The major criteria for scholarly journals selection to be covered by the Web of Science are discussed. These criteria include the compliance of a journal with world standards, the international diversity, citation score of authors and editorial board members, the journal impact factor and journals self-citation. The demand for the unified transliteration of the authors name and the use of the unified English-language name and address of a research organization, as well as for including the information on funding organization (grant number and agency name) is emphasized.

<p>My seven years with Acta Polytechnica ended on June 30. The opportunity to lead this journal from a local list of reviewed periodicals to the prestigious databases – Web of Science, Scopus, Inspec, CAS and more – was a rewarding experience and privilege for me.</p><p>All this would have not been possible without the continual cooperation and understanding of many individuals, who contribute to putting the journal together.</p><p>In the first place there are authors of excellent submissions and reviewers who contributed their time, expertise, knowledge and experience to help the authors to improve their manuscripts and, through their comments and questions, gave them an inspiration for their further research. During my tenure I saw very satisfying trends in our submissions, mainly the increasing quality of the manuscripts submitted by young researchers.</p><p>I very appreciate the continual support of all the members of the editorial board. As experts in their field they contributed to the editorial process, provided invaluable advices and recommendations. In particular I would like to thank the internal board members, who collaborated with their colleagues from faculties and institutes. Without this motivating communication and cooperation across the university the AP would not be what it is.</p><p>A special thanks belongs to Tomáš Hejda. Seven years ago he created the image of the journal and set up typographic rules and standards. Last but not least, AP could not grow without the work of the language editors, especially Robin Healey.</p><p>And, of course, I would like to thank all the colleagues from the CTU Central Library for their support and intensive cooperation. Without them it would not be possible to set the necessary publishing standards and processes. Especially I would like to thank Lenka Němečková for being a source of energy and inspiration for the AP, and thank to the director of the CTU Central Library Marta Machytková for her support.</p><p>Finally, I would like to introduce and welcome an outstanding colleague and the new Editor-in-Chief Tereza Karlová. AbstractThe author of this article aims at comparing the publication activity of scholars from Poland, Slovakia and Hungary in education in the period of 1994-2014. Based on the comparative analyses, the author sought to determine: (1) trends in the scholarly performance in the analysed field of study (increase/decrease), (2) leading scientific institutions with the largest number of publications in the field of education, (3) scale of internationalization (international co-authorship). Furthermore (4) the author discusses the participation of scientists from the countries under analysis in the European (EU) and worldwide circulation of scholarly papers in the field of education. To perform the analyses, first the representative source had to be chosen. Considering that what is valued in science, also in Europe, is the prestige of a journal in which a paper is published while the overall science hierarchy is primarily based on the global grading of scholarly journals, we have chosen to use the data from the Thomson/Reuters database (Web of ScienceTM Core Collection) containing an index of selected papers with the so-called impact factor (IF), a well-known global indication of citation impact. Several publications in the journals with high IF is a confirmation of the high quality of scientific research while it also determines the level of internationalization of science. This study was conducted over twenty years (1994-2014) to make sure it was representative of the publishing activity and international output of scholars from the countries under analysis.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the rush to scientific and political judgements on the merits of hydroxychloroquine was fuelled by dubious papers which may have been published because the authors were not independent from the practices of the journals in which they appeared. This example leads us to consider a new type of illegitimate publishing entity, ‘self-promotion journals’ which could be deployed to serve the instrumentalisation of productivity-based metrics, with a ripple effect on decisions about promotion, tenure and grant funding, but also on the quality of manuscripts that are disseminated to the medical community and form the foundation of evidence-based medicine.

The bibliometric method has proven to be a powerful tool for the analysis of scientific publications, in such a way that allows rating the quality of the knowledge generating process, as well as its impact on firm´s environment. This article presents a comparison between two powerful bibliographic databases in terms of their coverage and the usefulness of their content. The comparison starts with a subject associated to the relationship between resources and capabilities. The outcomes show that the search results differ between both databases. The Web Of Science (WOS), has a greater coverage than SCOPUS has.  It also has a greater impact in terms of most cited authors and publications. The search results in the WOS yield articles from 2001, while Scopus yields articles from 1976, however, some of the latter are inconsistent with the topic being searched. The analysis points to a lack of studies regarding resources as foundations of firm´s capabilities; as a result, new research on this field is suggested.

