Genetically modified organisms (GMO), or transgenic products, are products formed by changing the gene sequence of the organism, or by transferring a new gene to the organism and giving it a feature that it does not have. The use of these products in the production of vaccines and drugs, in organ transplants and in the treatment of diseases, ensuring the resistance of plants to pests, long shelf life and increasing food quality are positive; allergic reactions, toxic effects, and damage to ecological diversity are negative effects. In the rese-arch, it was aimed to measure the awareness levels of the personnel about GMOs and their effects on human health. In this context, the universe of the research is composed of all public hospitals in Sinop province, and the sample is composed of personnel working in Sinop Atatürk and Gerze State Hospital. The data of the research were obtained through the questionnaire form created and by the face-to-face interview technique and random sampling method. In this context, data obtained from a total of 312 hospital employees were analyzed with the SPSS 21 package program. As a result of the analysis, it has been determined that the level of social awareness of the participants in GMO foods and their awareness about the presence and harm of GMOs in foods is high. In addition, it was determined that there were differences in terms of gender and marital status of participants according to their perception level of research dimensions.

People’s attitudes towards forest stand characteristics including deadwood are becoming increasingly relevant in sustainable forest management. The aim of this study is to investigate people’s attitudes towards deadwood in forest. The study was carried out in the Rakhiv region (Ukraine) characterized by high importance of forest resources for the local community and economy. People’s opinions were collected through the face-to-face administration of a questionnaire to 308 respondents. The survey investigated three aspects: importance of deadwood in forest; people’s perceptions of positive and negative effects of deadwood in forest; effects of presence and amount of deadwood in different types of forest on people’s aesthetical preferences. The results show that the majority of respondents consider deadwood as an important component of the forest, but generally they prefer intensively managed forests without deadwood. According to the respondents’ opinions, the most important positive effect of deadwood is a contribution to stand dynamics, while the most important negative effect is an increasing risk of insects and diseases.

IntroductionExercise, support and advice are considered core components of management for most musculoskeletal conditions and are typically provided by physiotherapists through regular face-to-face treatments. However, exercise can be provided remotely as part of a home exercise programme, while support and advice can be provided over the telephone. There is initial evidence from trials and systematic reviews to suggest that remotely provided physiotherapy can be used to manage a variety of musculoskeletal conditions safely and effectively. Methods and analysisThe aim of this single-blind randomised controlled non-inferiority trial is to determine whether a supported home exercise programme is as good as or better than face-to-face physiotherapy for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. Two hundred and ten participants will be recruited from five public hospitals in Sydney, Australia. Participants will be randomised to either the supported home exercise group or the face-to-face physiotherapy group. Participants allocated to the supported home exercise group will initially receive one face-to-face session with the trial physiotherapist and will then be managed remotely for the next 6 weeks. Participants allocated to the face-to-face physiotherapy group will receive a course of physiotherapy as typically provided in Sydney government hospitals. The primary outcome is function measured by the Patient Specific Functional Scale at 6 weeks. There will be nine secondary outcomes measured at 6 and 26 weeks. Separate analyses will be conducted on each outcome, and all analyses will be conducted on an intention-to-treat basis. A health economic evaluation will be conducted from a health funder plus patient perspective.Ethics and disseminationEthical approval was obtained on the 17 March 2017 from the Northern Sydney Local Health District HREC, trial number HREC/16HAWKE/431-RESP/16/287. The results of this study will be submitted for publication to peer-reviewed journals and be presented at national and international conferences. Recruitment commenced in March 2019, and it is anticipated that the trial will be completed by December 2021. This trial will investigate two different models of physiotherapy care for people with musculoskeletal conditions.Trial registration numberCPMP/ICH-135/95.Protocol versionThe most recent version of the protocol is V.1.2 dated November 2019.

The pandemic by Covid-19 has impacted the ways of learning, so that the sudden change from the face to face modality to distance education as a measure to precent contagion, it is a phenomenon that must be investigated to provide alternatives that support the learning process from home. The aims this present study are design, apply, evaluate and propose learnig strategies for students to reach their máximum potential through distance education during the pandemic. For it an educational action research was carried out with one hundred and twenty health science students (nursing and physioterapy) from the Universidad de Guadalajara, during March to October 2020. Distance learning strategies were carried because out to the suspension of face to face clases due to Covid-19, wich they were based on family participation and the insertion on the play in the learning activities of the medical etymologies course. The evaluation of the strategies was carried out by collecting the evidence of learning and a virtual self-evaluation questionnaire. It was found that including family and play in distance education helped mitigate the negative effects of confinement from the pandemic, wich has also strengthened the resilience of students.

