Dairi Regency has the potential to increase its maize production. One of the problems in maize farming is its low productivity because of its low efficiency of input use. The objectives of this research are:(1) analyzing factors influencing maize production, and (2) analyzing the economic efficiency of maize farming at Dairi District. The analysis methods used are the Cobb-Douglas stochastic frontier production function utilizing Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) to analyze technical efficiency, the dual cost function to analyze allocative efficiency. This research used cross-section data. The research findings showed thatfactors like seed and fertilizers (SP-36 and Phonska) were positively and statistically significant on maize production (level of significance at 5 %), the use of urea and herbicide also havea positive and statistically significant influence on maize production (level of significance at 10 %). Furthermore, labor use hasa positive, but not statistically significant effect on maize production. The efficiency analysis revealed that the maize farmers had economic inefficiency. The low frequency of extension visits was a substantial contributorto this technical inefficiency. Agricultural extension is deemed essential to significantly increase the technical efficiency.

This study measured technical efficiency and its determinants in maize production by small-scale producers in Mwanza region, using a stochastic frontier production function approach. A randomly selected sample of participants in the two districts was used. The Maximum Likelihood estimation procedure was followed to obtain the determinants of technical efficiency and technical efficiency levels of small-scale maize producers. The minimum and maximum values of technical efficiency were between 20% and 91%, indicating that the least practices of specific producer operates at a minimum level of 20%, while the best practice producers  operate  at 91% technical efficiency  level respectively. The summary results of the mean technical efficiency was 63%. The main determinants of technical efficiency were labour, farm size, producer’s experience, producer’s age, family size which were all positive and statistically significant. The findings suggest that the average efficiency of small-scale maize producers could be improved by 37% through better use of existing resources and technology. These findings highlight the need for action by government to assist small-scale maize producers improve efficiency.

The needs of cabbages tends to increase. Meanwhile, cabbage production is not optimal and just seasonal. However, demands of cabbages in export field are high so, it makes the cabbage farming is a strategic area to be developed. To increase production through increasing the use of inputs and using new technologies is relatively difficult because it requires high costs. Therefore,  increasing production by improving farming efficiency is a relevant option. Farmers’ managerial skills and their combining various production inputs ability will affect the production. Efficient use of input amount (allocative efficiency) and a good technical efficiency are important for increasing the production. Production of cabbage farming efficiency was analyzed by using stochastic frontier analysis (SFA). The results of the analysis showed that the technical, allocative and economic efficiency of cabbage farming in Karo District had not achieved. The average of the technical, allocative and economic efficiency values of the respondent were 0.697, 0.374 and 0.215. These results indicate that low efficiency is a contributing factor to the low productivity of the cabbage farmer respondents' in Karo District. Several factors that have a significant effect on the efficiency are farming experience, labor ratio, land ownership status and cabbage lifespan.

Increased rice productivity for years is not a solution if rice farming efficiency cannot be sustained for the next hundred years. The study analysed the efficiency of rice farmers in Oyo State. A multistage sampling procedure was employed to select128 rice farmers for the study. Primary data were obtained with the aid of well-structured questionnaire and interview schedule. Descriptive statistics and stochastic frontier model were employed in the analysis of the data. Majority (78.1%) of the rice farmers had one form of education or the other while the age of rice farmers ranges from 25 to 78 years and mean age of 47 years. The stochastic frontier results (Maximum Likelihood Estimates) revealed that farm output increases with farm size, hired labour, and fertilizer but decreases with herbicides. Also, technical efficiency of the farmers increases with formal education, farming experience, household size, extension contact and distance of farm to market. The mean technical efficiency, allocative efficiency and economic efficiency of 88.5 percent, 66.9 percent and 58.3 percent respectively showed that there is room for improvement in technical efficiency by 11.5 percent, allocative efficiency by 33.1 percent and economic efficiency by 41.7 percent with the present technology. Policy option requires the rice farmers to reduce the use of agro chemical. Farmers should expand their farm land to ensure efficient utilization of resources. Above all, formal education and adult literacy education should be strengthened among the rice farmers.

<p>An effort to increase rice production through agricultural extension in Central Lampung regency is difficult. This is because of the limited land that can be used as new planning areas and high competition for land use as non-agricultural activities. Therefore, the increase in rice production through production efficiency becomes the most important alternative. The objectives of this study are to analyze the level of technical efficiency, allocative efficiency, and economic efficiency of rice farming in Central Lampung district and identified the factors that influence it. The results of the analysis using stochastic frontier production function shows that rice farming in the study area has been efficient. Average efficiency level of technical efficiency is 0,94, allocative efficiency is 0,93, and economic efficiency is 0,88. The land area is the most responsive variable in an effort to increase rice production. Variables expected to affect the degree of technical efficiency of rice farming is the number of family members of farmers, rice farming experience, acces farmers to agricultural financing, and number of agricultural extension.</p>

The study was conducted to evaluate the production efficiency and to analyze the factors affecting the production efficiency of chili farmers in Tra Vinh Province. The results of the study was based on data collected from 125 farmers growing chili in Tra Vinh Province. Using descriptive statistical methods, cost and benefit analysis, data envelope analysis (DEA) and the Tobit regression model to evaluate various contributing factors such as: financial efficiency, technical efficiency (TE), allocative efficiency (AE), cost efficiency/economic efficiency (CE/EE), and other factors effecting the efficiency of chili production. The results show that the average yield is 16.6 tons/ha, the average profit is 101.1 million VND/ha, the ratio of profit/cost is 1.56 perannum. Factors affecting chili productivity are the amount of seed, nitrogen, phosphate, potassium, electricity and labor. The level of technical efficiency achieved is 77%, with low efficiency due to optimum efficiency andwaste production of about 5.5 tons/ha. The level of production efficiency achieved is 21.5 tons/ha. Factors effecting the economic efficiency of households include education levels, production experience, training andunion participation.

