Tanaman ubi jalar ungu (Ipomoea batatas L.) mudah didapat dan banyak kegunaannya,terutama bagian umbi ubi jalar ungu yang banyak diolah masyarakat sedangkan bagian daun dan batang pemanfaatnya belum maksimal. Umbinya telah diketahui mempunyai aktivitas dapat menurunkan kadar gula darah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efek penurunan kadar glukosa darah dari ekstrak etanol daun dan batang ubi jalar ungu serta golongan senyawa yang terkandung dalam ekstrak. Desain penelitian menggunakan randomized pre-test post-test kontrol grup desain. Pada penelitian ini menggunakan 15 ekor tikus jantan galur wistar dan dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok yaitu kontrol negatif (akuades), kontrol positif (metformin 45 mg/kgBB), kelompok perlakuan ubi jalar ungu dosis 150; 300; 600 mg/kgBB, sebelumnya masing –masing tikus dinduksi dengan aloksan 150 mg/kgBB, dan dilakukan pemantauan selama 14 hari. Pemeriksaan kadar gula darah menggunakan spektrofotometer visibel dengan panjang gelombang 500 nm. Data dianalisis secara statistik untuk mengetahui perubahan kadar gula darah. Hasil yang didapat dengan pemberian ekstrak pada dosis 150, 300, dan 600 mg/kgBB selama pemantauan 14 hari dapat menurunkan kadar gula darah berturut – turut menjadi 96,33 ± 4,72 ; 66,67 ± 16,16 ; dan 142,67 ± 27,06 mg/dL. Ekstrak etanol daun dan batang ubi jalar ungu memiliki kandungan senyawa yaitu alkaloid, flavonoid, saponin, tanin dan senyawa fenolik.   The purple sweet potato plant (Ipomoea batatas L.) is easy to obtain and has many uses, especially the purple sweet potato tubers which are mostly utilized by the people, while the utilization of its leaves and stem are not maximized. Its tuber has been known to have activity in  reducing blood sugar levels.This research aimed to evaluate the effect of ethanol extract of leaves and stems of purple sweet potatoes in reducing blood glucose level as well as to identify its chemical constituents. The study was design by a randomized pre-test post-test control group. The animal used were 15 wistar male rats which divided into 5 groups, these include negative control (distilled water), positive control (metformin 45 mg/kgBW), treatment group of purple sweet potatoes with the doses of 150; 300; 600 mg/kgBW, before the treatment all rats were induced by aloxan 150 mg/kgBW, and all groups were observed for 14 days. Blood glucose level was determined using UV-Vis spectophotometer at wavelength of 500 nm. The data were analyzed statistically to evaluate blood glucose level alteration.  The result showed that the extract at doses of 150, 300, dan 600 mg/kgBW decrease blood glucose level in 14 days observation, the blood glucose levels were 96.33 ± 4.72 ; 66.67 ± 16.16 ; and  142.67 ± 27.06 mg/dL, respectively. ABSTRACT This research was aimed to observe the effect of the addition of purple sweet potato flour in the making of tempeh analog sausage on antioxidant activity, anthocyanin total, reducing sugar content and antioxidant capability on decreasing of blood glucose level in diabetic mice. The method that was used in this research was Completely Randomized Design (CRD) which consist of five treatments i.e. 0%; 10%; 15%; 20% and 25% addition of purple sweet potato flour by four replications. The data were analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) at α = 5% using Co-stat and SPSS 21 for windows software by further analyzed Polynomial Orthogonal Method (POM). The results showed that the addition of purple sweet potato flour treatments gave significant effect on antioxidant activity, anthocyanin total, and decreasing of blood glucose level in diabetic mice which feed by the tempeh analog sausage, however gave non significant effect on the reducing glucose content of the tempeh analog sausage. The 25% addition of  purple sweet potato flour was the best treatment by 31.44% of antioxidant activity; 8.22 mg/L of anthocyanin total; 1.13% of reducing glucose content and could decrease blood glucose level in diabetic mice equal to 387 mg/dL. ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji pengaruh penambahan tepung ubi jalar ungu pada pembuatan sosis analog tempe terhadap aktivitas antioksidan, total antosianin, kadar gula reduksi dan kemampuan antioksidannya untuk menurunkan kadar gula darah mencit diabetes. Metode yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari lima perlakuan yakni penambahan tepung ubi jalar ungu 0%, 10%, 15%, 20% dan 25% dengan 4 kali ulangan. Hasil pengamatan dianalisis menggunakan Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) pada α = 5% menggunakan software Co-Stat dan SPSS 21 for windows dengan uji lanjut menggunakan metode ortogonal polinomial (MOP). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan penambahan tepung ubi jalar ungu memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap aktivitas antioksidan, total antosianin dan penurunan kadar gula darah mencit diabetes yang diberi makan sosis analog tempe, namun memberikan pengaruh yang tidak signifikan terhadap kadar gula reduksi sosis analog tempe. Penambahan 25% tepung ubi jalar ungu merupakan perlakuan terbaik dengan karakteristik aktivitas antioksidan 31,44%; total antosianin 8,22 mg/L; kadar gula reduksi 1,13% dan mampu menurunkan kadar gula darah mencit diabetes sebesar 387 mg/dL. Natural sources of antioxidants are derived from fruits, vegetables and wine, whilst artificial supplements are from teas and spices. Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) is an excellent natural source of vitamins and minerals, and likely a great source of antioxidant. The objective of this study  is to analyze the antioxidant activity of orange sweet potato (Vitato) and  purple sweet potato (All purple), prepared as heat dry and  moist heat for 30 minutes at 100oC. All the samples were obtained from Pasir Puteh and MARDI Telong, Bachok, Kelantan, respectively. Both samples were soaked into methanol to obtain the crude extract prior to analyzing for antioxidant activity by using 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH). IC50 values of dry heat and moist heat Vitato were 0.40mg/L and 0.20mg/L while dry heat and moist heat, All purple were 0.32mg/L and 0.19mg/L, respectively. Both moist heat samples enjoyed higher scavenging activities compared to dry heat samples. However, the All purple sample of moist heat is the most superior one. Significant difference of IC50values between dry heat and moist heat sample differ significantly. Thus, this study clearly demonstrated that moist heat sweet potato exhibited  excellent increase in antioxidant activity.

Background : Hyperglycemia on diabetes mellitus can cause increasing of free radicals production. Free radicals caused lipid peroxidation reaction by forming malondialdehyde (MDA). β-carotene has antioxidant activity may inhibit the formation of ROS.Objective : To prove the effect of multilevel doses β-carotene 1 mg/kg BW, 20 mg/kg BW and 20 mg/kg BW on alternate days within 30 days orally supplementation on blood glucose level and MDA level on Sprague Dawley male rats induced by streptozotocin (STZ). Methods : Thirty rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: X1=Negative control/diabetic, X2 (STZ 40 mg/kg BW + BC 1 mg/kg BW), X3 (STZ 40 mg/kg BW + BC 10mg/kg BW), X4 (STZ 40 mg/kg BW + BC 20 mg/kg BW), X5 (technic control/non diabetic). β-Carotene supplementation was given by nasogastric tube on alternate days within thirty days. Blood glucose level was measured by GOD-PAP and MDA level by ELISA with TBARS methods. Data was analized using paired t-test, wilcoxon, one way anova and post hoc bonferroni. Results : there was a significant difference of blood glucose level (p = 0,0001) and MDA level (p = 0,0001) after suplementation β-carotene on alternate days within 30 days orally. β-carotene 10 mg/kg BW was the most effective and efficient dose to lowering blood glucose, while 20 mg/kg BW to lowering MDA level. Conclusion : The multilevel doses β-carotene (1 mg/kg BW, 10 mg/kg BW and 20 mg/kg BW) on alternate days within 30 days orally supplementation can decrease blood glucose and MDA level. β-carotene 10 mg/kg BW is the most effecetive and efficient to decrease blood glucose and β-carotene 20 mg/kg BW to decrease MDA level.

