In this paper, the authors presented some research results on the various surface morphologies of polyaniline (PANi) film, directly synthesised on Pt/SiO2interdigitated microelectrode area by electrochemical method. Theoutcomes of surface morphology and chemical composition structure analysis of PANi film were studied by Field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR), respectively. The PANi film was fabricated with the nanowires (NWs) form with their diameter from 50÷100 nm. The length of several micrometers depends on aniline concentration and synthesis condition. The obtained consequences demonstrated that the PANi - NWs are fully potential objects for the detection of NH3gas at room temperature.

The advent of techniques for scanning electron microscopy stimulated the study of the surface of the gastric mucosa because of better visualization of the surface morphology. Scanning electron microscopy has been used recently in studies of the surface morphology of the gastric mucosa of the rat, the ferret and man, and the guineapig. Information is not available on the gastric mucosa of the cat. However, large numbers of cats are brought to veterinary clinics for stomach disorders. Knowledge of the normal morphology of the gastric mucosa is necessary for more accurate morphological diagnosis of gastric disorders. Four preconditioned cats were used in this investigation. Each cat was euthanatized by I/V injection of 3 ml of T-62 solution. The stomach was removed, opened along the greater curvature and rinsed repeatedly with saline. The stomach was pinned on a paraffin tray with the mucosa up. It was fixed in 5% glutaraldehyde in phosphate buffered pH 7.4 (0.15 M) at room temperature.

The intestinal roundworm of swine is pinkish in color and about the diameter of a lead pencil. Adult worms, taken from parasitized swine, frequently were observed with macroscopic lesions on their cuticule. Those possessing such lesions were rinsed in distilled water, and cylindrical segments of the affected areas were removed. Some of the segments were fixed in buffered formalin before freeze-drying; others were freeze-dried immediately. Initially, specimens were quenched in liquid freon followed by immersion in liquid nitrogen. They were then placed in ampuoles in a freezer at −45C and sublimated by vacuum until dry. After the specimens appeared dry, the freezer was allowed to come to room temperature slowly while the vacuum was maintained. The dried specimens were attached to metal pegs with conductive silver paint and placed in a vacuum evaporator on a rotating tilting stage. They were then coated by evaporating an alloy of 20% palladium and 80% gold to a thickness of approximately 300 A°. The specimens were examined by secondary electron emmission in a scanning electron microscope.

Germination of Euonymous americanus in the laboratory has previously been unsuccessful. Ability to germinate Euonymous americanus. commonly known as the american strawberry bush, is important in that it represents a valuable food source for the white-tailed deer. Utilizing the knowledge that its seeds spend a period of time in the rumin fluid of deer during their dormant stage, we were successful in initiating germination. After a three month drying period, the seeds were placed in 25 ml of buffered rumin fluid, pH 8 at 40°C for 48 hrs anaerobically. They were then allowed to dry at room temperature for 24 hrs, placed on moistened filter paper and enclosed within an environmental chamber. Approximately four weeks later germination was detected and verified by scanning electron microscopy; light microscopy provided inadequate resolution. An important point to note in this procedure is that scarification, which was thought to be vital for germination, proved to be unnecessary for successful germination to occur. It is believed that germination was propagated by the secretion of enzymes or prescence of acids produced by microorganisms found in the rumin fluid since sterilized rumin failed to bring about germination.

A novel and inexpensive bucky gel electrode has been investigated for use as the electrode substrate for deposition of polypyrrole. The electroactive polymer membrane was successfully deposited and the surface morphology studied using scanning electron microscopy. Given the properties of the bucky gel electrode and its ability to conduct ions, this work establishes the first step towards a semi-solid ion-gating system to be used in further applications.

In this work, we report on the observation of Nd1Ba6Cu3O10,5 (Nd163) phase of the NdBaCuO system in melt-textured Nd123 bulk samples grown from a mixture of Nd123 and Nd210 phase powders. The observation was performed with polarized light optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy–energy dispersive x-ray analyses. Images of the identified phase crystals show an aspect quite different from Nd422 crystals. Unexpectedly, Nd163 was individuated, even in “pure” Nd123 samples. Moreover, after long exposure to air, Nd163 disappeared completely in samples synthesized from powders containing Nd210. Thermogravimetry analyses of powders show that the stability of this phase in air is limited to temperatures higher than 900 °C, so Nd163 is unstable and highly reactive at room temperature. Moreover, an explanation of the observation of Nd163 in Nd210 free samples, based on the spontaneous formation of Nd163 phase in a Nd123 melt, is proposed.

The polycrystalline skutterudite [Formula: see text] were successfully synthesized from 1.5 GPa to 3.5 GPa by the high pressure and high temperature (HPHT) method. Negative Seebeck coefficient confirmed the n-type conductivity of all samples. The phase compositions of samples were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the microstructures were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). It was found that the grains appeared smaller and the grain boundaries became more abundant when pressures were higher. We measured the electrical properties from room temperature to 723 K. Both the electrical resistivity and absolute value of Seebeck coefficient increase with the increasing synthetic pressure. At 723 K, the maximum power factor of [Formula: see text] was obtained for the sample synthesized under 3 GPa. The maximum ZT value of 0.61 was reached by [Formula: see text] synthesized under 3 GPa and measured at 723 K.

Abstract Terbium oxide (Tb2O3) particles (NPs) were synthesized by precipitation method using ammonium carbonate as precipitation agent. Effects of precursor molarity (0.1, 0.15 and 0.2 M) on photoluminescence (PL) behaviour of the NPs were investigated. The presence of the Tb2O3 phase was confirmed by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) analyses. Morphological investigations of the produced powders were made by Field Emission Gun-Scanning Electron Microscopy (FEG-SEM). It showed that the morphology of Tb2O3 particles transformed from the nanograin chain to bundles morphology of rod-like as the amount of precursor molarity increased. Emission spectrum were investigated by Photoluminescence (PL) Spectroscopy. All the Tb2O3 particles exhibited the strongest peak at 493 nm ascribed to 5D4-7F6 (magnetic dipole (MD), C2) transition. The increase in the number of C2 sites released from the MD transition with the increase of the precursor molarity caused a negative increase in the b* (yellowness/blueness of the emission) value in the CIE diagram, indicating that the colour shifted to the blue region. The Tb2O3 particles produced by the precipitation method exhibited novel strong cyan colour and the PL emission intensity increased with increasing molarity.
