Padang Karunia Group received a lot of inputs from its employees for improvement collected manually by an administrator. The more input from employees, the more difficult to be collected manually. Therefore Padang Karunia Group took the initiative to create an intranet application to save the inputs in a database. Based on this problem, a research is done to develop database applications in the form of dashboard to collect criticisms and suggestions of employees over the web. This application is expected to assist and facilitate the management of the company, especially in the gathering criticism and suggestions from employees who are then evaluated for company improvement. We uses the database design method based on database application lifecycle, including requirements collection and analysis, conceptual database design, logical database design, DBMS selection, physical database design, and implementation. The results achieved are a database design anda web-based dashboard application that collects criticisms and suggestions. The advantage of using this application is that the company can easily accept criticism and suggestions from employees, simplify storage and data management criticism and suggestions, create reports, and reduce the cost of data collection and the process that was previously done manually. Through the database created, the data management of criticisms and suggestions of employees can be done better.

Traditionally management schools of thought that emphasize certain types of work structures usually appear earlier than information technologies (IT) geared at supporting those work structures. This situation has undoubtedly changed recently, arguably around the mid-1990s, with the explosion in the commercial use of the Internet and particularly the Web. This calls for the development of a generic framework that ties together relevant management ideas that help organizations strategically and operationally align themselves with new Web-based IT. Our goal with this chapter is to provide some basic elements that can be used by managers and researchers as a starting point to develop this generic framework. As such, we focus on a particular set of activities associated with team coordination and communication in production and service delivery business processes through the Internet and the Web.

In this project, each student customizes an accounting system using a Web-based accounting package that allows users to enter accounting data anytime anywhere via the Internet. The student also prepares system documentation so that other end-users can efficiently use the system. Finally, the student provides a report that explains whether the Web-based accounting package has all the required features for his or her business. This project helps students learn accounting systems from the enterprise perspective instead of the piecemeal account approach. Results indicate that students significantly improve their knowledge and skills regarding systems design and implementation.

Sophisticated information technologies allow companies to provide stakeholders with more transparency. Web-based disclosures have the advantages of low cost, mass reach, frequency and speed, and yet the extent of Internet disclosure varies across companies and industries. Drawing on interdisciplinary work in information technology and corporate governance, in this paper, the authors examine the S&P 100 companies’ use of the Web for corporate governance information disclosure and analyze the association between the Web disclosing practice and firm attributes. Their findings support the proposition that Web-based disclosure decisions were associated with various firm specific attributes. This study has implications for the strategic role of the Internet and Web in disclosure and transparency.

Product data management (PDM) systems have been successfully applied to maintain product-related information as well as to integrate different applications for design, process and manufacturing throughout the product life cycle. However, the issues on how to use the PDM system to enable design automation have not been adequately addressed. This paper proposed a framework to enable product design automation by employing the web-based PDM system and the Computer-aided Design (CAD) platform. The components of the framework include a feature-based parametric template module, 3D and 2D auto-generation modules, a web-based PDM system, and the data communication protocol between PDM and CAD platform. The features and relations for product families can be defined with the parametric module. 3D and 2D modules help to auto generate the solid and 2D drawings based on the features and relations of the product. The web-based PDM system provides the easy access for designer to create or edit or store the product feature information, and manage the workflow process. The illustrating example demonstrates the feasibility and effectiveness of this proposed framework for design automation.
