The problems of the study mainly focuses on the types of translation technique, translation method and translation ideology found in the novel. The aims of this research are to find out the types of translation technique, translation method and translation ideology applied in both novels. The data are presented and explained based on theoretical framework. The data were taken from a novel written by Sandra Brown. The data were collected through documentation and observation. This study used descriptive qualitative method and applied the theory proposed by Molina and Albir (2002) to classify the types of translation technique, the theory proposed by Newmark (1988) to describe the types of translation method and the theory proposed by Hatim (2001) to find the ideology applied in the translated novel. Among twelve translation techniques, there are only five types of translation techniques found in the data of the novel namely variation, adaptation, description, deletion, and generalization. Based on the types of translation technique found, all of them are oriented towards the target language. Thus, the method used in the translated novel is communicative method which is oriented towards to the target language. Based on translation technique and method, it is concluded that the translated novel has a tendency to domestication ideology which is target language oriented.

This is a linguistic research of translation which presents an analysis of explicitation in the novel entitled Pembunuhan di Malam Natal which is the Indonesian translation of Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot’s Christmas. The purposes of this research are: (1) to find out what types of explicitation occurred in the novel Pembunuhan di Malam Natal and (2) to find out what the reasons of the explicitations. The method used in this researcher is a qualitative method through library research. The researcher takes the first 50 data of explicitation found in the translation and analyzes them using the concept of explicitation by Murtisari (2013) which is based on the Relevance Theory. In identifying the reasons of explicitation, the researcher uses the theory by Larson (1984). The results of this research show that the types of explicitation found in the novel Pembunuhan di Malam Natal are scalar and categorical explicitation. Whereas, the reasons of explicitation identified are the necessity for correct and clear expression of the source meaning, the needed for naturalness of style or to create the same emotive effect as the source text, and to explicate the truly implicit information in the source text. There is no explicitation due to the requirement for the grammar of the target language is because of the fact that English language has more specific grammar rule, i.e., tenses than Indonesian language’s rule. Thus it can be concluded that what occurs in case of grammar between the source text and the target text is instead implicitation, not explicitation.

The form of a phrasal verb may be the same but they bear different meanings in accordance with the context of situation. The dynamics of language also influence the change of phrasal verb meanings. This paper presents the problems faced by the translator in translating several phrasal verbs in the novel Thirteen Reasons Why by applying the theory of Ghazala in which it is stated that phrasal verbs are linked with the lexical problems and stylistics. Lexical problems coccur when a word, a phrase or an expression is not understood clearly and directly, misunderstood, not known at all to translators, or not found in standard dictionaries, while stylistic problems, righty seen as a part of meaning strongly affect  the style of source language posing problems for the translator as the styles of the ST and TT could not  be easily adjusted to similarity.  The data in the forms of phrasal verbs are taken from the source language and in the target language, supported by the descriptive qualitative method. The results of show that the problems in translating the phrasal verbs in the novel lie in lexical words (literal meaning, synonymy, polysemy, and idiom) and stylistics (formality and informality of language)
