The study was conducted to evaluate the production efficiency and to analyze the factors affecting the production efficiency of chili farmers in Tra Vinh Province. The results of the study was based on data collected from 125 farmers growing chili in Tra Vinh Province. Using descriptive statistical methods, cost and benefit analysis, data envelope analysis (DEA) and the Tobit regression model to evaluate various contributing factors such as: financial efficiency, technical efficiency (TE), allocative efficiency (AE), cost efficiency/economic efficiency (CE/EE), and other factors effecting the efficiency of chili production. The results show that the average yield is 16.6 tons/ha, the average profit is 101.1 million VND/ha, the ratio of profit/cost is 1.56 perannum. Factors affecting chili productivity are the amount of seed, nitrogen, phosphate, potassium, electricity and labor. The level of technical efficiency achieved is 77%, with low efficiency due to optimum efficiency andwaste production of about 5.5 tons/ha. The level of production efficiency achieved is 21.5 tons/ha. Factors effecting the economic efficiency of households include education levels, production experience, training andunion participation.

Shallot has the highest production value in Indonesia. High production value indicates that shallot is an important commodity, therefore, its potential must be improved. Technical efficiency analysis can be used to measure production efficiency and possible input reduction to maximize the production potential of shallot. The chosen location for this research is Torongrejo Village Batu City, East Java. Shallot productivity value of Batu City is comparable to other central shallot production areas in East Java. The purpose of this research is to understand the farming system and production efficiency of shallot alongside with socio-economics factors affecting its efficiency level. Research method used in this research consists of: profitability analysis of shallot farming, analysis using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) to analyze the technical efficiency of shallot production, and Tobit regression to analyze socio-economics factors affecting technical efficiency level. The results from the analyses shows that shallot farming in Torongrejo Village has the R/C ratio of 2,09, with the DEA-CRS technical qfficiency value of 87,7 percent, DEA-VRS technical efficiency value of 99 percent and scale efficiency value of 88,6 percent. The result from Tobit regression using DEA-VRS as dependent variable shows that farming experience and formal education has positive and significant effect on technical efficiency (TE) level, and land ownership status has negative and significant effect on TE level. Shallot production efficiency can be increased by using reduced inputs therefore able to increase farming profit while keep improving farmers’ education and agriculture extension programs for the next generation of farmers.

Dairi Regency has the potential to increase its maize production. One of the problems in maize farming is its low productivity because of its low efficiency of input use. The objectives of this research are:(1) analyzing factors influencing maize production, and (2) analyzing the economic efficiency of maize farming at Dairi District. The analysis methods used are the Cobb-Douglas stochastic frontier production function utilizing Maximum Likelihood Estimation (MLE) to analyze technical efficiency, the dual cost function to analyze allocative efficiency. This research used cross-section data. The research findings showed thatfactors like seed and fertilizers (SP-36 and Phonska) were positively and statistically significant on maize production (level of significance at 5 %), the use of urea and herbicide also havea positive and statistically significant influence on maize production (level of significance at 10 %). Furthermore, labor use hasa positive, but not statistically significant effect on maize production. The efficiency analysis revealed that the maize farmers had economic inefficiency. The low frequency of extension visits was a substantial contributorto this technical inefficiency. Agricultural extension is deemed essential to significantly increase the technical efficiency.

Since war started at the end of 2001, the economy was severely devasted in Afghanistan, especially for the agriculture sector. Maize is the third most important cereal crop in Afghanistan, but the productivity of maize has a declining trend which may be caused by low efficiency of maize farmers nowadays. This study examines the production efficiency of maize producers and its important factors with the cross-sectional data form a multi-stage sampling survey of 250 maize producers in Helmand province in 2019. With the adoption of stochastic production frontier (SPF) model and production cost function, the paper gets the estimations of the average technical efficiency (0.737), allocative efficiency (0.65) and economic efficiency (0.568). The inputs, including land, labor, seed, fertilizer and pesticide/weedicides, have significant impacts on maize production and most of the farms exhibit an increasing return to scales. In addition, Tobit regression was applied to identify the influential factors of the production efficiencies for maize producers and the results indicate that education, family size, farm size, farming experience, contact to extension services and access to credit have significantly influence on the efficiency level. Finally, the study suggests that government should take some initiatives, such as extending the agricultural extension service, ensuring supply of high quality seeds and sufficient fertilizer with affordable prices and economical provision of mobile internet facility in remote areas, which will enhance the productivity and efficiency of the farmers and ultimately boost up their economic welfare and livelihood.

