86      Product quality has entered the consciousness of organizations with a vengeance. It has become crystal clear that high-quality products have a distinct advantage in the market place, that market share can be gained or lost over the quality issue. Therefore, quality is a competitive priority. Quality is the only factor that ensures an organization's survival and growth. Quality focuses on meeting consumer need, meeting the competition, improving continuously and extending these concerns to all phases of business. Today, it has been well understood by managers that the real price of poor quality is lost consumers and ultimately, the death of an organization. Therefore to be successful in today's business environment ,organizations must pay attention to quality. Hence, a systematic procedure has to be evolved and followed and different concepts of quality management have to be understood clearly for designing and executing the quality management programme effectively.Journal of Nepalese Business Studies Vol. 9, No. 1, 2015 pp. 87-90

One of the main concerns in companies is quality management and its relationship to firm performance. Recently a growing interest in research is the important role of the business environment in the competitive strategy choices of companies. By proposing a conceptual framework for a general model that explains the quality management practices-firm performance link and the business environment-firm performance link, we test the moderating role of competitive strategy in the two links empirically. A survey was conducted of 229 pork-processing firms in the emerging economy of China. We find that specific quality management practices contributing to higher performance include in-company quality management, supplier quality management, employee involvement in quality management and process management, while quality design and customer quality management are not included. Findings also indicate that the business environment (government support in our research) has a positive relationship to firm performance. Competitive strategy only strengthens the relationship between firm performance and quality design, process management, supplier quality management and customer quality management.

Construction practitioners recognise that rework is undesirable due to the detrimental effects. While rework literature has examined rework causation factors in construction projects, the problem continues to plague the industry resulting in poor delivery performance. To better understand this phenomenon and given the scarcity of Malaysian-based rework study, a questionnaire survey involving 130 Malaysian construction practitioners (consultants, contractors and clients) were undertaken to obtain feedback about nature, implications, causes and solutions for rework. Data were analysed using descriptive statistical techniques to prioritise the variables studied. From the analyses, rework is a causal factor for delays and cost overruns, higher wastage and productivity inhibitor. The findings revealed the leading causes of rework are poor quality management, improper planning, lack of communication, design changes and poor subcontractor management. Some practical rework minimisation approaches are also suggested to better manage and prevent rework towards enhanced project performance.

The competitive healthcare system and healthcare environment, modern hospitals with substantial investment, healthcare reforms, availability of specialized persons in hospital management, health services management, the success of quality management programs in developed nations and high interest of international health organizations like WHO has led the developing countries like Pakistan to pay due attention to quality in national healthcare system.  Since the time of independence healthcare system in Pakistan is striving for improvements. Despite of the physical infrastructure and availability of qualified workforce for service delivery there are gaps in strategic and operational planning which resulted in poor quality health services. The leaders in healthcare has little awareness that the quality management is an organized specialty to improve the quality of healthcare. It is need of the hour that healthcare leaders in Pakistan must integrate quality improvement activities in strategic and operational planning process of healthcare system. This the only way to maximize the benefits of healthcare system and restore the rapidly deteriorating public trust.

Eel, Anguilla bicolor bicolor has an economic value for export commodity. Eel farming has been developed both of home to industries scales. However, the main problem during the glass eel culture is the low survival rate, characterized by high mortality. This condition is related to the culture technique that has not been established yet, especially water quality management. The research aims to determine the best water exchange during the culture of the glass eel on the survival, growth, and blood glucose. The different percentages of water exchange as a treatment were followed A) control (without water exchange); B) 20% of water exchange; C) 40% of water exchange; and D) 60% of water exchange. The water exchange has affected the survival, growth, and blood glucose (P<0.05). The ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate values during the culture period showed that the control was higher compared to the others. The water exchange of 40% is suitable for glass eel stage culture to obtain the best survival and growth.

In the current global dynamic and competitive business environment of Industry 4.0, small and medium-sized enterprises face a major challenge of expanding their market activities and adapt to new conditions in order to survive in times of economic or pandemic crisis. The implementation of comprehensive quality management in business environment within EU organizations is a response to this challenge for global competition (Abdul, Sumantoro, & Maria, 2019). Current problem is the fact that the implementation and monitoring of quality management as a process of business management in the majority of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) is not sufficiently used, underestimated, or even considered to be obsolete (Rigby, Bilodeau, 2018). In an enterprise with good financial health and healthy corporate culture, all transactions and processes are carried out properly and the relationships among all stakeholders (employees, suppliers, and customers) are successful. For other companies, it is necessary to take steps to ensure quality and follow them (Fernandes et al., 2017) in order to move towards the concept of Industry 4.0. According to published professional literature, each research worker has developed their own framework for mapping value production operations based on specific needs and interests in the fields under review. However, the relationship between the quality processes and value stream maps has not been adequately addressed in professional literature, especially in the case of small and medium-sized enterprises. Therefore, for achieving the objective of the contribution, the following research questions have been formulated: To which extent quality participates in generating value added within production process? In which production operations does the quality factor contributes most to generating value added? Keywords: Quality value stream map, Value stream map, quality management, added value for the customer.

Gammarusspp. are typically classified as shredders under the functional feeding group classification. In the wild and in the laboratory,Gammarusspp. will often shred leaves, breaking them down into finer organic matter fractions. However, leaf litter is a poor quality food source (i.e., high C : N and C : P ratios) and very little leaf material is assimilated by shredders. In freshwater habitats leaf litter is colonized rapidly (within ∼1-2 weeks) by aquatic fungi and bacteria, making the leaves more palatable and nutritious to consumers. Several studies have shown thatGammarusspp. show preference for conditioned leaves over nonconditioned leaves and certain fungal species to others. Furthermore,Gammarusspp. show increased survival and growth rates when fed conditioned leaves compared to non-conditioned leaves. Thus,Gammarusspp. appear to rely on the microbial biofilm associated with leaf detritus as a source of carbon and/or essential nutrients. Also,Gammarusspp. can have both positive and negative effects on the microbial communities on which they fed, making them an important component of the microbial loop in aquatic ecosystems.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and firm’s reputation in terms of product and service quality, management performance and attractiveness as well as reputation on overall performance from a developing country’s environment. Design/methodology/approach The partial lest squares structural equation modeling was used to study the relationship between CSR and firm’s reputation as well as the overall organizational performance using a survey of informants from Ghana. Findings Using data from firms in Ghana, the study demonstrates that CSR initiative by firms will have a positive relationship with firm’s reputation in terms of product and service quality, management performance and attractiveness as well as overall performance. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that enhanced reputation by firms through social responsibility initiatives will lead to firms’ overall performance from the Ghanaian business environment. Research limitations/implications The main limitation of this work is the source of the data originating from only executives from Ghana where managers are sometimes skeptical giving out such information; this might have some influence on the results. In addition, there could be potential endogeneity and unobserved heterogeneity issues. It is therefore recommended that future studies should consider these issues to check as to whether the same results could be achieved. Specifically, results indicate that when organizations invest in CSR initiatives, they are likely to achieve product quality, improved management performance and an attractiveness as well as overall performance. Practical implications The research shows how CSR initiatives can enhance firm’s reputation and overall performance of a firm. Originality/value The work illustrates and provides some insights and builds on the literature in the area CSR and reputation from a developing country’s environment.
