This research proposes a study about a lightning protection system - LPS applied to popular buildings in the city of Manaus-AM, considering its importance for the protection of the whole structure, as well as the people who circulate in it. Atmospheric discharge is a force of nature, so it is almost impossible to stop this process from occurring or flowing with you. However, measures can be taken to avoid damage to the population, such as risk of death to living beings, as well as problems with electronic equipment and compromise of the building structure, with the adoption of lightning protection system in the most efficient way. . In addition, an atmospheric discharge, when it hits a structure, can cause internal systems to fail, considering that each structure is subject to damage determined by certain factors, such as: type of construction, function of the structure, power lines and metal pipes, among others. . The region and its intrinsic characteristics should also be considered as an indicator of climate change, indicating an increase in the region's occurrence.

The present study sought to highlight the importance of protection against electric discharges to a school in the public school of the city of Manaus-AM, based on the basic recommendations and guidelines for making decisions presented in the elaboration of a ADPS proposal. The methodology of the work was based on the collection of information on the subject from the theoretical-bibliographic research, as well as the accomplishment of the field research in the school through the technical visits for data collection. The results of the research were presented in the technical verification report of the ADPS need at school, so the study carried out a detailed study on the protection risk management, the analysis of the risk components to the atmospheric discharges, general risk assessment, evaluation the design of the protection system. Based on the report, the research presented the appropriate recommendations to assist school management in decision making, considering the importance of protecting the public heritage from the damages caused by the atmospheric discharges.

The Wester coastal Delta zone of the Netherlands, the relatively more crowded area of the country hosting ten out of seventeen heading to twenty million people, asks for a growing alertness on the topic of resiliency the light of climate-change, like many coastal urban areas do. Approaches of resiliency are often pre-dominated by governmental rescue planning and mobilization of technology innovative solutions. By comparing the float disasters of the 2015 Katrina and 2012 Sandy thunder-storms that hit respectively New Orleans and New York we can learn that the behaviour of people can make the difference in overcoming climate change impact disasters. Post-PhD research with focus on the Dutch Zaanstreek-Waterland area north of the city of Amsterdam, where in 1916 a severe flood took place, proved such. The outcome from focus group sessions is that the alertness and availability of the people to act in case of disaster urgency makes a positive difference, if the memory of the area residents to previous disaster handling is kept alert. This Zaanstreek-Waterland research showed that the disaster from 100 year before still kept the residents alert into resiliency. With that result the defi-nition of resilience should be improved by adding: ‘the interplay in a triangular relationship of civil servants, technicians and residents’.

Brazil is a country with high incidences of atmospheric discharges and during the year, several people are killed by these discharges. The main known discharge protection measure is the SPDA (Atmospheric Discharge Protection System). In this sense, this work proposes to present the measurements of SPDA (System of Protection Against Atmospheric Discharges) in a school located in the city of Manaus and its role for local security, by measuring the variables of an SPDA system, demonstration of the technical conditions of the SPDA and arguments that point out the relevance of the correct procedure for the realization of this process and importance of spda. For this, bibliographic research and on-site field study of the entire spda installation process was carried out in the buildings, multi-sport court and school water box. According to the studies conducted, it was observed that as measurements of ohmic resistances measured were low, very close to 0 ohms. The stress measures were collected, which were also low. The INSTALLED SPDA went to the Cage of Faraday and Franklin. For the school under study, the implanted SPDA obeyed all the standards that regulate it. The college is an environment frequented by many people of different age groups, the installation of spda implanted and sized ensures the protection of heritage, as well as safety and protection to life, because in case of an atmospheric discharge, there is a system who will receive it and lead it there is a path designed for it. If there were no, the building would be fully exposed to this risk and so would people. Therefore, even if spda does not guarantee absolute protection, the protection range it meets is representative, thus ensuring in a certain way the safety of people and protection of building and people. It was also found that the maintenance of the SPDA should be done annually from the start date of the technical report, to ensure the effectiveness of the system.

Based on the concept of a livable and global age-friendly city, pavements are a public facility that the city should provide to the people. Appropriate pavements will be beneficial for the people, particularly for good quality of life for the elderly to move around in the city. This study explored the behaviour of the elderly in the use of pavements and the problems confronted. The study also evaluated the value of the pavement walking area as it reflected the benefits of pavements to the elderly by applying the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM). During March-May 2017, data were collected using interviews with 601 elderly living in Bangkok. The study indicated that the main problem for senior citizens regarding their use of pavements was from being disturbed by motorbikes riding on the pavements. The average value of pavement for the elderly was about THB 160 (USD 5.30) per person per year. Thus, the benefits of pavements to the elderly in Bangkok was approximately THB 158 million (USD 5.2 million) per year. Thus, policy makers should make proper budget allocations for elderly-friendly pavement management and seriously address the problems confronting the elderly in using pavements, to maximize the usefulness of pavements not only for the elderly but also for the public and to support a sustainable urban development.

Climate change has now become a reality that has intensified the sufferings of people living in arid ecosystems. Decrease in rainfall, rise in temperature and increase in the frequency of extreme events are some of the changes observed in the semi-arid desert of district Tharparkar. For thousands of years, people of Tharparkar are coping with drought and aridity of the land by using indigenous knowledge. However, global changes in the climatic pattern and deterioration of social and economic conditions have pushed the inhabitants of this arid region into extreme vulnerable situation. This paper investigates the link between climate-induced natural disasters, particularly drought, from the perspective of changing climate patterns which have resulted in food insecurity and water scarcity. The paper analyses the rainfall pattern in the last 38 years—dividing it into two periods i.e. from 1975-1994 and 1995-2014. The findings of the paper have challenged the prevailing notions about aridity and rainfall patterns in Tharparkar district. The research found that there is an increase in average annual precipitation in the district with erratic patterns. Thus, the nature of drought in the district has changed from its historic pattern of less or no rainfall to more but erratic rainfall that is more threatening to livelihoods of the people that in turn have multiplier effect on water and food insecurity. In particularly, women are more vulnerable in the absence of social security and lack of basic necessities for their survival amidst drought. For instance, traditionally the burden of managing water resources falls on women, which leads to an increased work load during the time of drought and also water scarcity. Infrastructure development is an integral part of national development and the driving wheel of economic growth. Infrastructure also has an important role in strengthening national unity and unity (Bappenas: 2009). The banjarwaru, banjarwangi, and telukpinang highways are the access roads traversed by 8 villages including alternative routes for the cicurug-sukabumi area. This road is always passed by the people who headed to the city. Therefore, the benefits of this road is very important because it is often passed from the cicurug-sukabumi area due to the diversion of traffic flow so that the intensity of high road users. In this study the author uses the theory of Ridwan and Sudrajat. Quality of service is the level of incompatibility between expectations with customer desires and also the perceptions of these customers. Quality of service here can be assessed by looking at the dimensions. These dimensions include the quality of service, the ability of officials, and service convenience. During the observation to the community through the survey to direct approach with the community, most people complained that the development service to build the kecamatan should be further improved and the results of this study showed that the Quality Assessment of Service in Road Infrastructure Development in Ciawi Sub-district Bogor Regency is categorized Fair Good this is because the assessment of the quality of development services by the Subdistrict Apparatus itself and from the community assess the ability of District Officers still have to be improved in conducting the service and its implementation. Keywords: Service Quality, Infrastructure Development.
