Linking Innovativeness and Business Performance: A Study of Malaysian Technology-Based SMEs

One of the most crucial sources of sustainable business in this increasing changing environment is innovation. Innovation leads to improvement of product, services and process and at the same time it allows firms to survive, grows and gets more profits than non-innovators with continuous advancement. This study aims to determine the innovativeness of technology-based SMEs and to investigate the relationships between innovativeness and business performance. This study adopts a quantitative method where the respondents were the owners/ top managers of technology-based SMEs in Malaysia.  Results from quantitative study indicate that technology-based SMEs in Malaysia are innovative and innovativeness has significant and positive impact towards business performance. This study would add to the body of knowledge by examining innovativeness in technology-based SMEs.

Business model innovation (BMI) is one of the key activities, which has to be continuously undertaken in every enterprise to sustain competitiveness in today’s digital economy. Although the interest in business models (BM) has risen significantly since the late 1990s, little is known about BMI practices in small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), representing a majority of enterprises in the European market. Our study addresses this research gap and focuses on the investigation of drivers and outcomes of BMI in SMEs. A partial least squares path modeling (PLS-PM) method was used to empirically test the model using data collected in 2017 from 71 SMEs in Slovenia. Results have shown that the innovativeness of enterprises and their business environment has a positive impact on the level of BMI activities in the enterprises. However, this is not the case of fast developing and rapidly changing information technology. In addition, the results show that the level of BMI has a positive impact on BMI outcomes and further on overall business performance. The results contribute to the body of knowledge in the field of BMI activities in SMEs and offer useful insights to SMEs that intend to innovate their business model(s) and government to create a supportive environment.

<p align="center"><strong>Abstract</strong></p><p> </p><p>Both private and public sectors are ready for a new management model that engages the workforce.  Necessitated by the baby boomer retirements rates, lower unemployment, an increased demand for skilled and unskilled labor, and the newest generation in the employment pool, companies have a need to create cultures that attract and retain talent like never before.  As a result, a variety of new books, articles, and theories have been introduced to the body of knowledge, including concepts to attempt to change the organizational culture.  This case study demonstrates an experiment conducted in a Fortune 500 company, integrating theories and practices from a variety of domains to improve the team culture and ultimately business performance.  The tools and techniques are offered for replication.</p>

As a result of the 1997 Kyoto Protocol, numerous countries have become highly interested in sustainability. Manufacturers have been triggered to develop sustainable supply chain strategies in consideration of their value-added processes and stakeholders. This study was conducted, in the context of small- and medium-sized enterprises in the Taiwanese manufacturing industry, in order to examine the relationship between sustainability and business performance from the perspective of the supply chain aspects of business cooperation, operation integration, and enterprise commitment. A total of 290 companies were surveyed and structural equation modeling was applied to analyze the figures from the samples. The results reveal that the implementation of sustainable practices in the context of enterprise commitments, supply chain cooperation, and operation integration has a positive impact on sustainability and business performance. Furthermore, in high-value manufacturing, supply chain cooperation significantly affects sustainable business performance through internal operation integration. These results may serve as a reference for the realization of supply chain sustainability in small- and medium-sized enterprises.

The recurrent struggle of seeking employment and the saturated labor market is a harsh reality in the lives of many university students. Entrepreneurship is arguably the most effective contributor to employment and economic growth. However, very few entrepreneurship graduates start businesses immediately after graduation. Moreover, while academic institutions invest in developing entrepreneurship curriculum and extending the body of knowledge, little is invested in practical programs. There is, therefore, a need to practically teach entrepreneurship. This research was aimed at establishing the impact of practical entrepreneurship project on future entrepreneurial intentions of students. The research was quantitative in nature and a questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents. The research found that the practical entrepreneurship project had a positive impact on the future entrepreneurial intentions of the students. The sample for the survey reported in this article included 25 participants across various career fields. Religiosity studies in Indonesia is an interesting topic; however, one of the biggest challenges in studying religiosity in Indonesia is the neutrality of the researcher regardless of their attitudes toward religion. This editorial note will explore the meaning of neutrality in religiosity studies. Specifically, it emphasizes the responsibility of the researchers to understand the complexity of religion by acknowledging that religion can have a positive impact and/or negative effect on believers. Furthermore, the present note describes how studies on the psychology of religion in Indonesia can contribute to the body of knowledge not only at the local level, but also at the global context.

