This study investigated the critical review on applied linguistics course teaching methods, approaches, and strategies which would be found in post graduate program in ELT in State University of Malang in the second semester. The lecturer is the teacher who is teaching critical review on applied linguistics course in offering E, class A. This study used one-site case study. Data was gathered from observations. The result of the study showed that the teacher relies on Communicative Language Teaching which was found in the classroom activities. Therefore, this paper critically reviews Intarapanich’s article (2013) “Teaching Methods, Approaches and Strategies Found in EFL Classrooms: A Case Study in Lao PDR” on the basis of the nature methods, approaches, and strategies in the teaching EFL classrooms, the existing practice in the teaching of EFL, and for the investigation proposed that teacher should adapt learning activities, based upon student abilities and constraint in classroom setting.Keywords: methods, approaches, strategies, applied linguistic course

This study sought to establish perceptions of block- release program students on the causes and effects of stress. A qualitative approach and a case study design were adopted. Sixty-three participants, (30 female and 33 male) doing a Master of Education degree in Psychology, at a state university in Zimbabwe were purposefully selected to participate in the study. Data were collected using an open-ended, self-administered questionnaire and were thematically analysed. Results for the study indicated that block- release students perceived themselves as experiencing stress. The perceived stressors were revealed as, shortage of accommodation, shortage of learning resources, packed time-tables, and work-overload. The effects of stress were revealed as academic failure, poor quality assignments, immorality, violence, insomnia and persistent headaches. Recommendations were made.

Sabe-se que a educação é uma das circunstâncias necessárias para que haja transformação na vida e no ambiente das pessoas e com a educação superior, em expansão e crescimento acelerado no Brasil, vivencia-se um novo aspecto, o crescimento local e regional das cidades. Partindo destes pressupostos, este artigo procurou verifcar qual foi a expansão do Ensino Superior no Estado de Mato Grosso, analisando os dados da Universidade do Estado de Mato Grosso (Unemat) e de que forma a expansão proporcionou o desenvolvimento dos municípios. A pesquisa se caracteriza como uma pesquisa exploratória, de abordagem quantitativa, com a realização de um estudo de caso. Foram analisados dados de dois censos do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografa e Estatística (IBGE): 2000 e 2010 e constatou-se, com os dados coletados, que a Unemat aumentou o número de cursos e o número de vagas no decorrer da década, demonstrando indícios de contribuição no aumento do PIB e do IDHM dos municípios em que a universidade atua.Palavras-chave: Educação. Desenvolvimento Regional.AbstractIt is known that education is one of the conditions necessary for any change in peoples’ life and environment and with higher education in expansion and accelerated growth, Brazil has been experiencing a new aspect , the cities ‘local and regional growth. Based on these assumptions, this article aimed to fnd what the expansion of higher education in the state of Mato Grosso was, analyzing the data of the State University of Mato Grosso (Unemat) and how the expansion enabled the municipalities’ development. The research is characterized as an exploratory research with a quantitative approach, with the completion of a case study. Data were analyzed from two censuses of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE): 2000 and 2010 and found out with the data collected that Unemat increased the number of courses and the number of jobs during the decade demonstrating evidence of contribution to increases in GDP and IDHM of the municipalities in which the university operates.Keywords: Education. This research aims to reveal the management of KKN conducted by the KKN Center of State University of Surabaya during the covid-19 pandemic. This research was conducted using qualitative approach with the type of research used is a case study. Data retrieval is conducted through interviews, observations, and document studies. This research shows that KKN activities conducted are regional-based KKN activities with 1) student kkn and DPL regional placement planning tailored to the student's residential area when KKN is conducted, as well as KKN activities directed to help the community in preventing the spread of Covid-19 and solving problems that occurred during the Covid-19 Pandemic; 2) KKN activities are carried out with attention to health protocols, by implementing 5 forms of programs; and 3) evaluation of KKN activities is conducted through monitoring and evaluation with kkn center to determine the follow-up of KKN in the future. The entire management process of regional-based KKN is carried out by implementing health protocols.