<p>An effort to increase rice production through agricultural extension in Central Lampung regency is difficult. This is because of the limited land that can be used as new planning areas and high competition for land use as non-agricultural activities. Therefore, the increase in rice production through production efficiency becomes the most important alternative. The objectives of this study are to analyze the level of technical efficiency, allocative efficiency, and economic efficiency of rice farming in Central Lampung district and identified the factors that influence it. The results of the analysis using stochastic frontier production function shows that rice farming in the study area has been efficient. Average efficiency level of technical efficiency is 0,94, allocative efficiency is 0,93, and economic efficiency is 0,88. The land area is the most responsive variable in an effort to increase rice production. Variables expected to affect the degree of technical efficiency of rice farming is the number of family members of farmers, rice farming experience, acces farmers to agricultural financing, and number of agricultural extension.</p>

Irrigation production is a means by which agricultural production can be increased to meet the growing food demands in the world. This study evaluated the effect of irrigation ecology on farm household technical, allocative, and economic efficiency of smallholder rice farmers. Cross-sectional data was obtained from 350 rice farmers across rain fed and irrigation ecologies. Stochastic frontier analyses are used to estimate the production efficiency and endogenous treatment effect regression model is used to estimate the impact of irrigation ecology on rice production efficiency. The impact of irrigation ecology on technical efficiency is about 0.05, which implies farmers producing under irrigation ecology are more technically efficient in their rice production than those in rain fed production. The impact of irrigation ecology on allocative efficiency is about 0.33, which shows that farmers participating in irrigation farming are more allocatively efficient in their rice production than those in rain fed production. The impact on economic efficiency is about 0.23, meaning that farmers participating in irrigation farming are more economically efficient in their rice production than those in rain fed production. Irrigation ecology has positive impact on production efficiency; hence farmers should be encouraged to produce more under irrigation for increased yield and profit.

The study investigated the technical, Allocative and economics efficiencies of yam producers in Ganye Local government Area, Adamawa State, Nigeria. Combinations of purposive and random sampling techniques were employed using 100 famers from five different wards of the local government. In the first place, five wards were selected and used for this study and twenty farmers were selected from each ward, making a total of 100 famers, twenty. The analytical tool used to achieve the objectives of this study was Data Envelopment Analysis. The results of the study revealed that 57% of the farmers had technical efficiency of 0.81 and above while 43% of the farmers operate at less than 0.81 efficiency level. The mean technical efficiency for the 100 sampled farmers in the study area was 0.78. The farmer with the best practice has a technical efficiency of 1.00 while 0.37 is for the least efficient farmers. This implies that on the average, output fall by 0% from the maximum possible level of 1.00 due to technical inefficiency. The mean allocative efficiency was 0.98. The result indicates that average yam farmer in the state would enjoy cost saving of about 5% while allocative inefficient farmer will have an efficiency gain of 95% to attain the level of most efficient farmer among the respondents. The mean economic efficiency was 0.77. The farmer with the best practice has an economic efficiency of 1.0 while 0.08 was for the least efficient farmers. This implies that on the average, output fall by 52% from the maximum possible level due to inefficiency. Finally, among the constraints identified in the study area, the majority of the respondent attested to the fact that high cost of inputs, transportation problem, lack of credit facilities and storage/preservation problem were the major constraints they faced in yam production in the area. The study concludes that yam farmers in the study area have achieved absolute efficiency in the use of variable inputs. It was found that yam production in the study area is profitable.

AbstractUsing recent advances in the stochastic production frontier framework, this paper presents an empirical analysis of technical, allocative and economic efficiency of a sample of organic and conventional cotton farms located in Greece. The results suggest that both farm types in the sample examined are technically, allocatively and economically inefficient. Farmer's age and education and farm size are important factors in explaining differentials in efficiency estimates. In comparative terms, organic farms exhibit lower efficiency scores vis-à-vis their conventional counterparts in terms of technical and economic efficiency; regarding allocative efficiency both farm types are almost equally inefficient. Low efficiency scores in both types of farming may be attributed to the respective intervention policies of the last 20 years.

