Problem setting. Fundamental scientific research on science fiction in contemporary literary criticism is rather an exception than a regularity. For a long time fantasy  did not have sufficient scientific support, remaining just a genre of mass culture. However, lately, science fiction is seen not only as something purely entertaining. After all, it gradually develops: from the scientific object of separate researches (M. Nazarenko, A. Niamtsu, S. Oliinyk, O. Stuzhuk, etc.) to the theme of the great conference “Slavic science fiction” at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University and later to the constantly acting (from 2015) research center of literature on fantasy at Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature in National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. There is also a trend from a single research to system ones. Therefore, in modern study of literature, the situation has improved considerably concerning proper understanding of this problem, but many aspects of science fiction need to be scientifically substantiated and explored. Analysis of the research. In our opinion among all modern Ukrainian fantasy writers special attention deserves Volodymyr Areniev (Volodymyr Puzii). However, there are few articles about his work. With the exception of the reviews (A. Rybalka on Bukvoiid, A. Shtefan on Chitomo or V. Chernyshenko on the Litaccent) or tangentially to a certain theme (Ovdiichuk  L. “Chronotop as a genre factor in modern science fiction and fantasy for children”, Oliinyk S. “Book image  in the fantasy world”, as an independent object, appeared in the researches of Oles Stuzhuk and Solomiia Khorob. Therefore, we see the actuality of this scientific article. Goal. To analyze the novel “Dushnytsa” by Volodymyr Areniev in terms of the functioning of the concept “soul”, which appears to be central in this work. It is also necessary to pay attention to the genre peculiarities of the existence of fantasy in the work of the chosen writer.

In 1977 on the site of famous burial mound Chmyrеva Mohyla located on the northern outskirts of Velyka Bilozerka village of Zaporizhzhia region three bronze pole-tops with images of gryphons were found by local people on the plowed field. There is no evidence whether other artifacts have been found. Luckily nearby in Gunovka village the expedition of Institute of Archaeology of National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine was working under the leadership of Yu. V. Boltryk who got the founded artifacts and then sent them to Zaporizhzhia regional museum of local lore, history and economy. The history of excavations of Chmyrеva Mohyla numbers more than a century. They were started by F. A. Braun in 1898, M. I. Veselovskiy (1909—1910) continued the excavations and Yu. V. Boltryk in 1994 completed them. The burial mound has not been excavated in full because of various reasons. The destiny of finds from this barrow was tragic. A lot of artifacts among them silver vessels from the hiding-place which was revealed by M. I. Veselovskiy were lost during the World War II when the collections of Kharkiv historic museum were evacuated. Scythian bronze pole-tops as one of the most interesting categories of artifacts for a long time attracted attention of scholar world. They were classified by types and date, their significance in funeral ceremony and everyday life was searched for. The questions still remain. In this article we tried to put into scholar circulation a scanty type of pole-tops with the image of pacing gryphon on the pear-shaped little bell which is characteristic only for Steppe Dnieper river region. For today only eight of them are known and most of them are originated from of the burial mounds of high Scythian aristocracy: Tovsta Mohyla, Haimanova Mohyla, Chmyrova Mohyla. Chronologically they are slightly differed from other pole-tops both with the image of deer on pear-shaped little bells from Tovsta Mohyla, and with the image of deer on flat cone bushes from Haimanova Mohyla. The question about the place of production of such pole-tops is still opened. Probably just these types of pole-tops could be produced in one workshop but not all known variety of objects as V. A. Ilinska thought. One of the problems to be solved by researchers is searching for such workshops. But if these objects have been moulded by wax models the task becomes more complicated.

The article considers the basic principles of creating a unified template for a scientific journal in accordance with current regulations and rules for creating original layouts, as well as taking into account the experience of specialists of the Publishing House "Akademperiodyka" of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The list of the basic regulatory documents is given, other useful links are given. The example of a typical unified template shows what the cover and title page of a scientific journal should look like, as well as the imposition page of an article of a scientific professional publication, describes in detail the necessary structural elements of a scientific article and describes their design. The choice of the solutions presented in the unified template is briefly substantiated. The most common mistakes present in domestic scientific professional journals are described. Examples from real magazines illustrate the possible variety of design within a unified template.

