Reliability methods have being adopted by oil and gas operators for integrity management decisions. These methods explicitly account for all relevant uncertainties and are designed to provide consistent safety. Consequently, a risk or reliability based approach is a very appropriate basis for decision making in the face of uncertainties. However, as in the effective use of any powerful methodology the sensitivities of the method to assumptions and limitations of applicability need to be well understood. This paper presents how improvements were made to reliability based integrity program by understanding its limitations and sensitivities. First the inputs that have the highest impact on the results were identified. These inputs are the most appropriate areas for improvement and data gathering. It is also very important to understand how the results are to be used and for what purpose. The results of this particular inline inspection based reliability assessment are used to make better excavation and repair decisions. A defect-based and joint-based decision making process is essential for determining with sufficient confidence if each defect and joint is in a safe condition. Consequently, the improvements are focused on discriminating between the myriad of defects found during an inline inspection run. Distinct field characteristics of corrosion growth are also taken into account in these improvements. The paper presents the implementation of effective area methods for future integrity probabilistic evaluations. It also describes the benefit of applying defect-specific growth rates. Finally, case studies are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the changes.

Abstract Saturation logging tool is one key tool that has been successfully used in the Oil and Gas Industry. As important as the tool is, it should not be mistaken for a decision tool, rather it is a tool that aids decision making. Because the tool aids decision making, the decision process must be undertaken by interdisciplinary team of Engineers with historical knowledge of the tool and the performance trend of the candidate well and reservoir. No expertise is superior to historical data of well and reservoir performance because the duo follows physics and any deviation from it is attributable to a misnomer. The decision to re-enter a well for re-perforation or workover must be supported by historical production and reasonable science which here means that trends are sustained on continuous physics and not abrupt pulses. Any interpretation arising from saturation logging tools without subjecting same to reasonable science could result in wrong action. This paper is providing a methodology to enhance thorough screening of candidates for saturation logging operations. First is to determine if the candidate well is multilevel and historical production above critical gas rate before shut-in to screen-out liquid loading consideration. If any level is plugged below any producing level, investigate for micro-annuli leakage. All historical liquid loading wells should be flowed at rate above critical rate and logged at flow condition. Static condition logging is only good for non-liquid loading wells. The use of any tool and its interpretation must be subjective and there comes the clash between the experienced Sales Engineer and the Production/Reservoir Engineer with the historical evidence. A simple historical trending and analysis results of API gravity and BS&W were used in the failed plug case-study. Further successful investigation was done and the results of the well performance afterwards negated the interpretation arising from the saturation tool which saw the reservoir sand flushed. The lesson learnt from the well logging and interpretation shows that when a well is under any form of liquid loading, interpretation must be subjective with reasonable science and historical production trend is critical. It is recommended that when a well is under historical liquid loading rate, until the rate above the critical rate is determined, no logging should be done and when done, logging should be at flow condition and the interpretation subject to reasonable system physics.

Production units located in the Brazilian marine environment are responsible for the production of 95.7% of oil and 78.8% of natural gas of Brazil causing economic, environmental, and social impacts motivating us to construct a system of indicators as a tool aimed to improve the sustainable management practice of these production units. To date, one of the tools most used by the oil industry is the sustainability report, oriented by guidelines from international organizations. However, these reports have a corporate character being unable to help the sustainability management of production units’ activities. The indicators were selected based on a systemic approach, using current knowledge on sustainability indicators, together with the survey of aspects relevant to the operation and management of offshore oil and gas production units. This paper describes the proposed indicators and presents the hierarchical structure of the system, built on the economic, environmental, social, and operational dimensions. The application of the proposed system of indicators, based on multicriterial and multiple decision-making analyses, validates a complex decision process, providing improved sustainable management of offshore production units by identifying points for which the necessary measures and actions can be implemented. The paper describes the principle of the reengineering of supply chain management integrated scheduling processes in order to increase in efficiency of business process and decrease the decision-making time at collision of plan-fact deviations. The basic concept of business-processes reengineering is analyzed. The experience of reengineering of supply chain integrated scheduling business processes for the oil and gas branch is presented. The bottlenecks of the current practice were revealed. The purpose of this paper is to carry out recommendations for improving business processes based on an analysis of the current realization of the process, his provision with information systems and data flows.

