Science has not yet written the last word when it comes to the complexity of the work and personality of Peter II Petrovic Njegos. His existence marked a short segment of Montenegrin history (1813-1851), but he established himself as an inviolable beacon of Montenegrin and South Slavic cultural heritage. The cultural-memorial reflection of Njegoš's oeuvre must include considerations at various levels. It embraces the role that his texts and political activity play in the formation of the national tradition, the relation of fictional discourse to the national past, the relation of the literary text to the cultural constructions of national identity, consideration of the representational role of the literary text as a constitutive part of the culture as a whole, problems of critical and historical literary canonization, etc. On the one hand, interpretation of Njegoš's legacy allows us to get a complete picture of the peculiarities of his poetic code. On the other hand, it enables us to see his work as a cultural-memory matrix without which it is impossible to imagine the coordinates of Montenegrin cultural identity. Within such research, the uniqueness of what was said gains its entire meaning through a network of attitudes towards language, tradition, ideology. On the intersections of these networks are projected many symbols fused into a matrix of timeless paradigms, i.e., all ethical, aesthetic, poetic categories and identity patterns contained in the whole of Njegoš's legacy. Although each of Njegoš's texts represents an ideologically and thematically independent semantic whole, by carefully reading his entire legacy, we come across intersection points, which opens the possibility of chaining the meaning and expanding the reference planes of the semantic constituents of the text.

The history of mnemonic concepts encompasses utopian and sceptical views that produce either a hypertrophic memory or denounce any representation as false. Each literary text incorporates or stores other texts, thus mnemonic space unfolds between and within texts. In storing and accumulating cultural data, the literary text in its intertextual dimension functions as part of cultural memory. A fantastic text points to a silenced repressed memory, confronting culture with its oblivion. Yet the fantastic in restoring the displaced and vanished parts of culture is not merely a mnemonic memory: its speculative potential strives for arbitrary creations that erase the accepted mnemonic imagery.

This article is dedicated to the analysis of objective and subjective nature of translation transformations. The research relies on the biographical novels “Anastasia: The Riddle of Anna Anderson” and “Isadora: A Sensational Life” by Peter Kurth and their translations into the Russian language. Research methodology employs the methods of descriptive and comparative analysis. The goal lies in examination of the various types of translation modifications (substitution, inversion, addition, and omission) for determining the inevitable changes in the sentences with syntactic structure on the one hand, and the results of individual approach of the  translators fluent in Russian and English on the other hand. The novelty consists in the analysis of syntactic modifications, taking into account various extralinguistic factors within the framework of a particular genre of fiction literature – biographical novel characterized by a special degree of expressiveness. In is established that in literary translation all transformations can be divided into two groups: objective and subjective. Objective transformations are the result of differences in the formal and semantic systems of the English and Russian languages, while subjective modifications help to express the degree of likelihood of the event, as well as the emotional state or attitude of the characters to the events, people, or things. The acquired conclusions contribute to further study of the role of syntactic transformations in the literary translation from English into Russian, as well as can be used in preparation of specialists who study English at the lectures and seminars on the relevant topics of emotive syntax and literary translation.