This publication is an English-language version of the Directory of Georgian Scientific Periodicals. The directory contains the bibliographies of 149 international scientific periodicals that have been assigned ISSN by the ISSN International Centre and the Georgian National Centre and which reflect to a certain extent their preparedness for entering international scientific literature databases. The publication details are taken from official journal websites, are publisher-checked and certified. The directory data served as a basis for the Georgian scholarly journals’ monitoring and identifying the international scientific literature database entry criteria: publications’ peer-review, periodicity, independent website, international editorial board membership, DOI (Digital Object Identifier) assignment, the state of indexing in academic databases, etc.

Dear Reader, On the 22nd of February this year, INDIAN DRUGS celebrated its 55th Annual Day at the IIT Bombay campus in Powai. 55 years of publishing a Scientific Journal regularly every month is truly an accomplishment of which I am grateful to be able to contribute to. I sincerely appreciate all our Editorial Advisory Board and Editorial Board Members and the large number of reviewers who took time off and actively participated in the celebrations. The enthusiasm and support of all present at this grand event is an indication of the commitment to the cause of improving the quality of pharmaceutical research being conducted in India. The continued commitment of a large number of our Editorial Advisory Board and Editorial Board members has been a constant source of motivation for all of us in the Editorial Committee of INDIAN DRUGS to improve the publication.

SummaryBackground: The journal Methods of Information in Medicine, founded in 1962, has now completed its 50th volume. Its publications during the last five decades reflect the formation of a discipline that deals with information in biomedicine and health care. Objectives: To report about 1) the journal‘s origin, 2) the individuals who have significantly contributed to it, 3) trends in the journal’s aims and scope, 4) influential papers and 5) major topics published in Methods over the years.Methods: Methods included analysing the correspondence and journal issues in the archives of the editorial office and of the publisher, citation analysis using the ISI and Scopus databases, and analysing the articles’ Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) in MEDLINE.Results: In the journal’s first 50 years 208 editorial board members and/or editors contributed to the journal’s development, with most individuals coming from Europe and North America. The median time of service was 11 years. At the time of analysis 2,456 articles had been indexed with Me SH. Topics included computerized systems of various types, informatics methodologies, and topics related to a specific medical domain. Some MeSH topic entries were heavily and regularly represented in each of the journal‘s five decades (e.g. information systems and medical records), while others were important in a particular decade, but not in other decades (e.g. punched-card systems and systems integration). Seven papers were cited more than 100 times and these also covered a broad range of themes such as knowledge representation, analysis of biomedical data and knowledge, clinical decision support and electronic patient records. Conclusions: Methods of Information in Medicine is the oldest international journal in biomedical informatics. The journal’s development over the last 50 years correlates with the formation of this new discipline. It has and continues to stress the basic methodology and scientific fundamentals of organizing, representing and analysing data, information and knowledge in biomedicine and health care. It has and continues to stimulate multi-disciplinary communication on research that is devoted to high-quality, efficient health care, to quality of life and to the progress of biomedicine and the health sciences.

To assess and promote internationally representative scholarship, several past studies have examined the geographic affiliation of journals’ editorial board members and authors. The present study is the first known to examine this with journals devoted to school and educational psychology. After systematically identifying all peer-reviewed scholarly journals around the globe that are specifically devoted to school or educational psychology ( N = 45), the goals of this study were to (a) report key characteristics about each journal’s editorial board, and (b) examine the extent to which geographic affiliation (country where one is employed) is consistent among a journal’s editorial board members and recent authors. One key finding revealed that editorial boards of the discipline’s journals represent individuals from all global regions, but many global regions (e.g. Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America) are underrepresented. Another finding showed that the vast majority of journals evidence strong similarities in geographic affiliation between editorial board members and authors. Findings, implications, limitations, and future research directions are discussed in the context of internationalization.
