Nowadays, social networks play a crucial role in human everyday life and no longer purely associated with spare time spending. In fact, instant communication with friends and colleagues has become an essential component of our daily interaction giving a raise of multiple new social network types emergence. By participating in such networks, individuals generate a multitude of data points that describe their activities from different perspectives and, for example, can be further used for applications such as personalized recommendation or user profiling. However, the impact of the different social media networks on machine learning model performance has not been studied comprehensively yet. Particularly, the literature on modeling multi-modal data from multiple social networks is relatively sparse, which had inspired us to take a deeper dive into the topic in this preliminary study. Specifically, in this work, we will study the performance of different machine learning models when being learned on multi-modal data from different social networks. Our initial experimental results reveal that social network choice impacts the performance and the proper selection of data source is crucial.

This chapter focuses on a method, social network analysis (SNA) that can be used to assess the quantity and quality of connection, communication and collaboration mediated by social tools in an organization. An organization, in the Canadian public sector, is used as a real-life case study to illustrate how SNA can be used in a pre-test/post-test evaluation design to conduct a comparative assessment of methods that can be used before, during and after the implementation of organizational change in work processes. The same evaluation method can be used to assess the impact of introducing new social media such as wikis, expertise locator systems, blogs, Twitter and so on. In other words, while traditional pre-test/post-test designs can be easily applied to social media, the social media tools themselves can be added to the assessment toolkit. Social network analysis in particular is a good candidate to analyze the connections between people and content as well as people with other people.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate how four enterprise social media (ESM) affordances (visibility, association, editability and persistence) affect social network ties (instrumental and expressive), which, in turn, influence the in-role and innovative job performance of employees. Design/methodology/approach A survey of 251 ESM users in the workplace in China was conducted. Findings All four affordances are positively associated with instrumental ties, yet only the association and editability affordances are positively related to expressive ties. Although instrumental and expressive ties are positively related to in-role and innovative job performance, instrumental ties exert stronger effects on in-role job performance, whereas expressive ties show stronger effects on innovative job performance. Research limitations/implications First, additional relevant affordances should be included in an expanded model. Second, future research could examine how patterns of affordances use (unrelated, or hierarchically or sequentially related) affect organizational network ties. Third, there are likely (many) other exogenous factors affecting the model’s relationships. Fourth, the data collected are self-reported. Practical implications This study advances the theoretical understanding of the role of ESM affordances in the workplace, especially through their influences on network ties. The findings can guide organizations on how to emphasize ESM affordances to foster instrumental and expressive ties to improve the job performance of employees. Originality/value First, it provides novel views on affordance theory in ESM contexts by empirically testing four central affordances, thereby further providing preliminary evidence for prior theoretical propositions by confirming that social media affordances might be associated with or influence relational ties. Second, the study integrates an affordance lens and a social network perspective to investigate employees’ perceived performance behavior. Including social network ties can offer a more detailed understanding of the underlying processes of how ESM affordances can and do affect job performance. Third, it supports the validity of distinguishing instrumental and expressive ties in ESM contexts, thus offering a possible explanation for the inconsistencies in prior research on the impact of social networks on employee outcomes. Finally, it also shows how two kinds of organizational performance (in-role and innovative) are somewhat differentially influenced by affordances and network ties.

With the continuous enrichment of social network applications, such as TikTok, Weibo, Twitter, and others, social media have become an indispensable part of our lives. Web users can participate in their favorite events or pay attention to people they like. The “heterogeneous” influence between events and users can be effectively modeled, and users’ potential future behaviors can be predicted, so as to facilitate applications such as recommendations and online advertising. For example, a user’s favorite live streaming host (user) recommends certain products (event), can we predict whether the user will buy these products in the future? The majority of studies are based on a homogeneous graph neural network to model the influence between users. However, these studies ignore the impact of events on users in reality. For instance, when users purchase commodities through live streaming channels, in addition to the factors of the host, the commodity is also a key factor that influences the behavior of users. This study designs an influence prediction model based on a heterogeneous neural network HetInf. Specifically, we first constructed the heterogeneous social influence network according to the relationship between event nodes and user nodes, then sampled the user heterogeneous subgraph for each user, extracted the relevant node features, and finally predicted the probability of user behavior through the heterogeneous neural network model. We conducted comprehensive experiments on two large social network datasets. Furthermore, the experimental results show that HetInf is significantly superior to the previous homogeneous neural network methods.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the impact of the type of disclosure used by social media influencers on consumer evaluations of influencer transparency, product performance expectations and how those factors ultimately influence purchase intentions. Design/methodology/approach An experiment was conducted with 321 participants recruited from MTurk to test a moderated serial-mediation model. Findings The results indicate that when consumers become cognizant that an influencer’s branded promotional post may have been motivated by an underlying financial relationship, they evaluate the influencer as significantly less transparent if a more ambiguous disclosure is used relative to a clearer disclosure. Transparency perceptions of the influencer impact consumers’ perceptions of product efficacy as well as purchase intentions. Originality/value Social media influencers are rapidly emerging as a popular marketing tool for brand managers, but consumer response to this form of promotion is not well understood. To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to investigate how the type of endorsement disclosure used by a social media influencer impacts consumer perception of influencer transparency, product efficacy and purchase intentions. Further, this research demonstrates the applicability of the persuasion knowledge model in the domain of influencer marketing.

