Introduction. Diabetes mellitus is a common endocrine disease that can lead to retinal vascular damage caused by the spread of macular edema and the development of diabetic retinopathy. Currently, diabetic retinopathy is treated using retinal laser coagulation. However, since even modern systems do not demonstrate sufficient treatment efficacy, methods for providing laser coagulation support on the basis of patient data analysis are required.Aim. This paper aims to develop and study a method for estimating a safe distance between coagulates via the mathematical modeling of coagulation in order to provide laser coagulation support.Materials and methods. The problem of thermal conductivity is numerically modeled for laser action in a multilayer medium.Results. A method for estimating a safe distance between coagulates has been developed via the mathematical modeling of the thermal conductivity problem. An algorithm was established for reconstructing a three-dimensional fundus structure from OCT images. It was demonstrated that the convergence rate of the integro-interpolation method is higher than that of the finite difference method. The study revealed that the retina heats up to 45 ºС due to heat redistribution from the epithelial layer, as well as laser exposure. According to the study results, the developed method yields a safe distance of 180 µm. By increasing the delay between laser pulses by more than 10 ms, this distance can be reduced to 160 μm.Conclusion. The developed method can calculate distance corresponding to that used in medical practice. Besides safe distance, the use of this method will allow other laser coagulation parameters to be determined non-invasively: laser power and pulse duration recommended to achieve a therapeutic effect. These estimates can be used to automatically produce a preliminary laser coagulation plan to support diabetic retinopathy treatment.

A personalized medical approach can make diabetic retinopathy treatment more effective. To select effective methods of treatment, deep analysis and diagnostic data of a patient’s fundus are required. For this purpose, flat optical coherence tomography images are used to restore the three-dimensional structure of the fundus. Heat propagation through this structure is simulated via numerical methods. The article proposes algorithms for smooth segmentation of the retina for 3D model reconstruction and mathematical modeling of laser exposure while considering various parameters. The experiment was based on a two-fold improvement in the number of intervals and the calculation of the root mean square deviation between the modeled temperature values and the corresponding coordinates shown for the convergence of the integro-interpolation method (balance method). By doubling the number of intervals for a specific spatial or temporal coordinate, a decrease in the root mean square deviation takes place between the simulated temperature values by a factor of 1.7–5.9. This modeling allows us to estimate the basic parameters required for the actual practice of diabetic retinopathy treatment while optimizing for efficiency and safety. Mathematical modeling is used to estimate retina heating caused by the spread of heat from the vascular layer, where the temperature rose to 45 °C in 0.2 ms. It was identified that the formation of two coagulates is possible when they are located at least 180 μm from each other. Moreover, the distance can be reduced to 160 μm with a 15 ms delay between imaging.

For diabetic retinopathy treatment, laser coagulation is used in modern practice. During the laser surgery process, the parameters of laser exposure are selected manually by a doctor, which requires the doctor to have sufficient experience and knowledge to achieve a therapeutic effect. On the basis of mathematical modeling of the laser coagulation process, it is possible to estimate the crucial parameters without performing an operation. However, the retina has a rather complex structure, and when even low-cost numerical methods are used for modeling, it takes a long time to obtain a result. In this regard, the development of time-efficient algorithms for three-dimensional modeling is an urgent task, since the use of such algorithms will provide a compre-hensive study within a limited time. In this paper, we study the execution time of algorithms that implement various variations in the application of the splitting method and the finite difference method, adapted to the set problem of heat conduction. The study reveals the most efficient algorithm, which is then vectorized and implemented using the CUDA technology. The study was carried out using Intel Core i7-10875H and Nvidia RTX 2080 MAX Q and showed that an analog of the vector algorithm, focused on solving a multidimensional heat conduction problem, provides an acceleration of no more than 1.5 times compared to the sequential version. The developed vector-based algorithm, focused on the application of the sweep method in all directions of the three-dimensional problem, significantly reduces the time spent on copying into the memory of the video card and provides a 40-fold acceleration in comparison with the sequential three-dimensional modeling algorithm. On the basis of the same approach, a parallel algorithm of mathematical modeling was developed, which provided a 20-fold acceleration at full processor load.

