Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam in general and in Binh Duong province in particular are experiencing tough competition in the context of global and regional international integration. This study aims at identifying the internal factors affecting business competitiveness of SMEs in the province of Binh Duong. The proposed research model consists of seven independent variables (market orientation, organizational capability, reward and compensation, learning organization, technological innovation, brand orientation, access to finance) and one dependent variable (SME's competitiveness). Both qualitative approach and quantitative approach were adopted. The quantitative research was conducted through a survey of 350 business owners or their representatives. There are 345 valid returned questionnaires. The methodology of framework test involves validity and reliability of measure scales test and checking of variables. In order to test the hypotheses the structural equation modeling is employed with the help of SPSS 16.0 and AMOS 21.0. The findings show that only two factors affecting the competitiveness of SMEs which are learning organization and access to finance. The results are not in line with the current literature because the other constructs like reward and compensation, technological innovation and brand orientation have no impact on SMEs' competitiveness. This can be explained by limited sample size, lack of mediating and control variables. Implications are offered on the influence of learning organization and access to finance on SMEs' competitiveness. Recommendations for future research are also developed.

The continued usage of inefficient lighting products in residential sectors is one of the major causes of the rapid growth in global energy consumption. Their replacement with highly efficient lighting appliances could avoid large amounts of electricity consumption and reduce CO2 emissions worldwide. In this regard, the collective contribution by the residential sector is extremely important and the increase in demand for energy-efficient lighting products can help achieve sustainability goals. This study aims to examine the determinants of household consumers’ behaviors in purchasing energy-saving lighting products by applying the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) as the main theoretical framework. Data (n = 288) from a survey in Thailand were analyzed using causal Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The results suggested that attitude has the largest direct effect, while subjective norm was the weakest predictor of purchase intention towards light-emitting diode (LED) products. In addition, this study expands the TPB by including an investigation of a direct effect of attitude on purchase behavior. The results suggest that attitudes have a strong direct influence on the purchasing behavior for LED products. Additionally, only some socio-demographic variables have significant effects on purchase behavior. The study’s findings highlight several implications for policymakers, the private sector, and green marketers in developing practical strategies. Furthermore, suggestions and future research directions are discussed.

This study examines the factors affecting millennials and generation Z’s purchase intention in online shopping. The variables under investigation, namely, impulse purchase orientation, quality orientation, brand orientation, online trust, and online purchase experience, were tested. The data collection approach used a web-based questionnaire that was created and distributed to 584 university students in Malaysia. Data were analyzed via the Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach to examine the posited research hypotheses. The results revealed that impulse purchase orientation was the strongest predictor of consumers’ online purchase intention in Malaysia. This is followed by online trust, and the online purchase experience and quality orientation. Meanwhile, brand orientation did not affect customers’ intention to purchase online. The results contribute new and extensive inputs into the marketing theory and expand the emergent literature on consumer intention to shop online in Malaysia, whereby rich multi-ethnic cultures should be fully exploited. Future directions are offered.

<p>As the Indonesia World Records Museum (MURI)’s 2019 winner of the category of fastest growing coffee shop in 2019, Janji Jiwa strives to maintain and increase its number of customers. This study replicates Kim and Lee's (2016) research on how coffee shops in South Korea increase their brand loyalty. It employs the purposive sampling method with 206 respondents and analysis is conducted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The findings of the study reveal that customer brand identification has a positive effect on brand involvement, but no positive effect on brand-decision involvement. Both self-congruity and service value have a positive effect on brand involvement and brand-decision involvement. In addition, brand involvement and brand-decision involvement have a positive effect on brand satisfaction and brand loyalty. Finally, brand satisfaction has a positive effect on brand loyalty. Managerial implications and recommendations related to these findings will be discussed further in order to guide future research.</p>

Purpose – With the expansion of dining out, visiting ethnic restaurants is becoming one of dominant trends worldwide. Given the fact that ethnic restaurants involve a number of peculiar elements that are not present when visiting regular “local” restaurants, the purpose of this paper is to identify the key determinants of choosing a particular ethnic-themed restaurant, as well as factors that have an impact on an ethnic restaurant’s perceived image. Design/methodology/approach – Research was done by conducting two separate studies. The first study identified factors that were generally the most significant to respondents when making a choice of an ethnic restaurant in which to dine. For the second study, a new sample of respondents – consisting of those who had just visited such an establishment – was used in order to determine which factors have the most significant impact on creating an image of ethnic restaurants. The research was therefore directed toward those restaurants where the customers can experience a unique atmosphere and ambiance that are synonymous within a given culture. Findings – The results obtained from the first study show that quality of food and price are the two most significant factors that determine which restaurant will be visited. On the other hand, the interior and exterior ranked as the two least important factors. In addition, the second study revealed that following the visit, the strongest impact on the restaurant’s image was its interior. Following interior, service quality surfaced as the most important antecedent of perceived image, while the impacts of price and exterior were weaker, but still statistically significant. Research limitations/implications – The study itself was done in two stages. In the first stage the analytical hierarchical process (AHP) model was used for ranking factors significant for choosing an ethnic restaurant, while in the second stage, structural equation modeling (SEM) model was used to identify triggers of perceived image after a visit to an ethnic restaurant. Future research should utilize both models to determine antecedents of the variables used. Apart from this, it is recommended to employ new variables that further explore the uniqueness of the ethnic restaurants. Originality/value – One of the main contributions of this work is related to combining of the AHP and SEM models, with the objective of completing a comparative results analysis, identifying in the process the positive aspects of both models and building a foundation for their coordination in terms of future use. This is significant, given that only a few prior studies have used such synergy.