Hydrocarbon resources have become the most essential commodity contributing to any nation’s growth and development in the recent years. For the past decades now, the quest for hydrocarbon resources has been increasing in an arithmetic rate that its supply can no longer meets the demand for its consumption today. In petroleum industry, seismic and well log analyses play a vital role in oil and gas exploration and formation evaluation. This study is aimed to effectively characterize the reservoirs and analyze the by-passed pay in Philus Field, Niger-Delta, Nigeria in order to look into the economic viability and profitability of the volume of oil in the identified reservoir(s). The faults in the study area trend in NW-SE direction and dip towards the south. Seven reservoirs were mapped on Philus field. A discovery trap and a by-passed (new prospect) trap were mapped out on the field. The petrophysical analysis showed that porosity of Philus field was 0.24. The volumetric analysis showed that the Stock Tank Original Oil in Place of discovery trap (Philus field) ranged from 1.6 to 43.1 Mbbl while that of new prospect trap ranged from 18.1 to 211.3 Mbbl. It is recommended that the oil reserve of Philus field needs to be recalculated.

Wetlands are areas where water covers the soil or is present either at or near the surface of the soil all year or for varying periods of time during the year, including during the growing season. The Niger Delta in Nigeria is the largest wetland in Africa and the third largest mangrove forest in the world with three sites listed as Ramsar Wetlands of International Importance. The Niger Delta wetlands and coastal resources are of high monetary significance to the local dwellers and the nation in general. This highly coveted wetland is changing rapidly, raising concern for its attendant implication on the communities relying upon its ecosystem potentials. A comprehensive data of the facilities delivered by wetlands is a significant key for real-time wetland ecosystem management. Existing literatures, were synthesized for this review on the potentials, challenges and prospects of the Niger Delta wetlands. It is pertinent from this review that the Niger Delta Wetland is wealthy in aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity of high financial significance to development of Nigeria, and is being challenged by natural and human activities such as dam construction, logging/lumbering, over-grazing, unrestrained tilling of soil for crop production, wetland reclamation, dredging, oil and gas exploration, over-fishing, invasive plant infestation, pollution, Coastal Infrastructure construction, poverty, droughts, desertification, sand storm, alien invasion, sea rising, erosion, etc. The Niger Delta Wetlands harbor tremendous wealth and supply many services that are necessary for human well-being such as location for spiritual renewal and recreation (eco-tourism), flood control, climate regulation, crop pollination, soil regeneration, raw material, energy, air and water purification; food chain supply, and medicines (Herbal solutions). This review postulates that in view of the immense significance and status of the Niger Delta Wetlands, effective and sequential monitoring be put in place by the establishment of centers of excellence in all universities in the Niger Delta Region with emphasis on studying the rich economic diversity of the wetland using remote sensing and Geographic Information System technologies for efficient conservation and management of the wetland resources.

The tourism industry as a foreign exchange earner for the non-oil and gas sector in Indonesia has contributed US $ 16.426 billion in 2018 or around 200 trillion rupiahs. North Sumatra Province is one of the government's priorities in the tourism sector, measured from the construction of Sisingamangaraja XII International Airport in Silangit, the establishment of the Lake Toba Super Priority National Tourism Strategic Area (KSPN). The current Ministry of Tourism has made significant reforms, namely changing the focus from quantity tourism to quality tourism. The development of tourism quality that is currently underway in the Lake Toba area is then measured from the perceptions of tourists who respond to the quality values they have received while in the tourist area of Lake Toba. The theory used in this research is the theory of tourism by Nare, and the theory of foreign tourists by Ghanem. Furthermore, the method used is the quantitative data analysis method. Based on the results of the study it was found that the Cronbach's Alpha value was 0.931> 0.60, so as the basis for decision making in the reliability test, it can be concluded that the data tested was reliable or consistent and reliable. Tourism actors involved in the research were also mostly tourism actors in 2004, so based on their answers it was found that there was a significant change in perceptions of foreign tourists, namely 0.931%.
