The purpose of this qualitative research is to examine what problems are faced by EFL Colleges Learners in speaking English especially at IAIN Metro, Lampung. The researcher took the fourth semester at English Department of IAIN Metro as the subject. The total numbers of the subjects were ten (10) students.  The researcher interviewed the students to find out about the EFL collages learners difficulties in speaking skill. The findings showed that there are four important themes which emerged in this study, namely (1) the students are lack of Vocabularies, (2) The grammar is not well mastered by the students, (3) the students are afraid of negative responses from others, and (4) the students have low self-confidence in speaking English.

This study aims to find out students’ perception of English meeting club to support their speaking skill. English meeting club was a club or group of humans with common ambitions or interests in English. This study focused on the students’ perception of English meeting club to support their speaking skill. The subject of this study are 10 students of English department as participants. This study used a qualitative method, this study used interview as research instrument. The result of interviews, the majority of the students had positive perception about joined in English club. The student absolutely believes if English club could support them to speak English fluently. The student also had a perception through an English meeting club as a media to develop skills particularly in speaking, it could be one of the alternatives for those who need to learn and practice more about how to speak English well and it can also enhance their ability to speak English fluently.

This research intends to know and describe how the group's guidance in social interaction at Yayasan Adi Nugraha Boyolali. The type of research used is qualitative research. Penelitin sees, observations, collects and interprets the data in the field as it is to then draw conclusions. The subject in this study was the chairman of Yayasan Adi Nugraha Boyolali, 2 guiding teachers and two deaf children. Data collection techniques using interviews and observations. Data analysis methods used are data reduction, data presentation and withdrawal of conclusions. Validity of data using source trianggulation. The results of this study showed that the process of mentoring child groups will be given motivation so that the child is always positive thinking, foster self-confidence and way of interacting socially with normal children. While in the process of implementing group guidance there are 4 stages, namely: the initial stage of the group, the transition phase, the activity stage, the final stage of the group.

The aims of this study were to describe the implementation of snowball throwing in teaching grammar and to investigate the benefits of applying snowball throwing. The research was conducted at STKIP Siliwangi Bandung. This study employed qualitative research involving one class consisting of second semester students in English department who were taking the subject of foundation of English grammar. The data were obtained from classroom observation and students’ interview. The findings showed that there are seven stages in implementing snowball throwing in teaching grammar. The stages consist of preparing teaching material, forming group, re-explaining the material to the member of the group, formulating question, tossing the ball, answering questions and evaluating teaching and learning process. In addition, the findings also revealed that there are some benefits from applying snowball throwing in teaching grammar such as improving of students’ comprehension in learning grammar, creating enjoyable learning’s atmosphere, increasing students’ vocabulary mastery, developing students’ speaking skill, developing of students’ cooperation skill and increasing of students’ participation in the class.   Keywords: Snowball throwing; benefits; grammar.

The purpose of this research is to find out the student’s ability in translating idiom on narrative text written by them as investigated by the researcher. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research. The subject of this research involved twenty students of fourth semester of English Department Students University Maritim Raja Ali Haji. The instrument used a test.  The test that has given is short answer, which the students are asked to find how many idioms that the student found on narrative text given by the researcher. After finding the idiom, the students were asked to translate into Indonesian with meaning correctly.  The result of this research reveals that the students’ ability to find and translated idiom is still not accurate in translation. The students’ only found a few of idioms from 20 idioms that given by the researcher which were contained on narrative text. The problem that arises when the results are analyzed is inability of students to translate with the meaning correctly so that some students translate word by word. This study analysed the implementation of classical puppet drama performance to improve students’ speaking skill in International Class Program of one of universities in Salatiga. The teaching and learning processes in drama class were(1 ) asking the students with the question, (2) designing drama project plan, (3) creating drama preparation schedules, (4) monitoring the students in preparing the drama, (5) assessing the outcome, and (6) evaluating students’ drama performance. This study was qualitative research in the form of case study. To collect the data the researcher used observation, interview, documentation, and questionnaire. The results showed that by using drama performance, students can improve their pronunciation, fluency, accuracy, handle the voice, and body language to improve their self-confidence to speak in English. Moreover, the used of 4Cs skills activities namely critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity skills in the classroom can stimulate students to improve their group work and interaction among students.

