The aim of this research was to motivate students by using social media to teach writing hortatory exposition text. The researcher chooses two media such us Instagram and Facebook. The application of teaching writing of hortatory exposition text at eleventh grade of SMAN 1 Ngadiluwih by using social media Instagram and Facebook to hold the interesting and enjoyable learning activity. This research was quantitative research approach, whereas the research design used true experimental. This research chosen randomly in Instagram class (social one class) and Facebook class (social two class). The instrument used in the research was writing test. The procedure lasted 4 meeting and 1 meeting to do test. The result of t-test showed that: the mean score of Instagram class (M= 68.79) is lower than Facebook class (M= 77.07), and independent sample t-test which values of the sig-2 tailed is 0.000 and 0.000<0.005. Thus, it can be concluded that Facebook is more effective than Instagram in teaching and learning English Hortatory Exposition Text.

This study aimed to investigate the use of the Learning Management System (LMS) to teach English Grammar subject in online learning during a covid-19 outbreak. This study was descriptive qualitative research with second-semester students as the subjects of the study. They were students from the English department taking Structure 2 as the compulsory subject. The data were collected by conducting a survey to 71 students who were purposely selected to know the optimization of using LMS in teaching English Grammar during the covid -19 outbreak. The questionnaire was used to do a survey. The results show that the materials uploaded in the LMS are useful to help students understand English Grammar, especially for the topic taught in the second semester. Furthermore, the use of quiz features in LMS can motivate them to learn since they can know the results and the correct answer directly from the LMS. It also can increase students' confidence when doing the same test. However, it was found that the use of LMS cannot replace the direct explanation method from the teacher which is still stated as an effective way of teaching English Grammar subjects.

Indonesia has a great opportunity to use technological developments in the current 4th industrial revolution. The opportunity is based on the fact that from the total population of Indonesia, more than half of them are active internet users. The largest group of internet users in Indonesia is at the age of students, these groups of students are in the middle to college student level. To occupy the need for technology-based learning, it is necessary to modify and have some innovations to various learning tools in learning activities. This qualitative descriptive research will discuss the use of technology-based learning media with Quizizz as an application in English learning lecturing process. This study involved students of the 1st level of accounting study program who had passed English Class at the Universitas Islam Kadiri-Kediri (UNISKA). In general, the results of the study indicate that English lecturing process using the Quizizz is a fun and effective activity so that it is expected to continue to be used in further lecturing activities.

A narrative inquiry as the approach of qualitative research is conducted in this research to know how the implementation of a video as a teaching media of Phonology and what the problems that the students face in using a video as the learning media of Phonology. This research involves 28 students of the second grade. The subject of research is the students of an English department in Education of UNISKA Kediri. The result is that there are four categorized problems that students face. Students felt that; (1) a native speaker in the video speaks too fast; (2) the pronunciation is unclear; (3) there are some new words or terms; (4) it is difficult to imitate the intonation and stressing of a word and sentence. However, the students can solve problems. Besides that, they get some advantages their ability in some aspects and are aware of the current issue; (1) the first is that the video is easy accessible; (2) the second one is that the video also is appropriate with the current issue so the students, beside learn about phonology, also aware of the current issue; (3) the other one is the students can learn and practice whenever with (out) the guidance of the lecturer; (4) the last advantage that we can offer is the students can listen the native speaker easily because they can play back the video when they cannot catch the word or meaning.

This qualitative study will investigate English Education students’ opinion towards code-switching and code-mixing; both in everyday and classroom use. In this study, it will employ an open-ended (short-answered questionnaire) with 13 questions that mainly focus students of English Education class of 2016-2018. The populations were chosen because the students of 2016-2018 have attended Sociolinguistic Course during semester 3. Moreover, to gather the population, the researcher spread the link of questionnaire written in Google Form by personally contacting several people via Whats App.  Based on the findings obtained from the questionnaire, it can be inferred that the 20 respondents mainly spoke 3 languages (national: Indonesian, local: Javanese, foreign: English). Furthermore, it can be concluded that 11 respondents find code-switching and code-mixing of national, local and foreign languages acceptable to be used in everyday life and classroom situation. On the contrary, 3 respondents also see code-switching and code-mixing of national, local and foreign languages annoying and disturbing to be implemented in daily communication. Meanwhile, 6 respondents perceive code-switching and code-mixing of national, local and foreign languages as neutral to be executed in everyday and classroom situation.    Keywords: Sociolinguistic; Code-Switching; Code-Mixing; English Education Students

Metacognitive strategy is described as a thinking strategy of gaining knowledge and comprehension by knowing what students know and what they do not know. Since college students struggle to be successful in their study, they should have an awareness of applying this strategy in learning, so it can empower them to think about their own thinking process, enhance their control over their learning, and increase their autonomy to reach the goals. Therefore, teachers should consider incorporating metacognitive strategies in designing a lesson plan. This study aims to investigate the students’ perception toward metacognitive strategies used in class. It was done in two classes in D3 English Department. The participants consist of 49 students. Data was gained from distributing questionnaire to students after metacognitive strategies was applied in the class. There are two types of data, quantitative and qualitative data. The quantitative data was analysed using descriptive analysis, the qualitative data was described in depth analysis and summarized. The results found that most of the students had positive perception toward metacognitive strategies in the class. However, they found some challenges in implementing the strategies in their study.

The aim of the study are to find Gender discrimination in Novel and acceptability quality of translation from Novel of the girls of the coast. We used methodology of research with descriptive qualitative. The results are 71,43% acceptability of translation quality with score 3 (high) and social discrimination in subordination 62,5%. The benefit of results are to develop literature of translation quality and analysis discrimination aspect in novel of the girls from the coast. The innovation of novelty are teory and guidance of translation in social and gender discrimination with quality translation.

The digital technology has equipped people especially the students with applications needed for online learning in the form of applications. However, these applications will be useless if the online learning concept is not applied in the correct way.  This research is aimed to describe qualitatively the instructional design of teaching reading online in a small class which consists of 5 students. The method of the research is qualitative research. The data collected by observing the process of learning and documenting the process. The result found that the small numbers of students is the most important aspect to make the instructional design effective. All the students were active in the online learning. The online media used were Google Meet and WhatApps Group (WAG). The Google meet was the substitution of classroom and WAG was the medium to sending the materials. The highest score for the progress test was 92 and the lowest was 78. The score indicates that the instructional design for teaching reading online in the small class is effective.   Keywords: teaching Reading, instructional design, small class

This article aimed to review the development of English Tourism subject by involving local wisdom. This article discusses about the definition of material development, the principles in material development and need analysis for material development. It also defined local wisdom as one the points in material development. The next discussion explains about the procedures of material development and discusses material development for English Tourism subject based on the local wisdom.
