The article presents an application of Elizabeth Grosz’s corporeal feminism to the interpretation of Język korzyści by Kira Pietrek. The emphasis is put on how the subjectivity and fleshliness of poetic characters are constructed. The key issues of the feminist identity discourse focus on redefining the categories of subject and flesh as well as going beyond the mind-body and subject-object oppositions. Pietrek uses and, at the same time, exposes and ridicules schemes and clichés to reconstruct patriarchal reality. Research problems concern insufficient characterization of the subject’s “materiality”, which is connected with the adoption of solutions that go beyond Grosz’s theoretical considerations.

ABSTRACTCurrent hot isostatic consolidation methodology used for the fabrication of complex-shaped Si3N4-based components requires the use of an expensive glass encapsulation technique and extended thermal exposure (in hours) of the specimen. An alternative consolidation approach involving the use of solid pressure transmitting media under high pressure, has enabled the consolidation of Si3N4 alloys without the need for glass encapsulation.Characterization of microstructures and mechanical properties of this (MOR, fracture toughness) material has been carried out and will be presented. It has been noted that in Si 3N4/8%Y2O3-4%Al2O3 composition, consolidated using this approach, a significantly larger volume fraction of α phase has been retained compared with typically observed conversion in α⇒ β in hot isostatically pressed material or sintered material.Key issues for addressing densification and microstructure control using this process are presented. This rapid consolidation approach appears to be a promising alternative to hot isostatic pressing for the fabrication of complex-shaped Si3N4 components.

In recent decades, a major problem for health systems around the world is the wide spread of bacterial pathogens that are resistant to various antimicrobial agents. A possible approach to solving this problem is the use of bacteriophages, viruses that specifically infect bacterial cells, as well as enzymes and proteins encoded in their genomes. The development of genomic editing technologies, including those based on CRISPR-Cas editing, makes it possible to create genetically engineered or recombinant phage particles with desired properties that are important for further practical application. In this review, we consider issues related to the characterization of bacteriophages as biological objects and as promising candidates for controlling the spread of antibioticresistant bacterial strains. We discuss modern approaches and strategies for modifying the phage genomes using various methods of genetic engineering and molecular biology to solve a variety of practical and research problems. Informed by a review of recent attempts in cognitive science to overcome head-bound conceptions of the mind, this chapter investigates the contribution of ‘situated’ approaches to understanding music and consciousness, focusing on musical experience. It develops a systematic framework for discriminating between situated approaches, and based on this framework and an analysis of specific scenarios discusses the ways in which musical experience may be conceptualized as ‘situated’, elucidating the implications and explanatory potential of different approaches. Finally, there is a consideration of the framework’s value as a research tool for the analysis of situated aspects of musical practices. The aim is to advance an understanding of music and consciousness by contributing to conceptual clarity and by enriching the relationship between theoretical considerations and observation of musical practice.

This chapter examines how the Member States have addressed most of the key issues and controversies arising from the transposition of the Antitrust Damages Directive within their respective legal systems. It first considers the substantive grounds and conditions for liability, highlighting several legal debates that are likely to arise in the context of liability, such as those relating to fault, the characterization of the type of liability in question and the consequences thereof, and the liability of the parent company. It then discusses joint liability, particularly the liability of immunity recipients and of small to medium-size enterprises, and issues concerning access to evidence, specialized courts that would hear antitrust damages actions, limitation periods, the binding force of public enforcement decisions, the right to full compensation, quantification of harm, passing-on, consensual dispute resolution (settlements and alternative dispute resolution), and collective redress.

The extensive literature on research co-creation is mostly based on problems being treated as clearly defined and solvable. What is the impact on co-creation when problems are complex, with the following characteristics: difficult to delimit, contested definitions, multiple uncertainties and unresolvable unknowns, constraints on what can be done, and no perfect solution? Co-creation on such problems requires a research mindset that appreciates that stakeholders have an essential role in making complexity evident and that limiting stakeholder involvement also limits the ability to understand and effectively act on complex problems. The Integration and Implementation Sciences (i2S) framework is introduced as a way to systematically take into account multiple stakeholders with multiple relevant inputs. In addition, one specific tool, the research-relevant modified International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) spectrum, is described as a way of exploring stakeholder engagement. For complex problems this modified spectrum can be used to describe different ways of including stakeholders, to reflect on appropriate forms of engagement, as well as to take into account both level of researcher control and different categories of stakeholder groups. A research programme examining the feasibility of prescribing pharmaceutical heroin as a treatment for heroin dependence stimulated thinking about co-creation on complex problems and is used as a practice example to illustrate the points covered.

As the offshore industry moves towards deeper water developments and continues to embrace harsh environments, unbonded flexible pipes are increasingly being utilized as a cost effective riser solution. Furthermore, with the advent of issues such as nonpristine annuli environments, the fatigue performance of these flexible risers is becoming a critical issue. This paper presents an overview of the comparisons between deterministic and stochastic global fatigue analysis techniques. Methods used to perform both deterministic and stochastic analyses are outlined, from performing the global analyses to using local models to generate armor wire stresses and subsequent fatigue damage. The paper identifies the key issues in the analysis performed and presents key results and conclusions with regard to the characterization of the wave environment in the global fatigue analysis of flexible risers.

To effectively control the dispensing process by which fluids are delivered onto substrates in electronics packaging, one of the key issues is to understand and characterize the flow behavior of the fluids being dispensed. However, this task has proven to be a demanding one as the fluids used for electronics packaging usually exhibit the time-dependent rheological behavior, which has not been well documented in the literature. In this paper, the characterization of time-dependent rheological behavior of fluids is studied. In particular, a model using the structural theory is proposed and applied to the characterization of the decay and recovery of fluid behavior, which are typically encountered in a dispensing process. Experiments are conducted to validate the proposed model.

Abstract:I address an overlooked question about the structure of the cognitive/conative model of the mind that underlies much of the work in economics, psychology and philosophy: namely, whether conative states are fundamentally monistic (desire-like) or comparative (preference-like). I argue that two seemingly promising sets of theoretical considerations – namely, the structure of Rational Choice Theory, and considerations of computational efficiency – are unable to resolve this debate. Given this, I suggest that a consideration that speaks in favour of the preference-based view is the fact that it makes it easier to explain certain empirically observed patterns in decision making.
