas in 1922, in developing the educational voice of the intelligentsia in the society. The study looks into archival and other published sources on the democratic sociocultural environment set up at the University of Lithuania, analyses the impact of the ideas of cultural liberalism expressed by scholars in organising the training and cultural education of the population. The article uses the documents related to the pedagogical and cultural performance of the university operating in Kaunas, personal collections, minutes of meetings of organisations established by intellectuals, official letters and other correspondence, and periodicals. The sources employed in this work tell about the significant organisational and scientific contribution of researchers not only to organising the studies in Kaunas but also to mobilising a qualified, socially active, and democratic academic community. The contribution of the university professors from different fields of science and their value-based approach were of great importance in the development of the sociocultural life of the university. Vaclovas Biržiška, Petras Leonas, Albinas Rimka, and other intellectuals based their theoretical ideas and public actions on democracy, social solidarity, tolerance, other principles of social progress, and the recognition of the value and rights of every person. The ideas of democracy, the development of an educated personality and a modern society were the spiritual basis of many intellectuals’ educational activities in society right from the founding of the University of Lithuania, even though only some of them consistently favoured the doctrines of modern liberalism. Professors from Kaunas University sought to apply scientific knowledge and disseminate their experience by organizing direct training for adults at different levels of education and from different social strata. They established public adult education institutions. The scholars of Kaunas did not limit themselves to the education of the residents of their city, promotion of their educational interests, and development of their cultural horizons. Together with other intellectuals, authors of literary and artistic works, publicists and educators who promoted democratic position, they took part in the work of the Lithuanian Cultural Union, which had been functioning since 1924. This union brought together several dozens of public organisations and companies and cooperated with publishers of liberal cultural magazines.

This study aimed to explore the impact of cognitive ability on the understanding of computer programming by students enrolled for a programming course at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. The rationale for this study is provided by the general perception held by the academic community that computer programming is a difficult faculty to master. This assertion is corroborated by reports of high failure rates in computer programming courses at tertiary institutes. A literature review was undertaken to investigate the contribution of other factors on the ability to achieve competence in computer programmer. Based on the outcome of the literature review, this study argues that cognitive ability warrants a higher priority relative to the other factors. As a strategy, cognitive science theory was consulted to establish a framework to quantify competency in computer programming. On the basis of this endeavour, two protocols were identified to facilitate the quantification process. The first was the “deep and surface” protocol used in previous studies to ascertain students’ cognitive style of understanding for computer programming. The second was an error analysis framework which was developed as part of the current study. These protocols were used as frameworks to underpin the data collection phase of the study. This study found that at least 50% of the students enrolled in a computer programming course adopt a superficial approach to the understanding of computer programming. In order to explain this phenomenon, a cognitive ability test was administered. Here it was established that at least 39% of these students have not reached a level of cognitive development that will enable the invocation of abstract thought. The study also found that this inability to handle abstractionism, an essential requirement for success in computer programming, is reflected in the severity of errors made in computer programming assessment tasks.