The article analyzes the life and creative path of the outstanding Ukrainian historian, Professor Grygorii D. Kazmyrchuk, who turns 75 years old. He has devoted more than 30 years of teaching to Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, a well-known Decembrists-scholar, historiographer and researcher of his native village of Kalknyk. The article also covers the genus of the hero of the anniversary, his family circle. A brief historical note was given of GrygoriiDmitrovich's hometown of Kalknyk village, where he was born, thanking the Kalnitsky community, investigating his history. Grygorii D. Kazmyrchuk is the founder of the School of Decembrists Studies at the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. His works are widely known abroad. The hero of the anniversary actively cooperates with the international community in the study of various history issues. He trained more than 10 candidates in this direction (A. Kulikovska, R. Lavrenyuk, A. Verbovy, L. Gubitsky, O. Lyapina, Iu. Latysh and others). Active participants of the Decembrist school were: O. Rafalsky, A. Silkin, Yu. Shlapak, V. Smirnov, T. Orlova and others. The hero of the anniversary for the first time gave the definition of the Decembrist school, developed the periodization of Decembrists movement and conducted biographical researches of the Decembrists and historians of the Decembrists (V. Bazylevych, V. Romanovsky, J. Germayze and others). Grygorii D. Kazmyrchukorganized of more than 10 congresses on Decembrists movement – «Decembrist Readings». He resumed and continued publishing papers collections of «Decembrists in Ukraine» (five papers collections appeared under his leading). G. D. Kazmyrchuk and O. P. Reent, who Headed of the Department of History of Ukraine at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century at the Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, developed a project devoted to the emergence of the Decembrist movement and held 5 International conferences on this problem. Now the project «Ukrainian Decembrist School 1825-2019» is being actively developed. G. D. Kazmyrchuk participates in the international project «Russian Decembrist Studies in Persons 1825 – 2019», where biographies of Decembrists of Ukraine of the ХIX and ХХ centuries are highlighted. Kazmyrchuk G. D. is an elder of the Kalynitsky Cossack Regiment and an honored researcher of local lore of Ukraine. He is the author of regional studies on the history of the Kalnyk village and the Kalnitsky Cossack Regiment etc. For example, the latest edition «Kalnycky Cossack Regiment (1648–1712)» (2019) is devoted to the history and the battle route of Kalnik people. His research interests are focus on History of Ukraine, Local History, Historiography, Bibliography, World History, Social History, Biography, Shevchenko Studies, Decembrist Studies, History of University and History of Education etc. The hero of the anniversary has a rich life experience, which is happy to convey to the younger generation, their own children and grandchildren. Homeland and colleagues sincerely congratulate Grygorii Dmitrovich on the occasion of the 75th anniversary and wish him strong health and longevity!

