Background: Podocyte injury has a direct causal relationship with proteinuria and glomerulosclerosis and, on a chronic level, can lead to irreversible disease progression. Podocyte injury plays a critically decisive role in the development of proteinuric kidney disease. In recent years, the research on podocyte injury has developed rapidly all over the world. However, no report has summarized the field of podocyte injury as a whole to date. Using bibliometric analysis, this study aimed to evaluate the current state of worldwide podocyte injury research in the last 30 years and identify important achievements, primary research fields, and emerging trends.Methods: Publications related to podocyte injury were retrieved from Web of Science Core Collection. HistCite, VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and the Bibliometrix Package were used for bibliometric analysis and visualization, including the analysis of the overall distribution of annual outputs, leading countries, active institutions and authors, core journals, co-cited references, and keywords. Total global citation score and total local citation score were used to assess the quality and impact of publications.Results: A total of 2,669 publications related to podocyte injury were identified. Publications related to podocyte injury tended to increase continuously. A total of 10,328 authors from 2,171 institutions in 69 countries published studies related to podocyte injury. China (39.46%) was the most prolific country, and the number of citations of studies in the United States (cited 36,896 times) ranked first. Moin A Saleem, John Cijiang He, and Zhihong Liu were the top three contributing authors, and Journal of the American Society of Nephrology and Kidney International were the most popular journals in the field. “Diabetic nephropathy” is the primary focus area of podocyte injury research, and “autophagy,” “microRNA,” and “inflammation” were the top keywords of emerging research hotspots, and traditional Chinese medicine monomer may be a neglected research gap.Conclusion: Our research found that global publications on podocyte injury have increased dramatically. Diabetic nephropathy is the main research field of podocyte injury, whereas autophagy, microRNA, and inflammation are the top topics getting current attention from scholars and which may become the next focus in podocyte injury research.

The study attempts to map the trends across the scholarly publications published in the field of “Fake News.” Data were collected from one of the extensive indexing/abstracting services, Web of Science, the top indexing/abstracting service and a proprietary of Clarivate Analytics. The study reveals that the research on “Fake News” is mainly published as “articles” in English. Research on “Fake News” in terms of publication count and citation score shows a steady increase. “Lecture Notes in Computer Science,” “Professional De La Informacion,” and “New Media Society” stay as the prioritised platforms for researchers to publish their research. “Computer Science,” “Communication,” “Engineering,” “Information Science and Library Science,” and “Government Law” are the prioritised research domains in which research on “Fake News” stays a high priority. The highest number of articles are published from the U.S.A. The U.S.A., England, and Germany have the highest collaboration (links) with other countries, and the USA-China collaboration ranks first. Arizona State University is the top-ranked institute with the highest number of articles published on “Fake News,” and “Pennycook G” stays the most productive author. Six hundred ninety funding agencies support the funded research papers with The National Science Foundation N.S.F., U.S.A. as the top sponsor.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is an intractable disorder associated with macrophages. This bibliometric analysis was applied to identify the characteristics of global scientific output, the hotspots, and frontiers about macrophages in ALI over the past 10 years. We retrieved publications published from 2011 to 2020 and their recorded information from Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-expanded) of Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). Bibliometrix package was used to analyze bibliometric indicators, and the VOSviewer was used to visualize the trend and hotspots of researches on macrophages in ALI. Altogether, 2,632 original articles were reviewed, and the results showed that the annual number of publications (Np) concerning the role of macrophages in ALI kept increasing over the past 10 years. China produced the most papers, the number of citations (Nc) and H-index of the USA ranked first. Shanghai Jiaotong University and INT IMMUNOPHARMACOL were the most prolific affiliation and journal, respectively. Papers published by Matute-Bello G in 2011 had the highest local citation score (LCS). Recently, the keywords “NLRP3” and “extracellular vesicles” appeared most frequently. Besides, researches on COVID-19–induced ALI related to macrophages seemed to be the hotspot recently. This bibliometric study revealed that publications related to macrophages in ALI tend to increase continuously. China was a big producer and the USA was an influential country in this field. Most studies were mainly centered on basic researches in the past decade, and pathways associated with the regulatory role of macrophages in inhibiting and attenuating ALI have become the focus of attention in more recent studies. What is more, our bibliometric analysis showed that macrophages play an important role in COVID-19–induced ALI and may be a target for the treatment of COVID-19.

