The climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) is an economically valuable freshwater fish. Relatively slow growth has been a challenge in the domestication of this species in Indonesia. Nutrition, including feed lipid content, is one factor affecting growth. This study examined the effect of enriching feed with fish oil on the growth and survival of climbing perch (A. testudineus) fingerlings. The research was carried out at the Water Quality and Aquatic Biology Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Fisheries, Tadulako University, Palu, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia from 17 December to 18 January 2020. A completely randomized design (CRD) was used with 4 treatments and 5 replicates. The fish oil feed enrichment treatments were: A (control, 0%); B (1%); C (2%) and D (3%). Water quality remained within the optimum range throughout the research period. Over the month, climbing perch absolute weight gain ranged from 2.4±0.981 g (A) to 3.4 ± 0.836 g (D), while growth in length ranged from 0.404±0.092 cm (A) to 0.504±0.071 cm (D); however, the differences were not statistically significant (P0.05). The survival rate of climbing perch over the one month study period was 100% under all treatments, indicating that basic nutritional needs were met. Enrichment of a commercial feed with fish oil (Scott’s emulsion) at rates of 1-3% did not provide a significant benefit in terns of climbing perch fingerling growth.

The thyroxine has been known as a hormone that can increase fish growth especially in the larvae stage. The provision of hormone thyroxine on larvae fish can be conducted through dipping. Determination of dipping time are very important to increase growth. The purposes of this research are determining the optimum dipping time for the growth and survival rate of snakehead larvae. This research was done at Laboratorium Dasar Perikanan, Aquaculture, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Sriwijaya, Indralaya. The method used Competely Randomized Design (RAL) with five treatments and three replicates, with dipping time are 24, 27, 30, 33 and 36 hours. The parameters observed are the absolute length growth, absolute weight growth, survival rate of larvae and water quality (temperature, pH and disolved oxygen). The results showed that the duration of immersion in thyroxine hormone solution in snakehead larvae showed relatively faster growth on treatment (P5) with 36 hours of dipping time. While the regression test result showed the optimal growth of snakehead larvae at the time immersion for 27,92 – 29,49 hours. Thyroxine hormone increased the growth of snakehead larvae but has no statistically significant effect. The length of time of thyroxine hormone 24-36 hours with a dosage of 0.1 mg l-1 did not affect the survival of snakehead larvae. Water quality of maintenance media is still tolerance for supporting the growth and survival of snakehead larvae.

As one of fish commodity, Catfish (Pangasius pangasius) has a very important economic value for the community. The time needed for catfish cultivation tends to be long and the price of feed is high so that it triggers the less optimal production of catfish. One way to maximize good production and with minimized time is by adding multivitamin probiotics to the feed. This research aims to analyze the optimal dose of probiotics to the growth and survival rate of catfish . Method used is Complete Randomized Design Design (CRDD) using 4 treatments of probiotic doses and 3 replicates. The treatments are A Control (0.00 ml/kg), B (10 ml/kg), C (15 ml/kg), and D (20 ml/kg). Absolute weight, absolute length, and survival of catfish are the main variables observed. The data were analyzed by using the analysis of variance and continued with the LSD test (the Least Significant Difference), Ü = 0.05. The optimal dose of probiotics based on the absolute length and absolute weight of catfish is 10 ml/kg and it produces an absolute weight of 5.27 gram and absolute length of 5.76 cm. The optimal daily specific growth rate is at the probiotics dose of 10 ml/kg which is 2.302.55%/day. The highest survival rate for catfish is 100% at probiotic doses of 0.000 ml/kg, 10 ml/kg and 15 ml/kg. The range of water quality is in the temperature of 27.5 – 28,90C, pH 6.79 - 7.88, DO 6.4 - 7.9 ppm, and ammonia 0 ppm.