This issue of Pure and Applied Chemistry is based on plenary lectures delivered at the International Conference on Modern Physical Chemistry for Advanced Materials (MPC '07), which took place 26-30 June 2007 in Kharkiv, Ukraine.The Conference was sponsored by IUPAC and the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences, and organized by V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University in cooperation with L. M. Litvinenko Institute of Physical Organic Chemistry and Coal Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Donetsk, Ukraine) and the Physical Chemistry Department of the Ukrainian Chemical Society. Christian Amatore (Academy of Sciences of France) and Anatoliy Popov (National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine) were Chairmen of the International Scientific Committee and the International Organizing Committee, respectively. Professors Yuriy Kholin and Valentin Lebed (Kharkiv National University) headed the Local Organizing Committee and the Program Committee.The aim of the Conference was to review the physicochemical foundations of modern materials science and technology. At the same time, the event offered opportunities for Ukrainian physical chemists to strengthen international ties and collaboration, and to evaluate the status of modern physical chemistry in Ukraine against global criteria. A total of 170 active delegates from 23 countries participated in the scientific program, which provided a showcase for the achievements, both of internationally recognized experts and enthusiastic young researchers, all of whom contributed constructively to lively scientific discussions.The Conference was dedicated to the centenary of the birth of the outstanding physicochemist Prof. Nikolai Izmailov (1907-1961). On 26 June, just before the opening of the Conference, the book Scientific Heritage of N. A. Izmailov and Topical Problems of Physical Chemistry was ceremonially presented to the academic community and the media in the Kharkiv National University Museum.The majority of the 19 plenary lectures were devoted to nanoscience, supramolecular chemistry, self-assembled systems, and organized solutions. The papers collected in this issue are arranged in order of their presentation during the scientific proceedings; lectures on chromatography, delivered by Profs. V. P. Georgiyevskiy (Ukraine), V. G. Berezkin (Russia), and E. Tyihák (Hungary), will be published in the Journal of Planar Chromatography and in other journals. The program also included 46 keynote and oral presentations and 120 posters, which were distributed among symposia devoted to the following topics: chromatography, materials science, solution chemistry, theoretical chemistry, electrochemistry, kinetics and catalysis, and photochemistry.The social program included a classical music concert, welcome party, conference reception, visit to the Museum of Arts, bus excursion to the museum of the great Russian painter Il'ya Repin in Chuguev, and numerous local activities. Larry R. Squire is Professor of Psychiatry, Neurosciences, and Psychology at the University of California, San Diego, and Research Career Scientist at the San Diego Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He received a B.A. from Oberlin College, a Ph.D. from MIT, and did postdoctoral work at the Albert Einstein Medical School. His most influential mentors were Hans-Lukas Teuber and Samuel H. Barondes. His work has focused broadly on the problem of how the brain accomplishes learning and memory. Some of this work has involved mice and rats, but most of it has been carried out with monkeys and humans. Although his own studies have been concerned primarily with the function and organization of the brain systems that support memory, he sees the modern science of memory as benefiting from a broad range of approaches that includes the cellular and molecular study of synaptic plasticity as well as the study of normal cognition. In 1993–1994 he served as President of the Society for Neuroscience. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society. A book, Memory: From Mind to Molecules, coauthored with Eric Kandel, will be published in late 1998 by W. H. Freeman and Company.

For more than 50 years, the continuous photographic observations of asteroids have been carried outwith telescopes of the Astronomical Observatory of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv and the Main Astronomical Observatory of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. About 3,000 photographic plates were obtained, some of which were exposed in 1908. We collected the data on more than 5,500 positions and magnitudes of asteroids on these astroplates taking into account all results of the processing of observations available in various publications and in the Minor Planet Center database. All positional data were compared with JPL ephemeris and analyzed. From different series of asteroid observations the values of positional accuracy were obtained, depending on the methods of measuring and processing the plates and reference catalogs of stars. In order to systematically improve the obtained asteroid positions, we evaluated the possibilities of reprocessing some of the earliest asteroid observations applying the modern star high accuracy catalogs. Using the Tycho-2, Gaia DR2, and Gaia EDR3 as the reference catalogs, the 590 astroplates exposed on the MAO NASU Double Long-Focus Astrograph (DLA) in 1952-1986 were reprocessed based on old plate measurements. All newly determined and previous original asteroid positions were compared with the JPL ephemeris. The comparison results show an improvement in the systematic and random components of the accuracy of coordinates for new positions of asteroids. When comparing the new positions of the asteroids  determined in the Tycho-2 and Gaia catalog systems, no significant changes in accuracy were found.