The study aims to investigate the implementation of  the technique of Reader’s Theatre in the teaching learning process of speaking class at STKIP PGRI Jombang specially at subject of Speaking for Daily Communication. Since The objective of Speaking class is to improve and develop student’s speaking skill fluently, correctly and accurately, the technique of Reader’s Theatre is offered to help students to speak English very well. Students can speak with correct vocabulary, proper pronunciation and good grammar. The subject of the research is students of English department 2017 A and B. The research method isconducted by  describing all activities on speaking for daily communication by using Reader’s Theatre. To collect the data, the researcher uses the instrument by observing the condition of the class during the technique of reader’s theatre applied. The result of the research states that Reader’s Theatre can give a possitive activity to students involved in Speaking class. A narrative inquiry as the approach of qualitative research is conducted in this research to know how the implementation of a video as a teaching media of Phonology and what the problems that the students face in using a video as the learning media of Phonology. This research involves 28 students of the second grade. The subject of research is the students of an English department in Education of UNISKA Kediri. The result is that there are four categorized problems that students face. Students felt that; (1) a native speaker in the video speaks too fast; (2) the pronunciation is unclear; (3) there are some new words or terms; (4) it is difficult to imitate the intonation and stressing of a word and sentence. However, the students can solve problems. Besides that, they get some advantages their ability in some aspects and are aware of the current issue; (1) the first is that the video is easy accessible; (2) the second one is that the video also is appropriate with the current issue so the students, beside learn about phonology, also aware of the current issue; (3) the other one is the students can learn and practice whenever with (out) the guidance of the lecturer; (4) the last advantage that we can offer is the students can listen the native speaker easily because they can play back the video when they cannot catch the word or meaning.

This research focuses on students' English speaking problems, and this research aims to find out the most dominant problem of speaking in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) situation faced by the students of English Departement at Tidar University. The research method used in this research is the qualitative method. The writer uses a questionnaire as a tool for data collection. From the questionnaire, the problems that most dominant faced by the English education students of the English Department at Tidar University is Linguistic problems. Linguistic problems include less grammar, lack of vocabulary, and poor pronunciation. The next is psychological problems include, including lack of self-confidence, anxiety, and shyness. Meanwhile, instructor related problems did not have much effect on speaking problems for the students. In conclusion, Linguistic problems are the most dominant problem faced by the English education students of the English Department at Tidar University.

<p><em>Abstrak</em><strong> - Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk melihat </strong><strong>respon </strong><strong>mahasiswa Sastra Inggris UAI dalam memahami konflik keberagaman dan pemahaman identitas budaya terkait dengan ideologi multikulturalisme melalui puisi  multikultural kesusasteraan Inggris.</strong><strong> </strong><strong>Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode <em>reader-response</em> (respon pembaca) dengan subjek penelitian yaitu mahasiswa Sastra Inggris UAI yang mengambil mata kuliah Pengkajian Puisi sebanyak 26 orang. Dengan menggunakan teori  Identitas  oleh Stuart Hall sebagai kajian multikulturalisme dan teori intrinsik puisi, penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan gambaran jelas mengenai respon mahasiswa Sastra Inggris terhadap teks-teks sastra bertema multikultural dan juga gambaran jelas sejauh mana pemahaman lintas budaya mereka. Pada akhirnya hasil ini secara garis besar menunjukkan bahwa pemahaman keberagaman, kepedulian sosial dan toleransi di kalangan mahasiswa sastra Inggris UAI belum baik karena sebanyak 53.86% responden terlihat mengalami kesulitan untuk memahami dan menginterpretasikan isi puisi serta tidak bisa mengaitkan tema puisi dengan kondisi keberagaman di kehidupan mereka sehari-hari. </strong></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><strong><em>Kata Kunci</em></strong><em> – Multikulturalisme, Identitas Budaya, Identitas Budaya, Tanggapan Pembaca</em></p><p><strong> </strong></p><p><em>Abstract</em><strong> – This research </strong><strong>is done to see the English Department students’ response in understanding cultural identity and issues of differences related to the ideology of multiculturalism through interpreting a multicultural poem in English. This research is a qualitative research implementing a reader-response method using 26 students of the English Department in UAI as the subject of research. By conducting Stuart Hall’s theory of Identity as a multiculturalism analysis and theory of Poetic devices, this research is done to give a clear perspective on the students’ response towards a multicultural theme in a literary text as well as giving view on their intercultural understanding. In the end, this research shows that overall these students’ understanding towards the issue of differences and tolerance is unsatisfying seeing that 53.86% respondents were unable to understand and interprete the poem as well as were unable to relate the theme of the poem to the condition around them in reality. </strong><strong></strong></p><p><strong><em>Keywords</em></strong><em> -<strong> </strong>Multiculturalism, Cultural Identity, Poetic Devices, Reader’s Respond, Stuart Hall</em></p>

The objectives of the research are to: (1)find out types of corrective feedback used by the lecturers in Speaking activity at the second semester of English Department Students of Universitas Riau Kepulauan Batam in the academic years of 2013/2014; and (2) find out student’s response towards the lecturer’s feedback.The research was carried out at Universitas Riau Kepulauan Batam, from March 2014 to May 2014.The subject of the research is the second semester of English Department Unrika. The researcher did observation to take the data of corrective feedback used in class and used closed questionnaire, observation, and interview to find out student’s response towards the lecturer’s feedback.Then, the data was analyzed by using triangulation. Based on the result of data analysis, it was found that the lecturer used five types of corrective feedback. Recast was the feedbackmostly used by lecturer. It was followed by repetition, metalinguistic feedback, elicitation, and explicit correction. The student’s response toward feedback given by the lecturer were mostly negative. Most of the students were not comfortable with themselves when given feedback by the lecturers. However, some of them found it was okay because it was for their own good.  Key Words: Corrective Feedback; Speaking Skill; and  Student’s Response