<p><em>Textile in the life of the Savu is not only understood as a work of art but as a marker of the Sabu genealogical identity which is divided into two. Hubi ae is for sister's bloodline while hubi is for sister's bloodline. This is where the role of patterns and compositions (motifs) in woven fabrics. Sabu people can find out the origin of the users of woven cloth simply by looking at the motives that exist in the weaving that is used. The purpose of this writing is to explore the understanding of the younger generation of diaspora methamphetamine about their eating of motifs in the woven fabric of Sabu in Kupang City. The author uses qualitative research methods by conducting interviews with young gerenasi, parents, traditional leaders who live in the city of Kupang. Based on the data obtained, the authors found that cultural memory in the narrative of woven cloth as an identity is not interpreted as it should be due to the influence of globalization and the crisis of cultural identity. The author also sees that the government has enacted policies in dealing with an identity crisis, such as the use of woven cloth on certain days and empowering weavers in the regions. The author also proposes several efforts that must be carried out by the government that responds to the needs of the younger generation that are synonymous with technological developments such as making official websites for access to accurate and valid information</em><em>.</em></p><p><strong>Keywords: </strong><em>Young Generation; Globalization; Cultural Identity; Cultural Memory; Textile.</em><strong></strong></p><h2> </h2><p><strong>Abstrak</strong></p><p>Tekstil dalam kehidupan orang Sabu tidak hanya dipahami sebagai sebuah karya seni melainkan sebagai penanda identitas genealogis orang Sabu yang terbagai dua.  Hubi ae untuk garis keturunan kakak sedangkan hubi iki untuk garis keturunan adik. Disinilah peran dari pola dan komposisi (motif) dalam kain tenunan. Orang Sabu dapat mengetahui asal dari pemakai kain tenun cukup dengan melihat motif yang ada dalam tenun yang digunakan. Penulisan ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi pemahaman generasi muda sabu diaspora mengenai pemakanaan mereka terhadap simbol motif dalam kain tenunan Sabu di Kota Kupang. Penulis menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif dengan melakukan wawancara kepada gerenasi muda, orang tua, tokoh adat yang tinggal di kota Kupang. Berdasarkan data yang diperoleh, penulis menemukan bahwa memori budaya dalam narasi kain tenun sebagai identitas tidak dimaknai sebagaimana seharusnya disebabkan karena pengaruh globalisasi dan krisis identitas budaya. Penulis juga melihat bahwa pemerintah telah memberlakukan kebijakan-kebijakan dalam menghadapi krisis identitas, seperti pemakaian kain tenun pada hari-hari tertentu dan memberdayakan para penenun di daerah-daerah. Penulis juga mengusulkan beberapa upaya yang harus dilakukan pemrintah yang menjawab kebutuhan generasi muda yang identik dengan perkembangan teknologi seperti pembuatan website resmi untuk akses informasi yang akurat dan valid.<em></em></p><p><strong>Kata kunci :</strong><strong> </strong>Generasi Muda; Globalisasi; Identitas Kultural; Memori Budaya; Tekstil.<strong><em></em></strong></p>

Abstract This paper examines the determinant factors motivating language choice in churches in coastal Accra, an area characterized by a high degree of urbanization and multilingualism. As this region is also ethnically Gã, we survey the attitudes of Gã congregants to the use of other languages in their churches, bearing in mind the pressure faced by Gã from the more dominant vehicular languages, Akan and English. Data was obtained via participant observation, questionnaires and interviews. Using domain analysis, we show that language choice in the church domain is guided by the diametric principles of inclusiveness and church expansion on the one hand, and the conservation of a homogeneous socio-cultural identity on the other. Multilingual churches espouse the former while monolingual churches prize the latter. Gã congregants in churches that make extensive use of Akan and English report feeling satisfied with the language choices in their churches as they see these lingua francas as necessary for reaching out to the wider community. Although in other spheres of life there is irritation among Gã natives about the diminishing role of their language, in the church domain, this is readily tolerated for the greater good of advancing the church’s work.

AbstractAn aspect of the local/global binarism in music regards the cultural identity of the sounds, musical styles and grammars of a composition. This article intends to explore the role of the local/global issue in the context of the semantic dimension of sounds, both during the composition of a musical piece and during its reception.In the first part of the article the local or global identity of a sonic event will be examined from two different perspectives: on the one hand that of the composer, starting from his or her attitudes with regard to the semantic aspects of the sonic material and the compositional processes used; on the other hand that of the listener, starting from the cognitive processes (s)he activates in the search for a musical and an extramusical meaning. Based on this analysis, in the second part of the article the usefulness of describing the cultural identity of a sonic event and more generally its semantic dimensions in terms of ‘shared connotations’ will be explored. Finally, some of the interactions between connoted sonic events will be analysed, mainly focusing on global and local cultural identities.