In this study consumers’ perception of, and purchase intention for genetically modified foods were examined in the city center of Hatay. The data of the 343 surveys were collected by using the face to face interview method. The data were analyzed by means of Likert Scale, and Spearman Correlation Analysis. According to the survey results, consumers’ risk perceptions about genetically modified foods are quite high. Consumers don’t willingly purchase genetically modified foods, and they intend to consume foods grown in traditional methods. High risk perceptions have a determining role on consumers’ views about genetically modified foods and their purchase intention for them. Another outcome from this study is that consumers’ awareness and knowledge levels about genetically modified foods are quite low, and that their perceptions and attitudes are mostly based on biases.

Genetically modified organisms (GMO) are organisms whose genetic modification of heritable genetic material (DNA) is a planned amendment to the unnatural way by applying modern techniques of genetic engineering, or, a gene or genes from one organism are inserted into another organism, what in nature with a natural breeding would never be created. GMOs are a source of modified laboratory food, supplements and various additives. The subject of this research paper is to see the impact of GM food as a threat or a benefit on the health of humans and animals, as well as its application in the Republic of Macedonia. Comparative analysis of scientific research in the field of modern biotechnology science using the technique of genetic engineering has been used in this paper. From the analysis of previous research, there are no official data on possible effects on human health, and animal tests have shown negative effects on their health.

AbstractThis chapter explores the ambiguous allocation of authority in the governance of two areas of environmental protection: industrial pollution and genetically modified organisms. Ambiguity, that is, a difficulty in asserting that any single actor has the final word on a subject, is inevitable in the EU’s multi-level governance system and is not necessarily undesirable. These two examples demonstrate that even in the face of concerted efforts to introduce a formal hierarchy, the need for collaboration around softer norms persists.

When taking decisions on environment, being satisfied only with the science and technology without considering the ethical and philosophical problems will create more problems than it solves. The fundamental assumption in this study is that the environment policies should be determined by incorporating the views of as different stakeholders as possible and in political circles within an ethical framework. For example, by using biotechnology, it is possible to cultivate, reproduce and genetically modify the organs, tissue and cells of vegetables. Despite strongly opposed by environment organizations, anti-globalization groups, some academicians and politicians due to their negative effects on natural world, Genetically Modified Organisms are promoted by some agricultural producers and manufacturing companies as well as by some political groups. The importance of referring to the environmental ethics approaches in making the bio policies is understood when we consider that although claims focus on the idea that the reproduction of the genetically modified species will reduce famine in the world, heal diseases and ensure continuity in agriculture, the available data indicate that the main purpose is to control the sectors like seed, food and medical products.

Children with Rett Syndrome (RS) are reported to use multiple modalities to communicate although their intentionality is often questioned (Bartolotta, Zipp, Simpkins, & Glazewski, 2011; Hetzroni & Rubin, 2006; Sigafoos et al., 2000; Sigafoos, Woodyatt, Tuckeer, Roberts-Pennell, & Pittendreigh, 2000). This paper will present results of a study analyzing the unconventional vocalizations of a child with RS. The primary research question addresses the ability of familiar and unfamiliar listeners to interpret unconventional vocalizations as “yes” or “no” responses. This paper will also address the acoustic analysis and perceptual judgments of these vocalizations. Pre-recorded isolated vocalizations of “yes” and “no” were presented to 5 listeners (mother, father, 1 unfamiliar, and 2 familiar clinicians) and the listeners were asked to rate the vocalizations as either “yes” or “no.” The ratings were compared to the original identification made by the child's mother during the face-to-face interaction from which the samples were drawn. Findings of this study suggest, in this case, the child's vocalizations were intentional and could be interpreted by familiar and unfamiliar listeners as either “yes” or “no” without contextual or visual cues. The results suggest that communication partners should be trained to attend to eye-gaze and vocalizations to ensure the child's intended choice is accurately understood.