Efficiency is an important factor for increasing productivity which leads to increase market output to achieve the goal of food security. In economics where resources are scarce and opportunities to use new technologies are limited, increasing efficiency remains the most reasonable means to raise productivity without necessarily developing new technologies or increasing the resource base. So, this study aimed to investigate level of production efficiency, factors affecting production inefficiency of sorghum small holder farmers in Kafta-humera district of Tigray Ethiopia. A two stage sampling technique was used to select 289 sample farmers who were interviewed using a semi- structured questionnaire to obtain data pertaining to sorghum production during the year 2016/2017.Stochastic production frontier model was used to identify production efficiency levels, where as Tobit models was used to estimate factors affecting production efficiency levels. Accordingly, the mean technical, allocative and economic efficiencies were 78.01%, 65.21% and 39.91% respectively. This implies that output can be increased by 21.99% or cost can be reduced by 34.79% with the existing level of technology and resources. Input variables such as land, labor, tractor plow power, chemicals, DAP and Urea fertilizers positively affects production of sorghum. The discrepancy ratio (γ) implied that about 91.91% of the variation in sorghum production was attributed to technical inefficiency effects. Tobit model revealed that age, education, non-farm income, credit, extension service and training positively and significantly affected technical efficiency while age square and total livestock holding had negatively and significantly affected. Additionally, age square, education and frequency of farm visit positively and significantly affected allocative efficiency, while age, non-farm income, credit and extension contact have a negative and significant affect. Economic efficiency was positively and significantly affected by age, education, non-farm income, credit, extension contact and frequencies of farm visit but negatively affected by age square. These indicate that there is a room to increase in production efficiency of sorghum in the study area. Therefore, government authorities and other concerned bodies should take into consideration the above mentioned demographic, socioeconomic and institutional factors to increase efficiency of sorghum.

Abstrak. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk melihat faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi produksi telur ayam ras seperti jumlah ayam, pakan, tenaga kerja, dan obat-obatan. Serta melihat tingkat efisiensi yang meliputi efisiensi teknis, efisiensi harga atau alokatif, dan efisiensi ekonomis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa faktor produksi jumlah ayam dan pakan berpengaruh kepada produksi telur ayam ras di UPTD. Balai Ternak Non Ruminansia dengan sistem kandang terbuka maupun kandang tertutup. Sedangkan faktor produksi tenaga kerja dan obat-obatan tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap produksi telur ayam ras. Setelah dianalisis, diketahui bahwa penggunaan faktor produksi jumlah ayam, pakan, tenaga kerja dan obat-obatan belum digunakan secara efisien dalam produksi telur ayam ras dengan sistem kandang terbuka dan kandang tertutup. Hal ini disebabkan penggunaan masing-masing faktor produksi belum maksimal sehingga tidak mencapai tingkat efisiensi.Analysis of The Efficiency of Laying Hens (A Case Study in A Non Ruminant Livestock Center in Aceh Besar)Abstract. The purpose of this study is to look at the factors that influence the production of broiler eggs such as the number of chickens, feed, labor, and drugs. As well as looking at the level of efficiency which includes technical efficiency, price or allocative efficiency, and economic efficiency. The results of this study indicate that the production factor of the number of chickens and feed influences the production of broiler eggs in Non-Ruminant Livestock Center with open or closed cage system. While labor and medicine production factors did not significantly affect the production of eggs. After being analyzed, it is known that the use of the factors of production of the number of chickens, feed, labor and medicines has not been used efficiently in the production of broiler eggs with an open cage system and closed cages. This is due to the use of each of the factors of production is not maximized so it does not reach the level of efficiency.

The needs of cabbages tends to increase. Meanwhile, cabbage production is not optimal and just seasonal. However, demands of cabbages in export field are high so, it makes the cabbage farming is a strategic area to be developed. To increase production through increasing the use of inputs and using new technologies is relatively difficult because it requires high costs. Therefore,  increasing production by improving farming efficiency is a relevant option. Farmers’ managerial skills and their combining various production inputs ability will affect the production. Efficient use of input amount (allocative efficiency) and a good technical efficiency are important for increasing the production. Production of cabbage farming efficiency was analyzed by using stochastic frontier analysis (SFA). The results of the analysis showed that the technical, allocative and economic efficiency of cabbage farming in Karo District had not achieved. The average of the technical, allocative and economic efficiency values of the respondent were 0.697, 0.374 and 0.215. These results indicate that low efficiency is a contributing factor to the low productivity of the cabbage farmer respondents' in Karo District. Several factors that have a significant effect on the efficiency are farming experience, labor ratio, land ownership status and cabbage lifespan.
