Kelor is a plant species that has many benefits because of its nutritional content. The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared Moringa as a miracle plant, because it has saved many lives, especially children in many poor countries. Kelor has the opportunity to be developed in Sumatra, especially Riau as an alternative food crop, source of some important nutrients such as vitamins, proteins and anti-oxidants. Kelor from East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is known to have the best quality in Indonesia. Its development in Riau requires preliminary research related to the growth of seedlings in several growing medium that have characteristics similar to those in Riau. This study uses a completely randomized design with treatment of growing medium in the form of three treatments, namely black soil, podsolic soil and peat soil mixture. The analysis was carried out descriptively and inference to the parameters of the percentage of life and height of Moringa seedlings. The results showed that seedling growing medium from top soil + fuel husk were best for Moringa seedling growth. Seedling growing media from top soil  sub soil or from top soil alone can be the best alternative afterwards.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are 3 million cases of pesticide poisoning each year and up to 220,000 deaths primarily in developing countries. Commercial repellents and pesticides, aside from being expensive, also contain chemicals that, when ingested, may pose further threats to the health of humans. The study aims to determine which plant preparation (bay leaf, garlic, peppermint, eucalyptus at 25%, 50% and 75% each) were able to form chalk and can repel the P. americana. Endemic and accessible plants namely, eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), garlic (Allium sativum), peppermint (Mentha piperita), bay leaf (Laurus nobilis) were used in this study as Periplaneta americana repellent in the form of chalk. Using a Completely Randomized Design, results revealed that the type of plant preparation and chalk formation are independent. All plant preparations repelled the P. americana. Based on the means of distances (cm) of repulsions, it was revealed that 75% Peppermint preparation has the highest repulsion mean of 80.67cm based on three trials. Hence, it is highly suggested that 75% and 50% Mentha piperita, as well as 75% Eucalyptus globulus, should be manufactured for commercial production based on the results of this study.

The seedling quality affects the plant performance in the field and proper techniques can increase the productivity of vegetables. The objective of this study was to evaluate the production of eggplant seedlings, cultivar Embu, under protected environments, containers and substrates, and its development in the field at the State University of Mato Grosso do Sul, in Aquidauana, Brazil. For seedlings production, each environment was considered an experiment, which was carried out in a completely randomized design, in split-plot scheme (containers x substrates), with eight replications. Subsequently we realized joint analysis of the experiments to compare the environments. In the field, the design was in randomized blocks using four replications. The seedlings were grown in the protected environments: greenhouse covered with polyethylene film, light diffuser, 150 micron, and nursery monofilament screen with 50% of shading (Sombrite®). Inside environments, polystyrene trays with 72 cells and 128 cells were tested. The containers were filled with six substrates, from the combination of cattle manure and cassava stems. In the field were distributed 24 treatments generated from combinations of three factors. In both environments, the best seedlings are formed in trays with 72 cells. For two trays the best seedlings are formed in the greenhouse. In greenhouse, the substrate with 80% cattle manure and 20% of cassava stems promoted better growth of seedlings. In the screened, beyond this substrate, seedlings produced in the substrate with 100% manure showed higher vigor. For all substrates, the best seedlings are formed in tray with 72 cells inside the greenhouse. In the field the combination, "greenhouse + 72 cell tray + 80% manure and 20% cassava stems" was where the plants had better growth and productivity.

Several technologies are evolving with the increasing agricultural product demand. The use of hydroponic systems appears more common, where the growing medium serves as a significant factor in determining plant growth, without available information on the use of sponges. This study is aimed at obtaining information on the potential of sponges as a hydroponic media in water spinach (<em>Ipomoea aquatica</em>), pak choi (<em>Brassica rapa</em>) and kale (<em>Brassica oleracea</em>). The method used was a completely randomized design with three replications and the treatment comprised of three growing media types, termed sponges, local and imported rockwool. The result showed an improvement in the growth of water spinach and pak choi in sponges, compared to local and imported rockwool. Furthermore, kale was known to develop more extensively on the entire media but varied insignificantly in kale.

The low yield of rice in thick peat can be overcome by provisioning complete nutrients. Various efforts have been made to increase the productivity of Indonesian peatlands, one of which is by adding salted fish waste and cow manure. This research was carried out on a plastic house scale from October 2017 to January 15, 2018, in Pelalawan District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau. This research was arranged in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), consisting of eight treatments, namely L0 = Control, L1 = 1.5 ton.ha-1 of fish waste, L2 = 2.25 ton.ha-1 of fish waste, L3 = 7 tons/ha of cow manure, L4 = 15 ton.ha-1 of cow manure, L5 = 1.5 ton.ha-1 of fish waste + 7 ton.ha-1 of cow manure, L6 = 1.5 ton.ha-1 of fish waste + 15 ton.ha-1 of cow manure, L7 = 2. 25 ton.ha-1 of fish waste + 7 ton.ha-1 of cow manure, and L8 = 2.25 ton.ha-1 of fish waste + 15 ton.ha-1 of cow manure. The results showed that the application of cow manure and salted fish waste could increase soil pH, total NPK, and NPK uptake. The application of 2.25 tons/ha of fish waste and 15 tons/ha of cow manure resulted the best results in soil pH, total NPK, and NPK uptake, therefore it is recommended for the cultivation of lowland rice on peat soil.

Two trials were conducted to evaluate the voluntary intake and digestibility of kochia (Kochia scoparia) as hay or silage for sheep. In Trial 1, kochia (KOC) hay substituted for alfalfa hay (AA) at 0, 25, 50 or 75% of complete diets, or 50% AA or 50% KOC with barley (BAR) were fed to 24 mature wethers in a completely randomized design experiment. As the level of KOC in the diet increased, dry matter intake (DMI) of wethers decreased linearly. There were no differences (P > 0.05) in dry matter or fiber digestibilities among the four diets containing AA and KOC hay. Nitrogen and gross energy digestibilities increased linearly (P < 0.05) with decreasing levels of dietary KOC. In trial 2, KOC silage prepared from two ecotypes of KOC (southern and northern), cut at two different dates and fed in a 50:50 combination with AA silage were compared with a diet containing AA silage. DMI and nutrient digestibilities of the AA silage diet were higher (P < 0.05) than those for the diets containing KOC. Results indicate that KOC hay can be fed in high forage or concentrate diets at levels between 25 and 50% of the diet without adverse effects on intake or digestibility. Results also demonstrate that KOC can be preserved by ensiling and that KOC silage can be used in combination with AA silage in diets for sheep. Key words: Kochia, sheep, digestibility, hay, silage

AbstractCountries in transition, such as Serbia, have been going through obligatory system reforms, including the reform of the healthcare system. As a rule, occupational health becomes marginalized by the authorities who decide on medical care. In spite of the fact that this branch of medicine cares for working population that mostly carries the burden of transition, when material situation equals the existential minimum, its potentials are not recognized. On the other hand, the World Health Organization makes a remark that such population’s health is undermined now more than ever, and adopts a binding global plan for member countries and their experts in occupational health to take urgent measures for overall working people’s health according to their needs. It seems that former work method of biomedicine specialists could not realize such ambition. This paper discusses the possibilities of occupational health future orientation toward holistic medicine, for the sake of workers’ well-being and better quality of their lives, then creation of more humane society and vocational affirmation. Health promotion at workplace and salutogenic concept may have crucial roles. This concept is a huge challenge for academic public and vocational practitioners in poor countries in transition that are already burdened with the current economic and financial crisis. Each in their own way, helped by self-education and education, without big material investments, together they may take their countries to the road of health, the road still rarely taken, yet more secure.
