Image copy detection is an important problem for several applications such as detecting forgery to enforce copyright protection and intellectual property. One of the important problems following copy detection, however, is the assessment of the type of modifications undergone by an original image to form its copies. In this work, we propose a method for quantifying some of these modifications when multiple copies of the same image are available. We also propose an algorithm to estimate temporal precedence between images (i.e., the order of creation of the copies). Using the estimated relations, a tree graph is then built to visualise the history of evolution of the original image into its copies. Our work is important for ensuring better interpretation of image copies after their detection. It also lays a new ground for enhancing image indexing and search on the Web.

Abstract Summary Metastases cause a vast majority of cancer morbidity and mortality. Metastatic clones are formed by dispersal of cancer cells to secondary tissues, and are not medically detected or visible until later stages of cancer development. Clone phylogenies within patients provide a means of tracing the otherwise inaccessible dynamic history of migrations of cancer cells. Here, we present a new Bayesian approach, PathFinder, for reconstructing the routes of cancer cell migrations. PathFinder uses the clone phylogeny, the number of mutational differences among clones, and the information on the presence and absence of observed clones in primary and metastatic tumors. By analyzing simulated datasets, we found that PathFinder performes well in reconstructing clone migrations from the primary tumor to new metastases as well as between metastases. It was more challenging to trace migrations from metastases back to primary tumors. We found that a vast majority of errors can be corrected by sampling more clones per tumor, and by increasing the number of genetic variants assayed per clone. We also identified situations in which phylogenetic approaches alone are not sufficient to reconstruct migration routes. In conclusion, we anticipate that the use of PathFinder will enable a more reliable inference of migration histories and their posterior probabilities, which is required to assess the relative preponderance of seeding of new metastasis by clones from primary tumors and/or existing metastases. Availability and implementation PathFinder is available on the web at https://github.com/SayakaMiura/PathFinder.

Purpose – This paper aims to investigate the possibility of a methodological error made by the concerned scholars and academics of Islamic finance & economics to understand and study the modern framework of financial institutions, where they intend to practice Islamic law of contract. This error has led them to expect something which the institutional modern framework of banks, adopted by Islamic banks (for e.g.), wasn’t designed to accomplish, hence the disappointment. Design/methodology/approach – This study reviews the literature on history of evolution of banking industry and the corresponding ideological and cultural changes in the European society which drove this evolution; this is followed by a conceptual analysis to identify the institutional components inconsistent with ethos of Islamic norms and ethos. Findings – After review of history and evolution of modern banking framework, in the light of Hollingsworth frame of institutional analysis, it is inferred that the said framework was designed for a secular, liberal and capitalist society to efficiently and effectively enhance freedom and accumulate capital and wealth, without much regard for equitable distribution of wealth and economic justice. These goals are very much in contrast with the normative premise of Islamic Economics, which cannot be efficiently used to achieve the related objective. This indicates that framework of banking was narrowly understood by the concerned scholars and academics, without considering its history of evolution and intended objectives, before adopting for IBs. Practical implications – The disconnect between the Western institutional framework and ethos of Islam implies that the concerned need to look deeper and holistically while adapting Western institutions, so that necessary alteration is done in advance, if such an adoption is inevitable. Originality/value – This study introduces a new dimension for the concerned scholars, academics and practitioners to reanalyze the institutional framework adopted from the West, so that necessary adjustments can be worked out to make the said framework compatible with the ethos of Islamic economics.

Introductory biology for nonmajors provides an opportunity to engage students with the complexity of life. In these courses, instructors also have the opportunity to experiment with course material and delivery, especially with an intent to overcome common misconceptions about biology. Fortunately, frameworks exist that can be integrated into a completely novel classroom framework: the AP biology curriculum and the tree of life. In addition, assessments are available that specifically address common misconceptions. I tested whether such a novel approach, covering the four big ideas in biology equally and structured around an accurate depiction of biodiversity as a branching history of evolution, can improve student comprehension of difficult biological concepts. In the end, I found that students improved significantly in their understanding of biology and were much less likely to have common misconceptions about difficult topics.

The development of information technology also developed in line with thedevelopment of human civilization. The development of information technology is veryhelpful, one of which is the internet. The use of the internet has developed into anappropriate means to convey information that is fast, effective and accurate. Submissionof information is not limited to all soldiers and the general public by utilizing technologicalfacilities, namely websites. In conveying the history of Indonesia Warship Raden EddyMartadinata 331 and Indonesia Warship I Gusti Ngurah Rai 332 are still stored in the formof documents on a computer and are still printed in the form of sheets of paper. Inconveying the history of Indonesia Warship, it must be developed further to conveyinformation in the current era. Historical research that executive focuses on the past. Sofar, information on the Indonesia Warship Indonesia Warship's historical informationsystem Raden Eddy Martadinata - 331 and Indonesia Warship I Gusti Ngurah Rai - 332on the web-based Indonesian Armed Forces fleet are still in print. besides usinginformation books, then try to make other alternatives by creating a website, besides thatmembers are expected to access information easily and efficiently. With theineffectiveness in managing Indonesia Warship Indonesia Warship historical data RadenEddy Martadinata - 331 and Indonesia Warship I Gusti Ngurah Rai - 332, a design of theIndonesia Warship historical information system was built in the web-based IndonesianArmada fleet which aims to facilitate the process of Indonesia Warship history search.PHP as a programmer and MySQL as the database. Keywords: Website-Based Indonesia Warship History Information System. Summary: Phylogenetic trees are widely used to represent the evolution of gene families. As the history of gene families can be complex (including lots of gene duplications), its visualisation can become a difficult task. A good/accurate visualisation of phylogenetic trees - especially on the web - allows easier understanding and interpretation of trees to help to reveal the mechanisms that shape the evolution of a specific set of gene/species. Here, I present treeWidget, a modular BioJS component to visualise phylogenetic trees on the web. Through its modularity, treeWidget can be easily customized to allow the display of sequence information, e.g. protein domains and alignment conservation patterns.Availability: http://github.com/biojs/biojs; http://dx.doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7707