The creative economy paradigm emphasizes the importance of ideas and intellectual property as an entrepreneurial prerequisite for being able to survive in fierce global competition. Today, an entrepreneur is required to create products with unique differences in power over competitors to stay alive in the industry. Organizational external and internal resources such as Information Technology (IT) and local culture are strategic asset sources that have an important role in building business performance. This study departs from the gap of research that is still inconclusive about the effect of IT on Organizational Performance (OP). The research direction offers novelty concepts from the perspective of resourcebased entrepreneurship theory. This paper offers the concept of Inimitable-based Innovative Entrepreneurship (IBIE),which in its ontology IBIE is the application of innovation distribution of product attributes sourced from the local nuances of design so that it becomes an iconic product that is difficult to emulate. The direction of this study will examine the concept of IBIE at the organizational level. The sample is 138 creative entrepreneurs who are SME owners who base their needs on design images that are always renewable. Hypothesis testing carried out shows empirically the IBIE variable has been able to act as a full mediation variable to bridge the gap between IT (Beta (β) = 0.747) and OP (β = 3.341). IBIE becomes a concept that fills the space of the influence of IT on OP in the body of knowledge in the entrepreneurship domain.

Purpose:The main purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between customer satisfaction and business performance on a case of Lloyds Bank UK. Moreover, it also evaluates the customer satisfaction level and examines the business performance of Lloyds Bank through examining various factors of business performance. Design/Methodology: The necessary data were collected through structured questionnaires from five branches of Lloyds Bank. The sample of 250 customers and 80 management level employees are used in this research. The collected data were analysed through correlation and regression analysis, mean and standard deviation through SPSS 20. Main Findings: The mean score of every variable is more than 3 out of 5 and mean score of overall customer satisfaction is 3.89 (77.8% satisfaction) indicates that there is high level of customer satisfaction in Lloyds Bank. Similarly, mean score of overall business performance is 3.73 (75%) shows a high level of business performance. The Pearson’s coefficient of correlation between overall customer satisfaction and business performance is r = 0.343 indicated that they are positively correlated. But, regression analysis shows that customer satisfaction has not significant effect on business performance as P = 0.139 and β = 0.343. Thus, it shows that customer satisfaction has week positive relationship with business performance.Value: This research refines and reinforces the body of knowledge and understanding regarding to customer satisfaction and organisational performance analysis. These findings may be useful to the organisation for future planning to enhance customer satisfaction to increase business performance. The instruments may have practical implications for examining customer satisfaction and business performance in any business organisations.Limitations: This research was conducted through cross sectional approach and limited sample of 250 customers and 80 employees from 16 branches in the main cities of the UK. The paper's purpose is to add to the body of knowledge on marketing communication effectiveness by developing and testing the model of marketing communication effectiveness in the business-to-business markets. Based on past research from the marketing communications and business-to-business marketing literature, the model is tested to examine the impact of antecedent variables on marketing communications effectiveness and organizational performance. Our analysis indicates that a central concept of marketing communication effectiveness is influenced by different variables. We also confirmed a positive impact of marketing communication effectiveness on organizational performance in case of Slovenian companies.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the relative merits of thesis consultation with a librarian prior to graduate submission and to explore whether thesis consultation has a significant impact on the quality of the theses submitted by postgraduate students. Design/methodology/approach This study uses a quantitative case study approach. The total number of thesis scrutiny reports written by librarians between 2009 and 2014 has been reviewed for errors found in theses. Errors have been classified as referencing errors and formatting errors. These have been compiled in a spreadsheet and analyzed using the SPSS statistical package. Findings This paper highlights that thesis consultation has had a positive impact on the quality of the theses students submitted for examination at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. Thesis consultation with a strong focus on referencing clearly assisted students learning and applying different citation styles. There was a decrease in the number of referencing errors over time. Not much difference was seen in terms of formatting errors. Further tests showed that there was a statistically significant positive relationship between thesis consultation and the number of referencing errors made by graduate students. Practical implications This study may have implications for the engagement of academic libraries with their graduate communities. With thesis consultation, a librarian may scrutinize the same thesis more than once. Although this may increase the workload of librarians, thesis consultation/scrutiny will have a positive impact on the quality of research produced by graduate students. Originality/value This study shows that students benefited from thesis consultation and there was a significant reduction in citation errors. In reviewing the literature, it has been noted that research done in the area of thesis consultation was very limited; hence, this study significantly contributes to the body of knowledge that presently exists.

Small and mid-size enterprises (SME) are considered the backbone of developing economies in terms of reducing poverty and unemployment. Although most SMEs are still reluctant in new technology adoption, such as cloud computing, some benefited from the services provided by cloud technology. This study aims to assess the performance evaluation of small and mid-sized enterprises (SMEs) regarding the usage of cloud computing in their activities. The quantitative study was conducted on a sample of 112 respondents employed in Turkish SMEs. A research model is utilized based on performance specific scales. Results signified cloud technology’s positive impact on business performance.
