Aim. To determine physiologically expedient rates of mineral nitrogen in winter rye production on sod-podzol- ic soils based on the orientation of the processes of biological nitrogen transformation in the plants rhizosphere. Methods. Field studies, gas chromatography determination of potential nitrogen fi xation activity and potential emissions of N 2 O. Results. The results obtained have demonstrated that the rates of mineral nitrogen, not ex- ceeding 60 kg/ha, can be considered physiologically expedient for winter rye production on sod-podzolic soils. Under the application of microbial preparation Diazobakteryn, there is a higher physiological need of plants for nitrogen, which allows increasing the rates of nitrogen fertilizers up to 90 kg/ha. Conclusions. The orienta- tion of the processes of biological nitrogen transformation in the root zone of plants is a reliable indicator of determining the appropriateness of nitrogen fertilization of crops.

The results of studies on the role of growth biostimulants in the exogenous regulation of potato productivity on sod-podzolic soils of the Moscow region are presented.Studies have established the specificity of the action of phytohormones. The stimulating effect of the drugs manifested itself in the intensification of metabolic processes, changing the direction of biochemical reactions, which led to an increase in productivity.

The changes of the soil’s humus soil within the rural areas are investigated for the organic farming system. The most significant impact of organic agriculture on humus content over 55% was observed on soddy podzolic soils (V>75%), the lowest –7,5% on typical chernozem (V≈16%). Changes in the qualitative composition of humus for the introduction of various types of organic substrates are analyzed.

The general ecology of an undescribed indigenous earthworm species in the Megascolecidae, found in the organic horizons of Podzolic soils under mixed stands of Tsugaheterophylla, Abiesamabilis, Thujaplicata, and Pseudotsugamenziesii, is described. The earthworm is a member of the genus Arctiostrotus. Over a range of sites, population numbers of earthworms were correlated to rooting concentration in and immediately below the mor humus. By micromorphological examination, earthworm casts were found to account for up to 60% by volume of the constituent solids of the organic horizons. The abundance of both fine roots and fungal hyphae in the worm casts suggested high nutrient availability. Analysis of fresh faecal material showed a marked increase in most important nutrients (N, P, K, Mg, Fe, Na) relative to levels in noningested litter. Observations indicate that this earthworm species, whose population density may reach 200 m−2, has a major role in the decomposer subsystem of these ecosystems.

Determination of oxalate-extractable Si and Al is useful in assessing the degree of accumulation of allophane-like materials in Podzolic soils. Three procedures were tested for determining Si: manual spectrophotometry, automated spectrophotometry and atomic absorption. For concentrations of oxalate-extractable Si above 0.5 g kg−1, there was no significant difference among results by the three procedures. For lower concentrations of Si, results by atomic absorption were higher than those by the spectrophotometric procedures. Determination by Si by autoanalyzer is the preferred procedure as it is convenient, sensitive and reliable. Key words: Oxalate Si, Podzolic soil, autoanalyzer

Agricultural practices in agrocenoses of different ages and in fallow lands of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Region of the Russian Federation were studied with account for post-agrogenic transformations of soils under cryogenic conditions. Agricultural practices in the YNAR are much consistent with those in Finnish Lapland, Southern Greenland, and remote fishing villages in Alaska. Well-drained areas with sandy, light and medium loamy, sod-meadow or sod-podzolic soils, which are easily warmed and not floating in cases of heavy rainfall, are selected for gardens and fields. The depth of permafrost is reduced in plowed areas and depends on the age of their development. The content of available forms of phosphorus and potassium in the upper layer of fallow soils remains very high even through 5-20 years. The use of agricultural techniques, including mulching, drainage, and application of manure and compost derived from fish, increases soil fertility. Currently, agriculture in YNAR decays for such reasons as remoteness (logistics problems), dependence on weather conditions, difficulties in field cultivation, lack of market for agricultural products, and limited choice of products due to natural conditions and the specifics of the agricultural industry. The small indigenous peoples and the landscapes of the North are inseparable and may be sustainable only based on the traditional ways of life harmonized with the natural and social environments.

The results of researches of influence of ways of application of growth regulator "Vermiyodis" and sowing norms on productivity of winter rape of Cheremosh and hybrid Mercedes are covered. The study was performed during 2017-2020 on sod-podzolic soils of the experimental field of the Carpathian State Agricultural Research Station of the Institute of Agriculture of the Carpathian region of NAAS Taking into account the yield, it was found that the pre-sowing treatment of winter rapeseed Cheremosh with growth regulator "Vermiyodis" at a dose of 5 l / ha on average for 2017-2020 at sowing rates of 0.6 million / ha of similar seeds, the yield was 3.60 t / ha or 0.26 t / ha more than control, for sowing rates 0.8 million / ha of similar seeds - 3.92 t / ha or 0.21 t / ha more than control, for sowing rates 1.0 million / ha of similar seeds - 3.46 t / ha or 0.23 t / ha more than control. With a single spraying of winter oilseed rape plants during the growing season with the growth regulator "Vermiyodis" at a dose of 4 l / ha at sowing rates of 0.6 million / ha of similar seeds, the yield was 3.62 t / ha or 0.28 t / ha more control, with at the sowing rate of 0.8 million / ha of similar seeds, the yield was 3.94 t / ha or 0.33 t / ha more than the control, at the sowing rate of 1.0 million / ha of similar seeds, the yield was 3.48 t / ha or 0.25 t / ha more than control. In the variants where pre-sowing treatment of rapeseed seeds of winter hybrid Mercedes with growth regulator "Vermiyodis" at a dose of 5 l / t and during the growing season was carried out a single spraying of plants with growth regulator "Vermiyodis" at a dose of 4 l / ha at seeding rates of 0.6 million / ha similar seeds yield was 3.73 t / ha or 0.39 t / ha more than control, at sowing rates of 0.8 million / ha of similar seeds - 4.07 t / ha or 0.46 t / ha more than control, at sowing rates of 1.0 million / ha of similar seeds - 3.62 t / ha or 0.39 t / ha more than control. Double spraying of rapeseed plants of the winter hybrid Mercedes during the growing season of plants with the growth regulator "Vermiyodis" at a dose of 4 l / ha at sowing rates of 0.6 million / ha of similar seeds, the yield was 3.82 t / ha or 0.48 t / ha more control, for sowing rates of 0.8 million / ha of similar seeds - 4.15 t / ha or 0.54 t / ha more than control, for sowing rates of 1.0 million / ha of similar seeds - 3.68 t / ha or 0.45 t / ha more than control. In the variants where pre-sowing treatment of Cheremosh winter rape seeds with Vermiyodis growth regulator was carried out at a dose of 5 l / t and during the growing season, plants were sprayed with Vermiyodis growth regulator at a dose of 4 l / ha at sowing rates of 0.6 million / ha of similar seeds. yield was 3.91 t / ha or 0.57 t / ha more than control, for sowing rates of 0.8 million / ha of similar seeds - 4.24 t / ha or 0.63 t / ha more than control, for norms sowing 1.0 million / ha of similar seeds - 3.77 t / ha or 0.50 t / ha more than control.