When laser coagulation of eye retina is carried out, the laser beam is directed to target retinal areas selected by an ophthalmologist. The exposure to laser light produces a photocoagulate. When using laser coagulation, the main problem is selecting both the laser exposure areas that would cover all pathological zones and the laser exposure parameters to prevent retina damage. Any patient has an individual fundus structure. The individual structure of pathological and anatomical elements must be taken into account to achieve the desired therapeutic effect. The formation of coagulates in all hemorrhage-affected areas results in the desired therapeutic effect. The vascular layer must be heated to a sufficient temperature to form a coagulate. Such an effect can be predicted using mathematical modeling of laser exposure. In this paper, we consider methods of mathematical modeling of laser exposure based on the solution of a heat equation. The methods are compared in terms of their computational complexity and solution stability. An analysis of the possibility of predicting the therapeutic effect using methods of mathematical modeling of laser exposure is carried out.

ABSTRACTWe present the structure and thermoelectric properties of the new quaternary selenides K1+xM4–2xBi7+xSe15 (M = Sn, Pb) and K1-xSn5-xBi11+xSe22. The compounds K1+xM4-2xBi7+xSe15 (M= Sn, Pb) crystallize isostructural to A1+xPb4-2xSb7+xSe15 with A = K, Rb, while K1-xSn5-xBi11+xSe22 reveals a new structure type. In both structure types fragments of the Bi2Te3-type and the NaCl-type are connected to a three-dimensional anionic framework with K+ ions filled tunnels. The two structures vary by the size of the NaCl-type rods and are closely related to β-K2Bi8Se13 and K2.5Bi8.5Se14. The thermoelectric properties of K1+xM4-2xBi7+xSe15 (M = Sn, Pb) and K1-xSn5-xBi11+xSe22 were explored on single crystal and ingot samples. These compounds are narrow gap semiconductors and show n-type behavior with moderate Seebeck coefficients. They have very low thermal conductivity due to an extensive disorder of the metal atoms and possible “rattling” K+ ions.

The use of the traditional fabric simulation model evidently shows that it cannot accurately reflect the material properties of the real fabric. This is against the background that the simulation result is artificial or an imitation, which leads to a low simulation equation. In order to solve such problems from occurring, there is need for a novel model that is designed to enhance the essential properties required for a flexible fabric, the simulation effect of the fabric, and the efficiency of simulation equation solving. Therefore, the improvement study results will offer a meaningful and practical understanding within the field of garment automation design, three-dimensional animation, virtual fitting to mention but a few.

A new line-of-sight (LOS) decision algorithm applicable to simulation of electronic warfare (EW) is developed. For accurate simulation, the digital terrain elevation data (DTED) of the region to be analyzed must be reflected in the simulation, and millions of datasets are necessary in the EW environment. In order to obtain real-time results in such an environment, a technology that determines line-of-sight (LOS) quickly and accurately is very important. In this paper, a novel algorithm is introduced for determining LOS that can be applied in an EW environment with three-dimensional (3D) DTED. The proposed method shows superior performance as compared with the simplest point-to-point distance calculation method and it is also 50% faster than the conventional interpolation method. The DTED used in this paper is the data applied as level 0 for the Republic of Korea, and the decision of the LOS at approximately 1.8 million locations viewed by a reconnaissance plane flying 10 km above the ground is determined within 0.026 s.

AbstractThe present investigation deals with the steady three-dimensional flow and heat transfer of nanofluids due to stretching sheet in the presence of magnetic field and heat source. Three types of water based nanoparticles namely, copper (Cu), aluminium oxide (Al2O3), and titanium dioxide (TiO2) are considered in this study. The temperature dependent variable thermal conductivity and thermal radiation has been introduced in the energy equation. Using suitable similarity transformations the dimensional non-linear expressions are converted into dimensionless system and are then solved numerically by Runge-Kutta-Fehlberg scheme along with well-known shooting technique. The impact of various flow parameters on axial and transverse velocities, temperature, surface frictional coefficients and rate of heat transfer coefficients are visualized both in qualitative and quantitative manners in the vicinity of stretching sheet. The results reviled that the temperature and velocity of the fluid rise with increasing values of variable thermal conductivity parameter. Also, the temperature and normal velocity of the fluid in case of Cu-water nanoparticles is more than that of Al2O3- water nanofluid. On the other hand, the axial velocity of the fluid in case of Al2O3- water nanofluid is more than that of TiO2nanoparticles. In addition, the current outcomes are matched with the previously published consequences and initiate to be a good contract as a limiting sense.