The ongoing online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic has become a separate catalyst for the development of education that utilizes technology in the current industrial 4.0 era. However, on the other hand, there are still many gaps in online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research study aims to (1) explore the experiences of postgraduate students in online learning; (2) describe the negative impacts and barriers to online learning, along with strategies for dealing with them; and (3) observe the potential that emerges in the future after the Covid-19 pandemic can be overcome. This research is qualitative research with a type of case study. Data were collected through open questionnaires and interviews with participants of 30 postgraduate students of the Primary education study program, Yogyakarta State University. Data analysis was accomplished by examining themes and sub-themes in each topic discussed, then determining the correlation between the sub-themes to conclude. The results show that students have varied experiences throughout online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. In addition, students also gain negative physical and psychological impacts, get obstacles concerning data reception, gadgets, interaction with lecturers, independent study, and learning activities during the Covid-19 pandemic. However, students also still have various strategies in dealing with the obstacles and negative impacts of Covid-19. Finally, online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic is giving potential as well as negative things in the future once it is resolved.

This paper depicts the students’ perception on the ways their teachers teach them. There were 80 respondents involved in this research consisting 40 students from undergraduate and 40 students from graduate program. The respondents are the English students of the Graduate and undergraduate Program of the State University of Makassar. An open ended questionnaire was distributed to them to reveal their perception towards their teachers’ teaching styles. The findings of this research revealed expectations from students towards their teachers in terms of the use of materials and methods in the class, the classroom interaction and management by the teachers, and the teachers’ personal identities. Some other aspects such as gender relation and politeness were taken into consideration on the students’ preferences. Due to unsatisfactory number of researches investigating ELT post-graduate programs, and perceptions of academics and students in these programs regarding mediation theory of Feuerstein, this study attempted to investigate the aspects of this theory in doctorate and master programs in ELT department of a state university. Methodologically, this study employed a qualitative case study approach and researchers made use of 4 semi-structured personal interviews with academics and 2 focus-group interviews with students. The results showed idiosyncrasy of academics’ use of mediation theory aspects. ‘Significance’ and ‘purpose beyond the here and now’ were important aspects for students in being a guide for them to find research topics. Academics paid special attention to relate the topics and tasks with learners’ daily practices. However, in order to maximize student-supervisor relationship and increase students’ success, there is a need for a change in the system. Most of the criticisms of the students stemmed from the limited time of the academics. Therefore, institutional implications include necessary changes in this post-graduate program. The results of this study allowed academics to know the views of the students in post-graduate programs regarding how, when, and where exactly they could use mediation theory aspects more effectively.

Out-of-class learning environments are important learning environments because they improve students’ mental and physical health as well as providing them with cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills. However, it is necessary to make a plan, implement and evaluate the teaching processes appropriately to efficient benefit from out-of-class teaching environments. The present study aimed to determine preservice teachers’ views regarding out-of-class teaching processes. The study utilized the case study design, a qualitative research approach, to make an in-depth analysis of preservice teachers’ views. 58 preservice teachers from the educational faculty of a state university in Turkey were the participants of the study. Data were collected using a semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher of the present study. For the analysis of data obtained, content analysis was carried out using NVivo9 software, and themes and codes were determined. Findings were presented with frequencies, percentages, excerpts of preservice teachers’ views, and models that indicate the relationship between themes and codes. Findings revealed six different themes for the preservice teachers’ views: out-of-class learning places; advantages of out-of-class teaching; limitations of out-of-class teaching; planning of out-of-class teaching; implementation of out-of-class teaching; and assessment of out-of-class teaching. The study findings were discussed in line with the related literature and suggestions were made regarding the findings.

Self-stigma experienced by people who experience schizophrenia has influence on reduced self-esteem, on powerlessness, the weakening of hope, and a motivation towards recovery. The aim of this study is to explain the efforts of people suffering schizophrenia to manage their self-stigma through self-control, using a case study approach. Based on the purposive sampling technique, five people with schizophrenia were selected as the cases to be studied. Data collection techniques utilized in-depth interviews, observation, and documentary studies. The analysis of the study data employed the stages of data reduction, data display, and data verification. Improvement in study quality employed the triangulation of data sources by checking the data to determine its consistency. The results of this study indicate that people with schizophrenia who have the ability to self-control can overcome self-stigma through changes in the manner of viewing themselves, self-training through activities, having endurance, having an honest approach, being able to explain schizophrenia from a positive viewpoint, having initiative, and having a positive attitude and the courage to face challenges.