Coopetition is a revolutionary mindset that combines competition and cooperation. This paper aims to determine and to explore the critical factors affecting contractors’ coopetition relationship (CR) in international construction projects (ICPs). In order to improve CR between international contractors in ICPs, a comprehensive literature review was performed to identify the potential variables affecting the CR. A questionnaire survey of 151 professionals in both academia and industry, which included 53 variables, was conducted to explore the critical factors affecting international contractors’ CR in ICPs. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was employed to evaluate the multivariate interrelationships among those variables. As a result, nine underlying factors, including six internal factors and three external factors, were extracted and interpreted. The findings can help international contractors to understand more accurately how the coopetition relationship between contractors is affected and can provide a basis for follow-up research on how to evaluate the coopetition status of contractors and the coopetition strategies adopted in ICPs.

Today, social media opens up multiple options to add a new channel to learn and obtain knowledge. In particular, social media allows users to learn formal and informal social settings. Users can find like-minded people or community and organize knowledge exchange for educational or other purposes. This paper takes the theory of social network and social capital as the core factors to explore social media community members how to use social media platform to exchange knowledge. The paper uses social network and social capital as predictors of knowledge exchange so that we can use social media as a way to advance knowledge exchange ceaselessly. Therefore, there were 263 members of well-known social media community of knowledge exchange filling out the questionnaires completely, and then evaluated with structural equation modeling, and confirmatory factor analysis was also applied, using SmartPLS 2.0, to test if the empirical data conform to the proposed model. However, results also imply that social capital and social network distinctly play the important part of affecting knowledge exchange and communication about social issues on social media community goes hand in hand with knowledge exchange. Finally, this article proposes implications for theory and practice on the current and future research.

Abstract. Previous research established that an independent construal of the self is associated with higher self-esteem, which, in turn, is associated with increased happiness. Regarding the directionality of these relationships, theoretical arguments have suggested that self-construal precedes self-esteem and that self-esteem precedes happiness. However, most research in this area is cross-sectional, thus limiting any conclusions about directionality. The present study tested these relationships in 101 Romanian undergraduates using a 3-wave cross-lagged design with a 6-month time lag between every two waves. Structural equation modeling analyses revealed that self-esteem is an antecedent of both happiness and dimensions of independent self-construal (i.e., consistency vs. variability and self-expression vs. harmony). In other words, one’s positive evaluation of self-worth precedes one’s self-perception as being a happy and independent person. The findings are discussed with respect to the theoretical and practical implications, along with limitations and suggestions for future research.

The present study examined conceptual issues surrounding celebrity worship in a Malay-speaking population. In total, 512 Malay and 269 Chinese participants from Malaysia indicated who their favorite celebrity was and completed the Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) as well as a range of demographic items. Results showed that the majority of Malay and Chinese participants selected pop stars and movie stars as their favourite celebrities, mirroring findings in Western settings. In addition, exploratory factor analysis revealed a three-factor solution of the CAS that was consistent with previous studies conducted in the West. Structural equation modeling further revealed that participant’s age was negatively associated with celebrity worship and that self-rated attractiveness was positively associated with celebrity worship. Overall, the present results suggest that celebrity worship in Malaysia may be driven by market and media forces, and future research may well be guided by use of the CAS.

This study seeks to help fill an important gap in the literature by investigating factors that have facilitated the use of management accounting practices (MAPs) in Vietnam - a transitional economy. Data were collected from 220 medium-to-large enterprises. Follow-up interviews were conducted with 20 accounting heads/vice heads to obtain further information and clarification. The quantitative data collected was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics (including t-tests and structural equation modeling), while the qualitative data was used to shed further light on the various relationships described by the quantitative analysis. This paper reveals that both decentralization and competition have a positive, significant influence on the use of new MAPs except for the old ones. Consequently, the use of MAPs has a positive, significant influence on enterprise performance.
