ECLECTIC METHOD: AN ALTERNATIVE TO SUPPORT GRAMMAR MASTERY TO TWELVE GRADERS

This research is aimed to know the use of Eclectic Method towards students grammar mastery. Due to the low grammar score and less motivation of the students to learn grammar as one of the material that should be mastered by the students integratedly with the other material. The research was a two-cycle classroom action research conducted to twelfth graders of social department at MAN 5 Jombang. This study used grammar tests, observation sheet and field notes as the instruments. The research finding proved that eclectic method was effective to be conducted in teaching English, mainly in grammar class. The data showed that the grammar score was improved significantly from the average score of 55.87 in preliminary study to become 76.65 in cycle 1 and 88.19 in cycle 2. The participation of the students during the cycle was also improved from cycle to cycle.

<em>This study intended to describe how the process of teaching and learning using WebQuest can develop the ninth graders’ writing ability of report text. The subjects included the 15 ninth graders. The students were taught to be able to write report texts by using WebQuest after they visit the web addresses given in the two cycles of classroom action research. Their writing ability achievement and the information on students’ interaction during the teaching and learning process were attained by overseeing writing products at the end of each cycle and by using observation checklists and field notes. The result indicated that WebQuest was successful in developing the students’ writing ability of report texts. The comparison of the students’ scores in the preliminary study and in Cycle 2 was significantly developed. In preliminary study, the students’ average score was 50.8. While in the cycle two, the students’ score was 76.8.</em>

This study aims to apply the syndicate group discussion method to increase students' learning activeness of fifth class in SDN (public elemantary school) Beru 02 Wlingi on legislation central and local levels matter. This type of research is a classroom action research. Collecting data using observation sheet and field notes. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis. The results of study showed that the syndicate group discussion method can increase students' learning activeness, with increase the average score from the first cycle to the second cycle is 23.67. In the preliminary study, the researchers found that the average value of fluency in English speaking is 2.25. This is because of the teacher always uses monotonous, less enjoyable learning strategy and the teacher only focuses on completing the material so that the learning process can only transfer knowledge so that the level of mastery of the material is low which ultimately decreases student achievement. To overcome this problem, researchers propose a strategy in teaching speaking skill, namely role-playing learning strategy. This study is designed to improve fluency in English speaking by using role playing learning strategy. This study aims to explain how role-playing learning strategy can improve fluency in English speaking in the 4th semester, English Study Program, Business Administration Department, State Polytechnic of Madiun. This study uses a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design which is collaborative in nature where researchers and teacher collaborate in carrying out this research. Researcher act as observer while English teacher become collaborator of researcher in implementing role playing learning strategy. This research was carried out in a cycle that refers to procedures for action research, namely planning, implementing, observing, and reflecting. Each cycle in this study consisted of two meetings. The research data was collected through several instruments, namely evaluation of English speaking, questionnaires, and field notes. The subjects of this study were 4th semester of D3 Program students, English Study Program, Business Administration Department, State Polytechnic of Madiun. The results of the overall average score of fluency in English speaking in the first cycle of 2.44, in the second cycle of 2.89, and in the third cycle of 3.19. Classroom action research can be stopped in cycle III because it is in accordance with the average criteria of success is 3.01. The interesting of students towards the implementation of role-playing learning strategy shows that students are happy and interested in implementing role playing learning strategy.

  Abstract   In the process of learning a foreign language, vocabulary is one of the important language elements that must be mastered by the learners. The ability to understand the language depends on one’s knowledge of vocabulary besides the other elements of language itself. In reality, most of the students in first semester at IKIP Siliwangi face some problems related to vocabulary mastery. To improve the students’ vocabulary, the lecturer need to know what technique is the most suitable for the students. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR). The objectives of the study are: 1) Finding out whether or not Magic Sentences technique can improves the students’ vocabulary 2) Finding out classroom situation when Magic Sentences technique implemented in vocabulary mastery. The finding was supported by the result of students’ vocabulary scores. The average score of pre test was 61.14. After the implementation of Magic Sentences in every cycle, the students’ vocabulary score were getting better. It can be seen from the result of students’ average score Cycle 1 was 67.30 and Cycle 2 was 80.24. It can be concluded that Magic Sentences can improve students’ reading interest and improve reading classroom into a better situation.   Keywords: Magic sentences; vocabulary mastery; CAR

Writing is one of important skill in English subject beside the other skills. To improve the students’ writing skill, we have to know what strategy is the most suitable for the students’. This research used Classroom Action Research. The research was on two cycles with total meetings were seven; three meetings were for tests, and four meetings were for treatment. Each cycle covered the step of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The population of this research was the Seventh Grade Students of SMP Pandu Nusantara in the academic year of 2018/2019 which consisted of 30 students. The average score of pretest was 45. After the implementation of brainswriting strategy in every cycle, the students’ writing skill score were getting better. It can be seen from the research of students’ average score Cycle 1 was 50 and Cycle was 71. It can be concluded that brainswriting strategy can improve students’ writing skill and improve writing classroom into a better situation.