Telah dilakukan penelitian kadar glukosa darah tikus wistar yang hiperglikemia pada pemberian ekstrak etanol dan heksana tumbuhan suruhan (Peperomia pellucida [L]. Kunth). Penelitian ini menggunakan metode uji toleransi glukosa, terhadap 16 ekor tikus jantan wistar yang hiperglikemia akibat diinduksi sukrosa. Selanjutnya, tikus dibagi dalam 4 kelompok perlakuan yaitu kelompok kontrol negatif (K-) diberi CMC 0,5%, kelompok kontrol positif (K+) diberi Glibenklamid dosis 0,45 mg/kgBB, kelompok ekstrak etanol tumbuhan suruhan (EETS) dosis 40 mg/kgBB, dan kelompok ekstrak heksana tumbuhan suruhan (EHTS) dosis 40 mg/kgBB. Setiap kelompok terdiri dari 4 ekor tikus. Kadar glukosa darah tikus diukur dengan alat Drglukometer pada menit ke-30, 60, dan 120 setelah diberikan perlakuan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada menit ke-120, kadar glukosa darah tikus pada kelompok EETS dan EHTS masing-masing turun sebesar 54,57% dan 51,25%, dan tidak berbeda nyata dengan K(+). Kadar glukosa darah kelompok K(+) dan EETS pada menit ke-120 mencapai kadar yang sama dengan keadaan basal (normal). Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa ekstrak etanol dan heksana tumbuhan suruhan dengan dosis 40 mg/KgBB memiliki efek hipoglikemik pada tikus jantan wistar yang hiperglikemia.A study on blood glucose level in hyperglycemic wistar rats treated with ethanol and hexane extracts of suruhan (Peperomia pellucida [L]. Kunth) had been done. This study used glucose tolerance test method applied on 16 male wistar rats which were hyperglycemic by sucrose induction. The rats were divided into four treatment groups, each of which contained four rats, which were negative control (K-) group treated with CMC 0.5%, positive control (K+) group treated with glibenclamide 0.45 mg/kg body weight, group treated with ethanol extract of P. pellucida (EETS) 40 mg/kg body weight, and group treated with hexane extract of P. pellucida (EHTS) 40 mg/kg body weight. Glucose level in rat blood was measured using Drglucometer at minute 30, 60, and 120 after treatment. The results showed that at minute 120 the blood glucose level of EETS and EHTS was decreased by 54.57% and 51.25%, respectively, which were not significantly different from K(+). At minute 120, blood glucose of K(+) and EETS reached the same level with that of basal (normal) state. It was concluded that ethanol and hexane extract of P. pellucida 40 mg/kg body weight had hypoglycemic effect on hyperglycemic wistar rats.

ABSTRACT Purple Sweet Potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) and Red Cana Flower (Canna coccinea Mill.) contain natural dyes (anthocyanins) which are used as an alternative natural dyes as well as natural antioxidants. This study aims to make and discover the physical evaluation of blusher preparations using natural dyes in a combination of Purple Sweet Potato extract and Red Cana Flower with a concentration of 15%: 15%, 15%: 20 %, 20%: 20%. This research used laboratory experimental methods. The results of the physical properties test showed that the resulting preparations gave a light purple to purplish pink color, had a distinctive odor of pafrum oleum rose, had a soft texture, all preparations had a homogeneous composition, the ph value of the preparations ranged from 6.00 – 6.45, the best polish at concentrations dye 20%: 20%, for 14 days of observation the color on all preparations did not change with light, and the most preferred preparations by researcher are those with dye concentrations of 20%: 20%. It shows that it can be concluded that a combination of ethanol extract of Purple Sweet Potato and Red Cana Flower. Can be used as a natural dye in blush preparations. Keywords:  Ipomoea batatas L., Canna coccinea Mill., Blusher. ABSTRAK  Ubi Jalar Ungu (Ipomoea batatas L.) dan Bunga Kana Merah (Canna coccinea Mill.) mengadung pewarna alami (antosianin) yang digunakan sebagai zat pewarna alami alternatif mapun sebagai antioksidan alami. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat serta mengetahui evaluasi fisik sediaan perona pipi dengan memanfaatkan pewarna alami pada kombinasi ekstrak Ubi Jalar Ungu dan Bunga Kana Merah dengan konsentrasi 15%:15%, 15%:20% dan 20%:20%. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimental laboratorium. Hasil pengujian sifat fisik menunjukan bahwa sediaan yang dihasilkan memberikan warna ungu muda hingga merah muda keunguan, bau khas parfum oleum rose, teksturnya lembut, semua sediaan memiliki susunan yang homogen, nilai pH sediaan berkisar 6,00 - 6,45, polesan terbaik pada konsentrasi zat warna 20%:20%, selama 14 hari pengamatan warna pada semua sediaan tidak mengalami perubahan terhadap cahaya, dan sediaan yang paling disukai oleh panelis adalah sediaan dengan konsentrasi zat warna 20%:20%. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa kombinasi ekstrak etanol Ubi Jalar Ungu dan Bungu Kana Merah dapat digunkan sebagai pewarna alami dalam sediaan perona pipi. Kata kunci: Ipomoea batatas L., Canna coccinea Mill., Perona pipi
