Girolamo Maiorica was an Italian priest of Society of Jesus (Latin name: Societas  Iesu). He came to Viet Nam at the beginning of the seventeenth century, he lived and preached in Tonkin at the same time as Alexandre deRhodes did, from 1631 until his death in Thang Long. His legacy was a large number of works in various genres of Catholic literature written in Nom script, which for a long time had been considered lost, until Vietnamese scholar Hoang Xuan Han found some in the National Library of France in 1951. Hoang Xuan Han wroteabout his discovery in an article published in the Archivum Historicum Soietatis Iesu journal in 1953. Although this article was short, it was of great significance for the study of Catholic literature in Nom script of the seventeenth century. This paper aims to introduce Hoang Xuan Han’s article and some related information

This study aimed to use charcoal derived from the bamboo and melaleuca produced by traditional kiln applied to sandy soil growing mustard green (Brassica juncea L.). The charcoals were applied at three ratio (1%,2%, and 3%, which correspond to 10, 20, and 30 g charcoal/kg soil in pots) and the control treatment without charcoal. Soil properties were investigated including bulk density, pH, electrical conductivity (EC), cation exchange capacity (CEC), organic matter content, total nitrogen, and total phosphorous. The results showed that bulk density decreased in charcoal-treated soils. pH and EC were in the suitable range for plants.Nutrients and CEC of the soil in the charcoal treatment were significantly higher compared with the control (CEC increase 6.8% to 16%; TC increase 80% to 115%; TN increase 37.5 to 75%). Green mustard growing on charcoalamended soil had greater height (higher 3% to 21%), bigger leaves, and higher yield (increase18% to 81%) than those of plants groomed in the control treatment. This study showed the potential of using charcoal as supplying nutrient to the poor soil. Moreover, the abundant of raw material and easy to produce, it is suitable for applying in the Mekong Delta, Viet Nam, and other countries with similar conditions and infrastructure.

Nowadays, women receive a lot of attention and assistance in production and business. They have been support with loans from  the Women’s Union, capital from Vietnam Bank for Social Policies to facilitate family economic development. This study aims to assess the current situation of demand and efficiency of loanusing in Duyen Hai District, Tra Vinh Province. In this study, the method of Multivariable Regression model was used to analyze the factors affecting the efficiency of using such loans. Research results shown that there are four factors that have positive correlation with loans using efficiency, including age, education level, landarea, loan amount. On the contrary, three factors including the number of employees, the main source of income, and the purpose of loan are negatively related to the efficiency of using loans. In addition, the study proposes some solutions to help households in using capital more efficiently and enhancing their standard of lives.

Piled raft foundations are widely used in infrastructure built on soft soil to reduce the settlement and enhance bearing capacity. The raft can be used for basements and to share the load. In this paper, Poulos method, in which the raft was cut into many piled strips, was used as an analytical method. The study also used Plaxis2D and SAP 2000 to calculate internal forces for the raft in a piled raft foundation. A case of Vietcombank building with 10 floors and 1 basement, constructed on a soil profile in Soc Trang province, was studied. The piled raft with a 35m×19m×1m (length×width×thickness) raft and 28 piles were used for the analysis. Normaland groundwater pumping conditions were applied for the soil. The results showed that the maximum moment and shear force that occurred in the raft were affected when the groundwater pumping condition was applied to the model. The internal forces of the raft in the piled raft foundation for different conditions were captured, discussed, and presented in this paper.

This study aims at modifying the real situation and identifying the factors influencing on business efficiency of households in  Soc Trang Province. Data for study were collected by interviewing 150 business householdsin two districts of Ke Sach, My Xuyen, Vinh Chau Town and Soc Trang City in 2019. ROS (Return on sales) was employed for evaluating business efficiency of households. Descriptive analysis was used for modifying the real situation of business efficiency of households. Multiple linear regression analysiswas used to determinevariables significantly influencing on business efficiency of households. The results show that the average ROS in households’ business is 0.07. The variables of (1) education level, (2) the number of business year, (3) capital amount (4) infrastructure conditions, (5) market access, (6) tax policy, (7) administrative procedure forbusiness and (8) business supporting services positively correlated with ROS.

Water quality is critical for a healthy ecosystem, this study was conducted to evaluate the surface water quality in lakes in An Giang Province from 2017 to 2019. Water quality was assessed using variables of temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), total suspended solids (TSS), chemical oxygen demand (COD), biological oxygen demand (BOD), nitrate (NO3- - N), phosphate (PO3 4- - P ), ammonia (NH+ 4 - N), and coliforms at nine locationsbelonging to seven reservoirs including O Tuk Sa, Thuy Liem, Soai So, Soai Chek, O Thum, O Ta Soc, and Bung Binh Thien. Water quality criteria were assessed according to the National Technical Regulation on Surface Water Quality (QCVN 08-MT: 2015/BTNMT). Cluster analysis (CA) and principal component analysis (PCA)were applied to group water quality to identify the main parameters affecting water quality in the reservoirs. The findings indicated that the water quality in the reservoirs were polluted by TSS, organic matters (DO was low, while COD and BOD were high), and microorganisms (coliforms). The PCA analysis showed that the watervariables including temperature, pH, DO, TSS, COD, BOD, NO3- - N, PO3 4- - P , NO3- - N, and coliforms significantly influenced the surface of the water in the reservoirs. It is necessary to investigate pollution sources to propose appropriate solutions to treat and maintain the water quality in the reservoirs of An Giang Province .

This study applied the SERVQUAL scale of Parasuraman et al. and the scale of previous research models to measure the quality of Saigon - Hanoi Commercial Joint-Stock Bank. The study used Cronbach’s Alpha reliability test method and exploratory factor analysis (EFA) to verify and evaluate the scale conducted with a sample size of n = 215 respondents are customers who use the services of the bank. The research results serve as a basis for Saigon - Hanoi Commercial Joint-Stock Bank to know the factors of service quality that affect satisfaction, the relationship between service quality and satisfaction, level of customer evaluation of these factors, from which an appropriate strategy is carried out to improve customer satisfaction in the future.

Sludge of seafood processing factories discharged directly into the environment can lead to environmental pollution. Research on the use of seafood processing sludge as compost for agriculture in the Mekong Delta is encouraged. The objectives of this study were (1) to evaluate the chemical composition of seafood processingsludge after 60 days composting and (2) to evaluate the growth of Tagetes patula L planted with composted sludge. The sludge composting experiment was carried out with 3 treatments: sludge + Trichoderma fungi; sludge + chicken manure + Trichoderma fungi; sludge + straw + chicken manure + Trichoderma fungi. The results showed that the treatment of sludge + straw + chicken manure + Trichoderma fungi had a betterquality than the other two treatments. The pH, TC, TN, NH+ 4 , NO- 3 , TP, PO3 4- and heavy metal(Pb, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Zn and Hg) contents of sludge meet the environmental standard of Viet Nam (10TCN526:2002). E. coli and Salmonella were not present at the end of the composting experiment. Tagetes patula L grew and flowered on all 4 treatments: control – composted straw; sludge + Trichoderma fungi; sludge + chicken manure + Trichoderma fungi; sludge + straw + chicken manure + Trichoderma fungi. However,Tagetes patula L grew best on the sludge + Trichoderma fungi experimental condition .
