The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of the glass ceiling (GC) on women’s career development (WCD)in Nepalese commercial banks. One hundred and forty-four women branch managers working in different branches were taken as the sample. The study used a survey questionnaire (17 items) derived from women workplace culture questionnaire (WWC) (Bergman and Hallberg,2002) for measuring glass ceiling, used as an independent variable in the study. Additionally, a career satisfaction questionnaire developed by (Greenhaus, Parasuraman, and Wormley1990) was used to measure WCD (dependent variable). The statistical tools like Pearson correlation and regression analysis were applied to find the result of quantitative data. The result revealed that there is an existence of GC in commercial banks in Nepal and the negative relationship between GC and the WCD along with the impact of the corporate climate on the WCD. Some limitations of the study have been found and implications and recommendation for the future researchers are also discussed.

The core objective of this project is to analyze the impact of interest rates changes on the profitability of commercial banks being operated in Pakistan by examining the financial statements of four major banks during 2008 to 2012. Like the efficiency of banking sector is considered most important for economic growth, monetary policy implementation and macro-economic stability. From the past few years, interest spread of banking sector of Pakistan is rising. As a result variations in the interest rate depress the savings and investment and on the other hand it increases the efficiency of banks’ lending. In this paper interest rate is an independent variable and bank profitability is a dependent variable. To examine the impact of interest rate changes on the profitability of commercial banks in Pakistan, Pearson correlation method is used in this study. As a result it is found that there is strong and positive correlation between interest rate and commercial banks’ profitability. It means if the value of interest rate is increases/decreases then as result value of banks’ profitability will also increases/decreases.

The collected data from the study were analyzed using descriptive statistics, percentages, correlation and regression analysis. The correlation results showed that strategic management practices are highly positively and significantly related to organizational performance. The regression result which explains about 99.9% variability in the model revealed that strategic management had positive and significant impact on the performance and profitability of commercial banks. Ecosystem services are comprehensive and quantitative indicators for describing ecosystem–human interactions. China has experienced rapid urbanization in the past 30 years, which has created a significant impact on regional ecosystem services. However, whether the impact is linear is not clear as yet. In this study, the Jiangsu province, a main body of the Chinese Yangtze River Delta city cluster, was chosen as a case study. Multi-source remotely-sensed geospatial data, including meteorological, land use, vegetation, and socio-economic data, were collected to estimate the total amount of ecosystem services (TESV) and urbanization levels. Subsequently, the relationships between TESV and urbanization indices (i.e., gross domestic product (GDP) per unit area, GPUA; population per unit area, PPUA; and built-up land proportion, BULP) were determined using the Pearson correlation analysis and piecewise linear regression. The primary findings of this study were as follows: (1) There was a distinct spatial pattern in TESV, which gradually increased from west to east with high-value areas located in eastern coastal areas of Jiangsu. Among different land use types, cropland and woodland contributed the most to TESV; (2) The three urbanization indices had spatial patterns, indicating higher urbanization in southern Jiangsu than in central or northern Jiangsu; and (3) Once GPUA and PPUA exceeded threshold values of 3719.55 × 104 yuan/km2 and 744.37 person/km2, respectively, TESV sharply decreased with an increase in these indices. However, the BULP showed a linear and significantly negative relationship with TESV at all values, which indicated that the impacts of economic and population growth on TESV lagged behind that of built-up land expansion. These findings provide a potentially significant reference for decision-makers to rationally enhance regional ecosystem services during rapid urbanization processes.

In Sri Lanka even though women represent more than half of the population, their labour force participation rate is less than men. Men's participation in the labour force is twice as women's. The data were collected from 144 executive level female respondents out of 157 executive level female employees in Financial Sector at Kandy district with a structured questionnaire. For presenting and analysing the data both descriptive and inferential statistics were used through SPSS 19.0 version and the results were derived. The major finding of this study revealed that the glass ceiling and women career development has small negative relationship and individual, family and cultural factors have a significant impact on women career development while organisational factors have an insignificant impact on women career development. Further, in this study Adjusted R2 of women career development is 0646. It is explained that 64.6% of women career development is explained by glass ceiling. The conclusion was finally made that there are significant impact of the glass ceiling on women career development of executive level female employees in the financial sector at Kandy district.

The objective of the present study is to analyse the impact of human resource development on employee engagement in Nepalese commercial banks by taking three human resource development components of training and development, career development and performance management as independent variables, and employee engagement as a dependent variable. Using the random sampling, 384 employees were selected, and a questionnaire survey was carried out to collect data. Using F-test and t-test, the study found that the training and development, career development and performance management have significant impact on employee engagement in Nepalese commercial banks. The study also revealed that male employees have more emphasis on performance management but female employees have more emphasis on training and development. Likewise, the employees up to the officer level have also more emphasis on performance management but the employees below officer level have more emphasis on training and development.

The market structure, conducts and performance of the Indian banking sector have changed since the introduction of banking sector reforms. Slower economic growth, coupled with asset quality problems in recent years, has taken a toll on the overall health of the Indian banking sector. Higher statutory capital requirement under Basel III has posed another major challenge to the Indian banks. The purpose of the study is to examine the impact of structural changes and conduct of Indian commercial banks on their profitability in the paradigm of structure–conduct–performance (SCP) framework. Market concentration, bank-specific/macroeconomic variables have been considered as important determinants of the profitability. The regression results find a negative relationship between profitability and market concentration and reject SCP hypotheses. The study found that capitalization, credit risk, leverage and ownership structure are the most important determinants of the profitability of Indian banks. The study also found that financial crisis had no significant impact on the profitability of Indian banks. JEL Classification: C4, G21, G28, L19

The motivation of the present study is to investigate the association between perceived glass ceiling and career satisfaction among Indian managers. The study examined the impact of glass ceilings at the career satisfaction level of employees mediated by organization identification and organizational trust. The sample for the present study embraces 237 middle level managers representing organizations in Delhi/NCR. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, correlation and regression were used. Results illustrate that a significant and negative relationship is found between glass ceiling and career satisfaction which implies that if employees feel that glass ceiling exists in the organization, their career satisfaction will be less. The results validate that the impact of glass ceiling decreases after introducing the mediating effects of trust and organizational identification on career satisfaction. The subsistence of the glass ceiling in the organizations will indirectly be fortified due to inadequacies in networking, mentoring, flexible working hours and family friendly initiatives. Therefore, modifying the human resource policies and practices and altering the organizational culture and attitudes of executives shall help organizations preserve their extremely able women workforce.