This research aimed to explain the improvement of the students’ writing ability and the students’ response through the implementation of “Transition-Action-Details” strategy in teaching writing. The researcher used a classroom action research principle to collect the data that consisted of two cycles. Each cycle consisted of four meetings. The findings of the research were the improvement of students’ writing ability in cycle I to  cycle II was 12.2%, and the other side, students’ participation or activeness at cycle I in the 1st meeting was 45%, 2nd meeting 59%, 3rd meeting was 63% and 4th meeting was 73 %. So the average score was 60%. Where in cycle II, in the 1st meeting was 67%, 2nd meeting was 72%, 3rd meeting was 68% and 4th meeting was 78%. There is a significant score in the average score (71.87%). Based on the average score above, it had improvement from cycle I to cycle II (11.64 %).

This research was based on the researcher's preliminary study which found that the students could not comprehend the meaning of texts in their textbook.   This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to improve the students’ reading comprehension in narrative text through simplified text at grade VIII of SMP Budhi Luhur Pekanbaru. The research was administered to the second year students of SMP Budhi Luhur Pekanbaru. The total population was 34 students. After analyzing the data, the researcher found a significant effect of simplified text toward reading at the second-year SMP Budhi Luhur Pekanbaru students, where the average score from the based score was 58. It increased to 66 at the end of the cycle I. Finally, the average score of cycle II was 75. So it can be concluded that simplified text can increase the students' reading skill at grade VIII SMP Budhi Luhur Pekanbaru

This research was conducted at MTs Negeri 2 Pekanbaru based on phenomenon that most of the students were less vocabulary. The purpose of this research was to improve the students’ vocabulary mastery by using ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) method as a teaching method and factor that influence it. The research was a Classroom Action Research. The total number of the sample was 30 students at grade VIII.1 of MTs Negeri 2 Pekanbaru. The researcher did the research in one cycle (five meetings including the test). The data was collected by using vocabulary test, observation checklist, and field notes. There was improvement from based score to cycle 1. In the based score, noun was 65.32, verb was 69.32, adjective 65.32, and adverb was 66.64 with average score 66.67. The result of cycle 1, noun 74.64, and verb was 81.32, adjective was 76.64, and adverb was 82.This research, showed that there were some factors influencing their improvement. The students were engaged in activities, having fun, and active in learning process. The teacher’s approach in explaining material was clear enough and classroom condition as well as method supported the learning achievement. After conducting this research by using ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) method improved in cycle 1. Referring to the result, researcher concluded that ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) method can improve the students’ vocabulary mastery.

This study aims to determine the improvement of listening ability in grade V students in Lengkong State Elementary School using audio media. The type of research used is a case study with Classroom Action Research (collaborative Classroom Action). The form of collaborative classroom action research with colleagues as observers. The subject of this research is the students of grade V of State Elementary School Lengkong which amounted to 18 people. The object of this research is the ability to listen to folklore. The research design used was Kemmis and Mc.Taggart. Data collection methods used in this study are: 1) test, 2) observation, and 3) field notes. Data analysis technique is done descriptively qualitative. The results showed that learning to listen to folklore using audio media can improve the ability of listening to folklore. Based on the results of the pretest cycle 1 students on average get the score of listening ability to students in the first cycle, the students get an average score of 50, then on cycle II score The average class increased to 87.5, this shows there is an increase in listening ability in grade V students on the material Responding to events that occur around orally.

This research is a classroom action research that doing in one of SMK Kesehatan in Kabupaten Bandung Barat. Classroom action research is a research that did by teacher in the class to improve students ability in a learning teaching process, in this case their score. This research is done for maintain or solving the teaching English problems in the class. Listening skill is the one of the skill in language that important for our life. Every person starts their capability in language with great listening training. With this skill we can processing some informations and messages that tells by other person into our own understanding. Innovation in learning method such as using application in mobile phone surely can catch students attention in learning English, this teaching media can help them to improve their listening skill. And also can reduce some boredome in teaching leaning process. This research was done by using Listen English Audio Book smartphone application. This application contain the sound of narrators that telling the stories. It also contain the written text of the story which narrators tells about. The writer did a pretest before she start the treatment, the treatment itself and post test after the treatment to measure students ability in listening skill. At the pretest, the student’s average score are 4.56 move to the first post test the student’s average score increase to 6.68 and continued increase up to 7.55 at second posttest.