The Covid-19 pandemic that has hit the whole world has caused economic problems. Household consumption or the purchasing power of the Indonesian people fell very deeply. Whereas consumption or people's purchasing power supports 60% of the Indonesian economy. Therefore, the pattern of marketing is changed by doing marketing online. Companies use  social media influencer to advertise their products. This study was conducted to analyze the impact of social media influencers and brand image on online consumer purchase intentions. The criteria for respondents in this study were women aged 18 years and over who followed Tasya Farasya's Instagram and knew about Maybelline products. Partial Least Square (PLS) is used to analyze the respondent's data that has been collected. The results of this study indicate that social media influencers have no positive and significant effect on online purchase intentions. Meanwhile, brand image has a positive and significant effect on online purchase intentions.

Retail supermarkets in Harare have been finding it difficult to differentiate their store environment based on the traditional components of the retail mix. As such, a quantitative research study was conducted to determine the impact of background music on consumer buying behaviour for retail supermarkets in Harare, Zimbabwe. Specifically, the study sought to determine the effect of playing familiar songs on customer purchase intentions and examine the impact of music tempo on customer purchase intentions in retail supermarkets. The study also intended to determine the effect of music volume on customer purchase intentions in retail supermarkets. Key findings indicated that music volume has a negative effect on customers purchase intentions (r = -0.199; p < 0.05). The study also revealed that music tempo had a negative effect on customer purchase intentions with a coefficient r = -0.208 at 5% level of significance. The findings implied that when music tempo increases customer purchase intentions will equally inversely decrease at the sampled retail supermarkets. Furtherance, findings from the study revealed that familiar music was positively and significantly correlated with consumer purchase intentions with a coefficient r = 0.650 at 5% level of significance. Thus, the supermarkets can use background music as differentiation strategy for enhancing the value of products or services offerings through positive experiences. Indeed, creating pleasant experiences to customers while shopping products or services can help these customers to feel emotionally attached and bonded with the retail supermarkets.

Abstract Based on the social network analysis method, this paper studies the impact of corporate knowledge-sharing in social media, sorts out the relationship between corporate internal social capital, knowledge-sharing, and individual innovation behavior, and explores the reliability of the scale through exploratory factor analysis validity test to ensure the reliability and rationality of the questionnaire, using improved social networks to construct structural equation models and regression analysis to verify the research model and related assumptions, and found that social media tacit knowledge-sharing in structural capital, cognitive capital the intermediary effect in the influence of individual innovation behavior is remarkable. The sharing attitude has a broad intermediary role between the interactive relationship and the willingness to share. There is a partial intermediary role between the reciprocity and the willingness to share, the common language, and the willingness to share, the common vision, and the willingness to share.

This paper summarizes the arguments and counterarguments within the scientific discussion on the issue of employer attractiveness on social networks, organizational image impact upon intentions to apply for a job position in banking industry. The main purpose of the research is to theoretically and empirically evaluate the impact of attractive workplace communications on social networks and image of a bank as an employer upon intentions to apply for a job position. Systematization of literary sources and approaches for solving the research problem indicates that there exist sufficient scientific background to expect a positive impact of workplace attractiveness on the image of employer. Usage of social media is also supposed to have a positive impact on the image, while the image might be a predictor of intentions to apply for a job. The relevance of the decision of this scientific problem is that social media has a huge potential to strengthen employer’s image, however, it also might destroy a carefully formed employer’s image. Such a potential stresses the role of banks’ communications on social network for building efficient employer image. A questionnaire research of students is carried out in Lithuania. The paper presents the results of an empirical analysis, which showed that job seekers in a labour market behave similarly to consumers in a marketplace. Banks should put efforts in order to present themselves as attractive working places on social networks in order to form a favourable employer’s image and encourage job seekers to apply for positions. Results of this study indicate that usage of social networks for the formation of image of employer can be a helpful tool. This is important because there are clear links between workplace attractiveness, usage of social networks and image of an employer. The latter construct is positively related to intentions to apply for a job. The results of the research can be useful for commercial banks. This study provides banks with useful insights of the factors that determine their image in labour market. Such insights give banks a perceptible information of how to become more attractive in labour market with the help of communications on social networks.