The article republishes the ceramics and bronze decorations of Komarovo and Sosnitsa cultures of the Trzciniec cultural circle (TCC) from the exposition of the Archaeological Museum of the Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Detailed descriptions of the exhibits and their author’s graphic reconstructions are given. These things, which became a textbook long time ago, previously were published only in the form of schematic and inaccurate drawings or in the form of not very high-quality photographs. The materials originate from the sites of the northern part of the forest-steppe eastern Volhynia (Wojciechowka), Kiev (Ukrainka, Zavalovka, Zdvizhevka, Plitovische, Gostomel) and Chernigov (Rudnya) Polesie. The finds refer to different periods of the formation and development of the TСC and date back to 2nd thousand BC. Special attention is paid to vessels discovered in 1956 by N. T. Evstropov at the site Gostomel, Stekol’nyy zavod 1. S. S. Berezanskaya came to the conclusion that this point is not a household site, but «a small soil burial ground with burning», referring to a series of observations of N. T. Evstropova. Detailed comparison of the primary publication of N. T. Evstropov with subsequent re-publication of the site of S. S. Berezanskaya, allow us to call into question conclusions of the latter. One of the reasons for skepticism is the miraculous transformation of «destroyed teeth of a ruminant animal» (in N. T. Evstropov publication) into «worn-out» and «calcified bones» (in S. S. Berezanskaya publications). Fragments of the teeth of a ruminant animal (bull?) are still folded into one of the vessels exhibited at the Archaeological Museum of Institute of Archeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Could the vessels from Gostomel be connected with ritual-funeral practice, such as the vessels found in the ritual-funeral complexes of the Malopolovetskoe, Wojciechowka, Bukovna cemeteries? It is possible, but there is no evidence for this. Similarly, they can be associated with any other rituals, as well as with the remains of an ordinary household complex. N. T. Evstropov did it at the first publication of the site. Analysis of the ceramic complex allows us to attribute the Gostomel, Stekol’nyy zavod 1 point to the turn of the middle and late stages of the TCC Sosnitsa culture and date it to the end of the 13th — the beginning of the 12th centuries BC.


The collections of Cryptophagidae beetles stored in the natural museums of Ukraine were studied: three academic and two university collections – State Museum of Natural History, National Museum of Natural History and I.I. Schmalhausen Institute of Zoology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Zoological Museum of T. Shevchenko Kyiv National University and Museum of Natural History of V. Karazin Kharkiv National University, and also author’s work collection. The volumes and the state of their preservation have been analyzed. The representation of different species in collections, as a whole, and in relation to the Carpathian fauna is evaluated. In general, museum collections contain 1346 samples of Cryptophagids, in each of which – about 210-340 individuals, all of them are stored in separate boxes and punctured by entomologic needles. The author's collection includes 1657 specimens of 57 species, which are mostly stored on cotton mattresses. All six collections include 122 species of 16 genera, containing from 21 to 85 species of this family. Some samples in collections have been lost for various reasons, in 10 cases there are only needles with labels without the samples themselves, therefore, some species (eg Cryptophagus nitidulus, C. hexagonalis) are represented in collections conditionally, only in labels. At the revision of materials attention is paid to taxonomic changes, through which in the publications and in the actual material different species or generic synonymic names were used. The author also took into account the uniqueness of each of the collections, which was determined by several important parameters, including the number of samples that are presented exclusively in some of the museum of species and genera of the family, the number of samples and type specimens in collection. For most of these parameters the leader is the collection of Zoological Museum of T. Shevchenko Kyiv National University. All data is included in the author's database, which contains summaries of annotations containing collections of samples, names of regions and localities of collection, dates, collectors, or owners of the collection, and also notes with clarifications of places or details of reidentifications.

Physical theories are complex and necessary tools for gaining new knowledge about their areas of application. A distinction is made between abstract and practical theories. The last are constantly being improved in the cognitive activity of professional physicists and studied by future physicists. A variant of the philosophy of physics based on a modified structural-nominative reconstruction of practical theories is proposed. Readers should decide whether this option is useful for their understanding of the philosophy of physics, as well as other philosophies of particular sciences.The article is written within the theme “Communicative transformations in modern science” of “Program-targeted and competitive topics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine”.