Abstract This study is one of the first that uses the recently introduced open access (OA) labels in the Web of Science (WoS) metadata to investigate whether OA articles published in Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) listed journals experience a citation advantage in comparison to subscription journal articles, specifically those of which no self-archived versions are available. Bibliometric data on all articles and reviews indexed in WoS, and published from 2013 to 2015, were analysed. In addition to normalised citation score (NCS), we used two additional measures of citation advantage: whether an article was cited at all; and whether an article is among the most frequently cited percentile of articles within its respective subject area (pptopX %). For each WoS subject area, the strength of the relationship between access status (whether an article was published in an OA journal) and each of these three measures was calculated. We found that OA journal articles experience a citation advantage in very few subject areas and, in most of these subject areas, the citation advantage was found on only a single measure of citation advantage, namely whether the article was cited at all. Our results lead us to conclude that access status accounts for little of the variability in the number of citations an article accumulates. The methodology and the calculations that were used in this study are described in detail and we believe that the lessons we learnt, and the recommendations we make, will be of much use to future researchers interested in using the WoS OA labels, and to the field of citation advantage in general.

Background: We aimed to use the scientometric approach to evaluate immunological studies on the subject of sulfur mustard over the past 20 years. Methods: In this scientometric study, the Web of Science Core Collection was searched on the studies about sulfur mustard. The published papers related to the field of immunology were retrieved from these papers. HistCite software and VOSviewer were the applied software packages for bibliometric analysis, information visualization, and creating bibliometric networks. Results: Over the past 20 years, 741 researchers from 22 countries have published 201 scientific papers in 95 journals. Iran and the United States with 93 and 68 published articles ranked at the top. The Journal of International Immunopharmacology, with 33 published papers, 439 Total Global Citation Score (TGCS), and 105 Total Local Citation Score (TLCS) was the most productive and most influential in this regard. The paper entitled "Biomonitoring of exposure to chemical warfare agents: A review" and another paper entitled "SardashtIran Cohort Study of Chemical Warfare Victims: Design and Methods" were the most influential papers in this topic with 200 TGCS and 27 TLCS, respectively. The most productive and the most influential centers were “Immunoregulation Research Center of Shahed University” and “The Janbazan Medical and Engineering Research Center (JMERC),” respectively. Conclusion: The result of our report as the unique scientometric evaluation of the research on sulfur mustard and Immunology can be used as a roadmap for authors, researchers, and policymakers to define the best ways to allocate their financial and executive resources.

Aim: To add to previous analyses and describe the trends in MSA research from three decades, 1988 to 2018, through assessing the medical literature. Additionally, a collaboration network was analyzed to determine the most common process in development of MSA research. Methods: This research was a descriptive survey with a scientometric approach. The data for the present study were collected from the Web of Science (WoS) and search strategy based on Medical Subject Heading (MeSH) term. In this research, the data analysis was performed based on collaboration network and theme analysis. Results and Conclusion: In this study, 6530 articles were retrieved from 1988 to 2018 in three different periods. These articles were drafted by 39,184 authors, 3,865 organizations, 80 countries, and 832 journals. Further, 287 articles with more than 100 citations were found. The global citation score (GCS) was 250,834 times and the average cited times per articles was reported as 3,841. The MSA research field demonstrated a diagram for a chronological period to assess the most relevant themes. Each diagram depended on the sum of documents linked to each research topic. Scientometric analysis of the field of MSA can be regarded as a roadmap for future research and policymaking in this important area.

Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a precancerous state which affects the oral cavity. The etiology of OSMF is due to various factors like chilies consumption, deficiency of nutrition, areca nut chewing habits, genetic susceptibility, altered salivary constituents, and autoimmunity and collagen disorders.  The present study is undertaken to find out the publication trends on OSMF during 1967-2016. The study mainly focus on year and decade wise research output, national and international collaborations, top journals for publications, most prolific authors, authorship pattern, citations pattern and highly cited papers on OSMF. The results indicate that highest growth rate of publications occurred between the years 1997-2006. India’s research share, citation score and h index was highest among all countries. Central South University, China topped the scene among all institutes. The maximum publications were two authored publications. CP Chiang of National Taiwan University was found to be the most prolific author.

