Glass ceiling is an important issue in the developed world, but there are few studies on the developing world, especially on the private sector of Bangladesh. Therefore, this study aims to determine the influences of the factors of glass ceiling on the job satisfaction and job switching decisions among the female employees in the private sector of Bangladesh. This study conducted structured questionnaire surveys on 192 female employees from two private sector industries – banking and telecommunication in Bangladesh. The data were collected in December 2013 by using random sampling technique. The study used Ordered Logit and Binary Logit regressions. The study found that women employees working in banking sector hold more job satisfaction than those of telecommunication sector. Further, the study found that glass ceiling related variables has no significant relationship with the job satisfaction of women employees but there are several glass ceiling factors that statistically significantly influence on the decisions of changing or switching the existing jobs of women employees. Those who feel they are discriminated by any male colleague or being discriminated to move to higher level management positions or discriminated for promotions or holding less job security are likely to change their existing jobs. To improve the situation, several initiatives need to be taken in the organization like awareness building, standard and ethical human resource practices, strict policies for discriminatory attitudes and behavior etc.

Human Resources Management literature regards training as the blood stream of any organization because the success of an organisation to achieve its objectives and goals heavily highly depends on its workforce. For this reason, organizations should invest in employees’ training in an effort to enhance their performance and that of an organisation. Nonetheless, some organizations regard training as unnecessary expenditure and always cut training budgets in an effort to improve their financial standing to the detriment of their employees’ welfare because that action incapacitate staff to adapt to the ever-changing working environment and uncertain conditions on account of, inter alia, rapid technological innovation and organizational change. This study employed stratified sampling technique to draw a sample of 171 employees from a population of 300 employees through self-administered questionnaire to examine the impact of training on employees’ performance, employee’s motivation and job-satisfaction in the banking sector in Lesotho. The findings of the study generally revealed that training not only increases employees’ performance but also positively affects employees’ motivation and job satisfaction within the banking sector in Lesotho. Therefore, the banking sector in Lesotho should regularly allocate resources for employees’ training based on identified skill gaps to sharpen employees’ skills, knowledge and abilities in order to capacitate them to cope with the ever-changing working environment and uncertain conditions and to improve their motivation and job-satisfaction.

The results revealed that there was an association between the gender of the faculty member and the designation. Further, the factors "Perceived discrimination" (β = .134, p < .01) and "Male dominating culture' (β = .295, p < .001) were found the significantly determined the glass ceiling. In India men and women rights are equal but Women have to work twice as much as men to get recognition, high qualifications alone do not guarantee satisfying careers, as working women carry the double burden of work and family and often face conflicts and stressful situations in their life as well as in their career when family, society, and situations stop their growth then it becomes the form of glass ceiling which heats the back of women and try to stop their growth. The purpose of this study is to clear the image that how glass ceiling heating women and become an obstacle to their carrier path. The present study is a fair attempt to present the current situation of women in the workplace. In this paper, I have tried to summarize the journey of women who have faced issues like gender inequality, discrimination, social issues, and harassment at the workplace. The population of the study comprises all the female employees working in the private sector of the Delhi NCR region. The sample size for this study is 345 women (banking, education, hospital, organization) from the private sector. To collect the response from the respondent the questionnaire and interview tools are used. With the help of the percentage analysis method demographic data are analyzed and to measure the degree of agreeableness the composite/mean score and standard deviation were calculated. Thus selected mean score implies that respondents favor that particular statement. It has been observed that the Mean score of Statement 1i.e. At the workplace due to sexual harassment by their male colleagues or bosses women prefer to change the job rather than victimizing again and again is highest. Limitations of the study are that it considered only female employees and covered only the Delhi NCR region.
