Background – digitalization in eastern European medical education is a stringent need of teaching and assessment processes, which must be updated to challenges continuously launched by medical students. In this context, our university implemented an e-learning and e-assessment system in histology, a preclinical education subject. Aim – to evaluate the impact of replacing a classic learning and assessment methods with a completely digitized one. Methodology – the new system impact on students’ skills and teacher’s performance, was evaluated by using an opinion pool questionnaire including as assessment criteria system compliance, student-teacher interaction, online access improvement and new facilities regarding e-assessment and time management was performed. Results – “computer gaming” was delightful for students. Management of information’s given to students was improved by a higher standardization and this, helped them to pass evaluations easier. Better stress management of examination induced the increase of attendance to first presentation. Graduation percentage and students’ confidence in the accuracy of the exam results were improved. Time for evaluation was significantly reduced giving to teachers the opportunity for a better management of their time dedicated to research or academic development. Teaching and exam module software was periodically updated, being adapted to our curriculum. Conclusions – e-learning and e-assessment had a quick positive impact on students and teacher’s despite of controversial issues which commonly come with any change

The primary objective of the article is to examine the nexus between inflation, R&D, patents, and economic growth within a group of Central and Eastern European countries (CEECs). The examination is conducted in two parts. First, the impact of total R&D expenditures on economic growth is observed, as well as the influence of growth on private and public R&D investments. Second, the conversion from private and public R&D investment to innovation, measured by the number of patents, is observed. Throughout the analysis, economic growth and inflation are representative of macroeconomic stability. The outcomes of the panel auto-regressive distributed lag estimation indicate that total R&D expenditures are essential and positively significant for economic growth in the observed countries. The results also show that output growth has a remarkably positive impact on generating private R&D expenditures. Such an influence is also found, but at a weaker level, in the case of public R&D expenditures. In this part of the analysis, inflation has demonstrated a harmful influence on R&D expenditures. The results of the second part indicate that public and private R&D expenditures, at a significant level, generate innovation activities, while the impact of inflation has proven to be unimportant.

Educational systems across the globe were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and faculty, staff, and students had to rapidly transition to e-learning platforms. These groups had little preparation to cope with the challenges of this newly adopted system. However, as we begin to emerge from the COVID-19 era, efforts are being made to assess the impact of this transition and develop a framework of best practices to help educators prepare for possible future disruptions. This commentary aims to discuss some of the challenges associated with the rapid transition to the new academic environment, including the modes of instruction employed, technical obstacles encountered, student responses to change and efforts made to evaluate didactic and practical aspects of the curriculum in the contexts of premedical and medical education, at the newly established College of Medicine at Khalifa University of Science and Technology in the United Arab Emirates.

China's economy has achieved rapid growth, but the change has also brought about serious environmental degradation, which is the main factor endangering human health. This study empirically investigates the impact of the population health environmental index on the promotion of provincial governors using an ordered probit model. The sample of the study consists of regions where provincial governors, municipal mayors, and autonomous region chairmen were stationed from 1995 to 2015. The results show that the population health environmental index had a significant and positive impact on governors' promotions, especially in the eastern region. The reformation of the population health environmental index assessment system for government officials was the initial factor that brought about these effects.

Abstract The strengthening of psychological assessment in Brazil in the twenty-first century can be understood as a result of the foundation of Psychological Test Evaluation System (SATEPSI, its Portuguese acronym) by Resolution 02/2003 of the Federal Council of Psychology. In this sense, the present study aimed to describe the impact of SATEPSI for research in the area. A survey of Brazilian researchers' publications was conducted in two periods in SciELO and BVS-Psi databases - 1993-2002 and 2003-2014 - using the terms "psychological evaluation", "psychological tests" and "construction / adaptation of psychological instruments". Overall, the results point to the positive impact of SATEPSI for the area of psychological assessment. It was observed an increasing in quantity and quality of publications, as well as a greater variety of psychological tests used in different contexts. It can be concluded that the pursued goals of the Resolution 02/2003 were mostly achieved.