Background  Choices facing a Canadian scholarly journal such as Canadian Public Policy/Analyse de politiques (CPP/Adp) include both its degree of Canadian content and its level of internet accessibility. Analysis  The “Canadian-ness” of CPP/Adp handicaps its upward citation score trend but is intrinsic to informing Canadian public policy. Internet open access would not likely boost citation scores but would likely enhance its policy role. Open access hasn large negative revenue implications. Conclusion and implications  CPP/Adp chose not to reapply for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Aid to Scholarly Journal program. e revenue loss of meeting the program’s new open access criteria, even with the permitted one-year embargo, was estimated to exceed the prospective grant. e CPP/Adp continues other timely ways to make content internet accessible.Contexte  Les choix pour une revue savante canadienne telle que Canadian Public Policy/Analyse de politiques (CPP/Adp) incluent à la fois sa proportion de contenu canadien et son accessibilité sur internet. Analyse  Le caractère canadien de CCP/Adp limite combien on le cite mais est indispensable par ce qu’il contribue à la politique publique canadienne. À ce titre, un libre accès à la revue sur internet ne ferait probablement pas augmenter son indice de citations mais améliorerait son impact sur les politiques. Le libre accès en revanche occasionnerait une baisse de revenus. Conclusion et implications CPP/Adp a choisi de ne pas se réinscrire au programme Aide aux revues savantes du Conseil de recherches en sciences humaines. CPP/Adp, en rencontrant les nouveaux critères de ce programme pour le libre accès—même avec la période d’embargo de 12 mois permise—perdrait davantage de revenus que le montant probable de la subvention. CPP/Adp a donc recours à d’autres méthodes opportunespour rendre son contenu accessible en ligne.

The debate about Circular Economy (CE) has been increasingly enriched by academics through a vast array of contributions, based on several theoretical perspectives and emanating from several research domains. However, current research still falls short of providing a holistic and broader view of CE, one that combines existing themes and emerging research trends. Accordingly, based on a Systematic Literature Network Analysis, this paper tackles this gap. First, a Citation Network Analysis is used to unearth the development of the CE literature based on papers’ references, whilst the Main Path is traced to detect the seminal papers in the field through time. Second, to consider the literature in its broader extent, a Keywords Co-Occurrence Network Analysis is conducted based on papers’ keywords, whereby all papers in the dataset, including the non-cited papers, are assessed. Additionally, a Global Citation Score analysis is conducted to uncover the recent breakthrough research, in addition to the Burst Analysis used to detect the dynamic development of CE literature over time. By doing so, the paper explores the development of the CE body of knowledge, reveals its dynamic evolution over time, detects its main theoretical perspectives and research domains, and highlights its emerging topics. Our findings unfold the evidence of eight main trends of research about CE, unearth the path through which the CE concept emerged and has been growing, and concludes with promising avenues for future research.

This paper introduces a simple agglomerative clustering method to identify large publishing consortia with at least 20 authors and 80% shared authorship between articles. Based on Scopus journal articles from 1996–2018, under these criteria, nearly all (88%) of the large consortia published research with citation impact above the world average, with the exceptions being mainly the newer consortia, for which average citation counts are unreliable. On average, consortium research had almost double (1.95) the world average citation impact on the log scale used (Mean Normalised Log Citation Score). At least partial alphabetical author ordering was the norm in most consortia. The 250 largest consortia were for nuclear physics and astronomy, involving expensive equipment, and for predominantly health-related issues in genomics, medicine, public health, microbiology and neuropsychology. For the health-related issues, except for the first and last few authors, authorship seem to primarily indicate contributions to the shared project infrastructure necessary to gather the raw data. It is impossible for research evaluators to identify the contributions of individual authors in the huge alphabetical consortia of physics and astronomy and problematic for the middle and end authors of health-related consortia. For small-scale evaluations, authorship contribution statements could be used when available.