Abstrak       Kabupaten Kendal merupakan salah satu sentra produksi jagung di Provinsi Jawa Tengah dengan produktivitas yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan produktivitas provinsi.  Produktivitas tersebut diperoleh petani melalui penggunaan input produksi secara efisien. Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui keragaan teknologi usahatani jagung, mengetahui efisiensi dan sumber inefisiensi serta penyebaran efisiensi berdasarkan sumber-sumber inefisiensi.  Penelitian dilaksanakan di Desa Wirosari, Kecamatan Patean, Kabupaten Kendal pada bulan Agustus – November 2018.  Penelitian menggunakan data primer yang diperoleh melalui metode survey pada 30 petani responden. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan fungsi produksi stochastic frontier.  Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa efisiensi teknis usahatani jagung masih rendah dengan rata-rata 0,57.  Rendahnya efisiensi ini disebabkan oleh umur dan pendidikan petani, serta pengalaman usahatani.  Dengan bertambahnya pengalaman usahatani, umur petani semakin bertambah sehingga efisiensi semakin berkurang karena kemampuan fisik petani semakin berkurang. Disamping dua faktor tersebut, pendidikan yang tinggi justru menjadi penyebab terjadinya inefisiensi usahatani. Oleh karena itu untuk meningkatkan efisiensi usahatani perlu upaya untuk meningkatkan daya tarik di sektor pertanian, antara lain berupa fasilitasi teknologi digital hingga ke pedesaan dan program pertukaran pemuda tani. kata kunci: efisiensi, jagung, sumber inefisiensi, sector pertanian Abstract       Kendal District is one of the maize production centers in Central Java Province with higher productivity than provincial productivity.  These productivity is obtained by farmers by using production inputs efficiently.  This study aimed to determine the performance of maize farming technology, to know the efficiency and sources of inefficiency, and to spread efficiency based on sources of inefficiency.  The study was conducted in Wirosari Village, Patean Subdistrict, Kendal District in August – November 2019.  Primary data was collected through survey method by interviewing 30 respondents.  The data was analyzed  by the stochastic frontier production function.  The results showed that the technical efficiency of maize farming was still low which was 0.57.  The low efficiency was caused by the age, education, and  of farming experience of farmer.  With the increase in farming experience, the age of farmers is increasing so that efficiency decreases because farmers' physical abilities diminish. Therefore, to improve farming efficiency, efforts need to be made to increase attractiveness in the agricultural sector, including facilitation of digital technology to the countryside and youth farmer exchange programs. keywords: efficiency, maize, inefficiency sources, agricultural sector

The main objective of this study was to measure and analyzes economic efficiency of crop production in North Kordofan State. Secondary objectives included: estimate technical, allocative and economic efficiency and construct efficiency profile determination and the effect of socio-economic factors behind inefficiency. Primary data was collected by a structured questionnaire following stratified random sampling technique from 205 farmers, while secondary data was collected form relevant Institutional sources. The stochastic frontier production and cost function model analysis was used to estimate the technical, allocative and economic efficiency of producing crops. The predicted technical efficiency and economic efficiency are the basis for estimating allocative efficiency of farm. Results indicated that the mean technical efficiency of sorghum, millet, groundnuts and sesame were 0.57, 0.73, 0.53 and 0.74, respectively. The mean allocative efficiency of sorghum, millet, groundnuts and sesame production were 0.84, 0.83, 0.92 and 0.90, respectively. The mean economic efficiency of sorghum, millet, groundnut and sesame were 0.48, 0.62, 0.49 and 0.67, respectively. Farmers who have credit access are more technically efficient than those who have no credit access.

Irrigation production is a means by which agricultural production can be increased to meet the growing food demands in the world. This study evaluated the effect of irrigation ecology on farm household technical, allocative, and economic efficiency of smallholder rice farmers. Cross-sectional data was obtained from 350 rice farmers across rain fed and irrigation ecologies. Stochastic frontier analyses are used to estimate the production efficiency and endogenous treatment effect regression model is used to estimate the impact of irrigation ecology on rice production efficiency. The impact of irrigation ecology on technical efficiency is about 0.05, which implies farmers producing under irrigation ecology are more technically efficient in their rice production than those in rain fed production. The impact of irrigation ecology on allocative efficiency is about 0.33, which shows that farmers participating in irrigation farming are more allocatively efficient in their rice production than those in rain fed production. The impact on economic efficiency is about 0.23, meaning that farmers participating in irrigation farming are more economically efficient in their rice production than those in rain fed production. Irrigation ecology has positive impact on production efficiency; hence farmers should be encouraged to produce more under irrigation for increased yield and profit.

This research  aims  to analyses  factors  influence  on production  and  resources  allocation  of soybeans  by farmer  at  West Lombok.  Production  function  was estimated  from survey data and technical  efficiency  was used to indicate  farm management  level  through maximum  likelihood,  which  was transformed  into frontier stochastic  production  function.  The land  size,  fertilizer  (urea and  TSP), labor  and pesticide  influence  the production  of soybean  at site.  The technical efficciency  level of Soybean fann was 95,6 percent   The  usage of TSP and pesticide reached allocative efficiency while urea and seeds were al/ocative efficiency yet Key words:  technical  effICiency, allocative  effICiency, and stochastic  frontier  production  function.