This chapter examines the role of nurturance in Gregory of Nyssa’s understanding of the progressive perfection of the soul. Reflecting the social ideology of his time—in which maternity and breastfeeding functioned as indexes for social legitimacy and the transfer of cultural identity—Gregory regularly emphasizes the symbolic power of nourishment in the formation of the soul. Throughout his work, milk is described as a transformative meal, a form of subsistence that is the essence of salvation and the way toward perfection. The chapter begins with a comparison of Gregory’s Encomium on Saint Basil and the Life of Moses in order to demonstrate how these texts emphasize the maternal food given to an infant as the foundation of and guarantor for later intellectual prowess and social position. The chapter turns next to the Homilies on the Song of Songs and the ways in which maternity, infancy, and breastfeeding enable the various transformations of the soul that take place throughout Gregory’s interpretation. For Gregory, the Song of Songs is an itinerary of trophic mutations premised on the assumption that all food contains an essence that perfects the one who eats it.

The scientific research was realised on the basis of the existential and psychological novel of V. Domontovych «Doctor Seraphicus». The compositional structure of the literary text was examined by marking the distinction of main types of a speech – the one of the author and the one of the character. It is emphasized that the author’s point of view is most complete and explicitly manifested in the author’s proper speech, which plays a leading role in the formation of the concept of a work, characterized by evaluativity and modality. The principal approaches to the definition of the notion «author’s speech» from the perspective of psychology and linguistics were named. Since the complex functional textual speech unities – descriptions, narrations, reflections structure the author’s opinion, regulate its development and ensure its integrity and completeness, then, the role of each compositional speech form in interpreting the novel’s idea was established and revealed (presentation of the macrocosm and the microcosm of a man, transfer of the temporal sequence and conditionality, reflection of the author’s world perception). The special attention was paid to the form of reflection as a generalized representation of the author’s point of view which is universal and autonomous. The lexical-semantic, structural-syntactic and functional-stylistic features of compositional speech forms are analyzed in this work.

AbstractMany studies that deal with the Lives of the Philosophers and Sophists of Eunapius conclude that the Platonist philosophers portrayed in this collective biography avoided the general public and civic life of the cities. As a result, Eunapius is said to favour the philosophical retreat (anachoresis) from society and political activity. A close reading, however, shows that Eunapius quite subtly even criticizes this avoidance of the limelight. While acknowledging the central importance of contemplation, he argues that it is a crucial aspect of the pagan identity that philosophers use their teaching positions to reach out for potential future intellectuals and uneducated laymen alike. This almost missionary role of the philosopher in society is motivated by the growing importance of imperial Christianity on the one hand, and by an ethics of philanthropy on the other. It is the intention of Eunapius to substitute a tendency to escape from the world for a type of social behaviour that is reminiscent of Socrates.

This article investigates the role of relational motives in the saying-is-believing effect ( Higgins & Rholes, 1978 ). Building on shared reality theory, we expected this effect to be most likely when communicators were motivated to “get along” with the audience. In the current study, participants were asked to describe an ambiguous target to an audience who either liked or disliked the target. The audience had been previously evaluated as a desirable vs. undesirable communication partner. Only participants who communicated with a desirable audience tuned their messages to suit their audience’s attitude toward the target. In line with predictions, they also displayed an audience-congruent memory bias in later recall.

Summary1. The role of two clot promoting fractions isolated from either plasma or serum is studied in a purified system for the generation of intermediate product I in which the serum is replaced by factor X and the investigated fractions.2. Optimal generation of intermediate product I is possible in the purified system utilizing fractions devoid of factor IX one-stage activity. Prothrombin and thrombin are not necessary in this system.3. The fraction containing factor IX or its precursor, no measurable activity by the one-stage assay method, controls the yield of intermediate product I. No similar fraction can be isolated from haemophilia B plasma or serum.4. The Hageman factor — PTA fraction shortens the lag phase of intermediate product I formation and has no influence on the yield. This fraction can also be prepared from haemophilia B plasma or serum.
