The article describes the current state of the domestic oil and gas industry. The volume of crude oil and natural gas production in the oil and gas industry is analyzed. The analysis of the gross output of natural gas and oil production, including gas condensate by region, is given and carried out. The number of employees in the main activity is given. The average monthly salary of employees in the main activity of the industry is determined.

Gas Purchase Contracts, like all other contracts in the oil and gas industry, are constantly in the process of evolution and there are many existing forms of Gas Purchase Contracts. This article consists of comparative analysis of the provisions of four Gas Purchase Contracts in use in the natural gas indus try. The article commences with discussion of clause that has only recent ly been included in Gas Purchase Contracts in Western Canada, the prepay ment clause, indicates possible income tax problems arising out of the clause and considers provisions with respect to repayment of the prepayment. The article then discusses the most favoured nations clause and points out that it is important to determine the extent of the applicability of the clause to the provisions of subsequent contract. The article concludes with an analy sis of the remaining clauses in typical Gas Purchase Contract.

The demand for crude oil and natural gas is constantly increasing. To keep up with this demand the oil and gas industry must spend vast sums of. money· to find new petroleum deposits to replenish the depleted reserves. Conventional financing techniques are used to finance the transportation, refining and marketing operations of the oil and gas industry, but the financing of oil and gas exploration and production requires special techniques. This paper discusses the common methods of financing the production end of the Canadian oil and gas industry.

The characteristics of good energy company borrowers are strong management, integrity, diversification, flexibility, a sound financial basis and business acumen. Acceptable reasons for borrowing include requirements for working capital, plant expansion, modernisation, oil and gas field development and the manufacturing of oil tools and related products. Security for loans is based on the company's reserves, the duration of the debt and priority over other indebtedness. Most loans are evaluated on the grounds of general corporate credit, that is, the overall credit standing of the borrower.