INTRODUCTION: The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic affected the educational models offered in medical courses. In this context, with the authorization to offer courses remotely, there is an unprecedented acceleration in the migration from the traditional model to the eLearning model, which was already occurring gradually in the Brazilian higher education system. Due to the social isolation to face the crisis, this model is being applied in full in many Higher-educational institutions (HEIs) in the country and may have repercussions on methodological changes in medical education. OBJECTIVES: To discuss the impact of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic on medical education, analyzing the migration to eLearning Modality. METHOD: A reflection was made from management meetings at two private universities based on the authors' experience in medical education management. RESULTS: The global pandemic context has impacted teaching within the scope of students, professors, and HEIs. The high investments in the migration of the teaching model and the high dropout rate have impacted the suspension of contracts for teachers from private HEIs. The inequality of technological access, unsuitable environments, and the poor quality of telephony/internet in the country can impact on academic performance. CONCLUSIONS: It is undeniable that medical education is suffering a profound transformation by this global health crisis. However, it is too early to say with certainty the size of this impact. In the future, it will be necessary to adapt the concept of evidence-based medical education to assess the practical repercussions of this pandemic in medical education.

Abstract Background The emergence of COVID-19 raises the opportunity to reimagine medical education. One way of attempting this is online classes, also known as e-learning, through recordings and or live streaming. The purpose of this research is to ascertain the effectiveness of using the e-learning instructional methodology for a Pediatric module with the fourth year MBBS students at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi. Methods It was a sequential (Quantitative-Qualitative) mixed-method study. The quantitative component of the study consisted of pre and post-tests, as well as feedback on each session. The qualitative component was composed of focused-group discussions to explore students' experiences. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 20.0. Mean ±SD was reported for quantitative variables, and frequency and percentages were calculated for nominal variables. The pre and post-test scores were compared using a paired t-test. Pre and post mean test scores were analyzed in comparison to the level of student groups (Experts, Semi-experts, and Novice) by one-way ANOVA. For qualitative content analysis, categories were clumped together to yield sub-themes that were further merged into themes.Results All students (n= 102) participated and enrolled in this study. Fifty-nine participants (68.8%) were female. Participants were stratified into three groups, Novice 41(40.2%), Semi-expert 21 (19.6%), and Expert 40 (39.2%). The majority of the students appreciated the session structure and facilitation. There was a significant effect (p<0.005) on knowledge enhancement during each session, depicted by the improvement in post-test scores. It was also supported by the positive association (r=0.242 to 0.595) between the gain in knowledge and each session held. The ANOVA yielded no statistical significance between the knowledge gained among the three group levels, denoting that our online module had been proven successful in achieving the same learning goals as an in-person rotation.Conclusion E-learning is an effective way of continuing the process of delivering medical education, especially in unprecedented times. Technological enhancements will help carry the impact forward as a blended-learning pedagogical approach in undergraduate medical education.

The purpose of this study was answering questions regarding the impact of effectively using information and communication technologies (ICTs) in classrooms on re-envisioning and restructuring e-learning through engagement with schools in underprivileged communities. Its importance is justified regarding positioning disrupted pupils' education towards the development agenda in South Africa. It draws on the latest findings and is located within relevant conceptual/theoretical frameworks on ICTs for teaching and learning. In quantitative aspects of the research design, issues of reliability and validity were considered, while in qualitative aspects, issues of dependability and interpretation were important. Results presented showed that laptops, smartboards, projectors, cell phones, desktops, printers, and iPads were used effectively in classrooms. A discussion of the results suggests solutions and making recommendations that are applicable and useful. In conclusion, ICTs had a positive impact on pupils' education, by helping them to concentrate and understand difficult concepts.

Abstract The goal of this paper is to identify the main criteria based on which e-Learning is used in organizational development with positive impact on business performance. Globalization has led to a multitude of changing markets, including learning and education. While quality production systems are implemented based on imposed standards, the business knowledge of employees varies in each country, mirroring the education system provided locally. The results are individually different knowledge gaps which challenged the learning industry to develop new strategies embedded in e-learning solutions. Major contribution to theory and practice on combining vision and spoken learning is brought by the work of psychologists and professors of education (Allen, 2012; Mayer, 2009; Hattie, 2009). Their innovations offered solutions for easy access to knowledge and implementation methods, as well as the documentation of the inclusion of videos in e-learning modules (Halls, 2012), offering teachers and trainers the possibility to create a live experience to trainees engaged in e-learning programs. This paper is based on data collected internationally and our empirical research undertaken in Romania, which is Europe’s main cluster for various production industries and world’s second for IT. Based on a questionnaire, we interviewed 18 multinational companies which perform parts of their business activities in Romania. Research results show that with the implementation of an effective e-learning strategy a 40-60% cost reduction, a complete measurability of the learning process and a standardized input and outcome of trainings has been achieved. This paper aims to highlight the impact of e-learning applied for business trainings within global developing companies. This study may be applicable to state education and thus could help to reduce the gap between local education and global expectations.
