The study was about a novel approach to Integrated Science teaching and learning in a selected Ghanaian junior high school. In this study, the approach to teaching and learning Integrated Science has been made entirely new and meaningful in the sense that the four learning behaviours (acquisition of knowledge, comprehension, application of knowledge and experimental skills) which constitute profile dimensions were incorporated into the objective-stating, lesson-delivery and assessment of lessons. The researcher made use of profile dimensions in preparing lesson plans, taught students with the new strategy and assessed the impact of the new approach on students in terms of teaching and learning of science. The students were highly interested in answering low order question. About 80% of the questions were high order questions which were poorly answered. They actually showed very little interest in answering high order questions. However, as the weeks went by and the approach to teaching the new strategy was improved, students’ interests were aroused and sustained leading to students demonstrating high ability to answer high order questions conveniently. By the end of the study, the students were able to set up and conduct experiments, observe the outcome and draw their own conclusions. The students could classify items based on their characteristics and discuss issues (like balanced diet) and outline the effect of malnutrition in animals. Students’ scientific drawings were neater and clearer with less woolen lines. The implication of the finding is that, with these learning behaviours and skills, students could do analytical thinking and have the capacity to apply their knowledge to problems and issues.

This study sought to examine whether junior high school teachers’ attitudes are enabling or disabling dispositions toward inquiry-based science teaching. We used concurrent triangulation mixed methods design involving surveys and multiple case studies to collect quantitative and qualitative data. We sampled 308 integrated science teachers and a subsample of 18 teachers from junior high schools in urban and rural areas. Validity and reliability of the questionnaire were satisfactory for research. Credibility and dependability of the semi-structured interview schedule were also sufficient. Findings suggest that most junior high school teachers in the study context hold weak unfavourable attitudes that are disabling dispositions toward inquiry-based science teaching. Findings also suggest that the combination of societal subjective norms, perceived context dependency, and weak unfavourable attitudes of most junior high school teachers adversely influence their intentions and behaviours toward inquiry-based science teaching. Findings further suggest that most teachers in the study context developed weak unfavourable attitudes partly because they never had inquiry-based science teaching and learning experiences when they were students. Again, the teachers developed weak general attitudes toward science teaching partly because most science teaching and learning experiences they had were in specific subjects such as biology, chemistry, and physics instead of general (integrated) science. We recommend frequent attitude-focused inquiry-based science in-service trainings for junior high school teachers. We also recommend reforms in education that engages preservice teachers in attitude-focused inquiry-based science teaching and learning experiences.

Traditional honey gathering is performed by most Malay communities in Jambi Province, Indonesia. The process of honey gathering is not merely taking honey, and other associated products such as wax, but has also developed into an important cultural ritual, and even become a part of the identity of the Jambi Malay community. Traditional honey gathering also involves values ​​and local knowledge that can enrich science teaching and learning. This study aims to reveal the science content of traditional honey gathering in Jambi. Data were collected through participatory observations as well as a literature review. The results show that the traditional honey gathering can be integrated into teaching to create more meaningful science learning, especially in junior high school. The integration can be implemented by employing constructivist based learning models that are adjusted to the students’ conditions and the environment around their schools. Keywords: local knowledge, traditional honey gathering, science learning ABSTRAK Pengambilan madu secara tradisional dilakukan oleh sebagian besar masyarakat melayu di Propinsi Jambi. Prosesi pengambilan madu tidak semata-mata hanya untuk mendapatkan madu atau pun produk lain yang terkait madu seperti malam (lilin), tetapi sudah berkembang menjadi budaya bahkan menjadi identitas masyarakat Melayu Jambi. Pengambilan madu secara tradisional juga mengandung nilai-nilai dan pengetahuan yang dapat diintegrasikan dalam pembelajaran sains.  Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyingkap aspek ethnosains dari tradisi pengambilan madu pada masyarakat Melayu Jambi.  Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi partisipatif, wawancara mendalam (in-depth interview), serta kajian literatur.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pengambilan madu tradisional dapat diintegrasikan untuk menciptakan pembelajaran IPA di SMP yang lebih bermakna. Dalam implementasinya, pembelajaran dapat dilakukan dengan model-model pembelajaran yang berbasis konstruktivisme, sesuai dengan kondisi siswa dan lingkungan di sekitar sekolah.   Kata kunci: Pengetahuan lokal, pengambilan madu tradisional, pembelajaran sains

The instruction of Integrated Science at Junior High School considers with the use of Inquiry Approach. The students are provided with the daily reality occurs in their life. The Integrated Science at Junior High School has some features covering the developing ability in questioning, searching the questions, understanding the questions, and completing the questions on “what”, “why”, and “how” about the natural symptom as well as its characteristics systematically that to be applied in the environment and the technology. Such understanding of that integrated should be balanced with the students’ psychology in which they are led to the content, so the process and the psychomotor are more urgent but the cognitive side is not to be ignored.

The study deals with the Contextual Teaching and Learning of the students’ reading comprehension at junior high school. Contextual Teaching and Learning is a new alternative for every teachers to relate the materials to the real world. The aims of the research are to analyze the effect of non and CTL method of the students’ reading comprehension.  The research method is an experimental method. The data analysis is taken from the two classess. Then, they divided into two  groups, the control and experimental group. The major findings of the study shows that the effect of Contextual Teaching and Learning on the students’ reading comprehension is better than the non CTL method-lecture method for the junior high school students.

Therefore, the author conducted a survey on junior high school in South Tangerang, Banten. Students ability to organize themselves into an important key in developing the ability to think creatively. Students will know what you want to achieve so that he has a conscious effort to focus the attention and the ability to complete the task. Ability is what is required by Indonesian golden generation because they will be dealing with a very complex challenge. The golden generation should be given so that the provision could be responsible for the lives of himself and his people.

Teachers are facilitators that assist students to make the learning process easier and more comfortale. Techer question is a part of learning process. The  aim  of  this  research  is to  find out the types  of  questions  asked  by teachers  in  teaching  and  learning  process.  This  research  is  descriptive  research.  Participant of this research are two English teachers at SMP PGRI Bandung. The  data  collection  used  two  instruments  namely    audio  recording  and  note taking.  From  this  research,  researcher  found  that  open ended questions are mostly occur in the classroom beside ; yes/no questions, short answer   questions,   display   questions,   referential   questions   and   non   retrieval questions. During research, there are three kind of languages used by teachers, they are English, mixed English –Indonesian, and Indonesian.
