The study examined security awareness as a panacea for effective management of safe school Initiative and students’ academic achievement in unity schools in Nigeria. Three research questions guided the study. The study adopted descriptive survey design. The population of the study comprises 104 principals of unity schools in Nigeria. There was no sampling technique adopted since the entire population was manageable. The instrument for data collection was structured questions developed by the researchers titled: “Safe School Initiative Questionnaire (SSIQ)”. The instrument was validated by three experts, two from the Department of Educational Foundations and one in the Department of Science Education (Measurement and Evaluation Unit), all from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The reliability yielded a co-efficient of 0.83 using Cronbach Alpha techniques. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions. The findings of the study revealed that the rationale for launching safe school initiative was to protect Nigeria students in school from being attacks, to reduce the dropout rate, to enable the students to be conscious of security situation in schools, prevent future attacks on schools, and general protection of education sector in Nigeria. The findings of the study also revealed that school based management strategies can be adopted for safe school initiative implementation in unity schools in Nigeria. Based on the findings of the study, the following recommendation were made, among other that, federal government should provide safety facilities especially perimeter fencing in unity school in Nigeria.

The study used computer tutorial and drill- practice strategies to investigate students' achievement on energy transformation in nature, Uyo, Nigeria. The study was guided by three research questions and three hypotheses. Quasi-experimental design of non-randomized pretest, posttest control group was used for the study. Population was all 2,629 senior secondary two students and sample size was 210 science students selected from three secondary schools in their intact classes using purposive sampling technique. The instrument for data collection was Achievement Test. Three lecturers of test, measurement and evaluation in Science Education did instrument validation. Reliability index was .85 obtained using Kuder-Richardson Formulae-21. Data analysis for research questions used mean and standard deviation and ANCOVA for hypotheses formulated at .05 significant level. Findings revealed that students taught computer tutorial achieved and retained higher than those taught with computer drill-practice and lecture methods. Gender is a non-significant factor in academic achievement of students. The findings concluded that, computer tutorial enhances students' academic achievement in energy transformation in nature. The study recommends that teachers of science embrace computer tutorial and drill-practice strategies in teaching science concepts.

The study was carried out in the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The population of the study consisted of 17,618 undergraduate students enrolled into full time degree programmes in the University of Uyo for 2014/2015 academic session. The design of the study was survey design with ex-post facto approach. Random sampling technique was used to select 1730 students from the 12 faculties in the University. The instrument used for the study was ‘Students’ Social Networking and Attitude Questionnaire which was validated by an expert in curriculum studies and an expert in measurement and evaluation in the University of Uyo. Cronbach’s Alpha Statistical method was used to determine the reliability coefficient of .70 for the instrument. Two research questions and two null hypotheses tested at .05 level of significance guided the study. Mean and Standard Deviation were used to answer research questions; Independent t-test and Analysis of Variance were used to test the hypotheses. The results show that there is significant difference in involvement of university undergraduate students in Social Networking based on course of study, level (year) of study and age. Female undergraduate students’ involvement in social networking is higher than that of their male counterparts; but male undergraduate students showed a higher positive attitude towards integration of social networking into teaching and learning.</p>

The study examined ownership, gender and experience as correlates of policy implementation in the management of Universities Libraries in South-South, Nigeria. The correlational survey design was adopted for the study. Three (3)research questions and three (3)hypotheses guided the study. The population of the study was 1,465 which comprised 12university librarians from the 12 State and Federal Universities in South-South, 263 other professional librarians and 1,200 year 3 students who are regular libraryusers in the universities. The sample for the study was 385 respondents which consisted of 12 university librarians from the twelve universities, 263 other professional librarians and 120 years 3 students. The convenience sampling technique was used to select 10 year 3 students each from the 12 universities. Three instruments were used for datathe collection namely:questionnaire, interview, and focus group discussion. The overall internal consistency reliability index of the questionnaire obtained through Cronbach’s alpha estimate was 0.95. The data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviations for the research questions. The null hypotheses were tested using multiple regressionsand associated t-test. The findings showedthat in the management of university libraries in South-South Nigeria, library policies on main duties and responsibilities, user-oriented library concepts, schedule of duties, were highly implemented. On account of these findings, it was recommended among others that: The National Universities Commission (NUC) should monitor the implementation of the policy statements. This is to ensure that libraries irrespective of ownership, gender and experience of the librarians, are encouraged and supported to implement the policy statements to a very high extent.

The study was carried out to survey NCE students’ perceptions on use of library course as an aid to their use of library resources in Colleges of Education in South-West Nigeria. The descriptive survey design was employed and four research questions guided the study. From a population of 60,481 students, a sample of 1,210 was drawn using the proportionate stratified sampling technique. Meanwhile, out of the 1,210 copies of the questionnaire distributed, 1,097 were fully completed (filled out) as retrieved and analyzed. It represents (90.66%) or approximately (91%) response rate and considered adequate because the standard and acceptable response rate for most studies is 60%. A questionnaire was the instrument used for data collection after validation by experts in the field, and pre-tested through Cronbach Alpha method that yielded 0.743 aggregate values. Complete data subsequently gathered from 1,097 copies of the questionnaire retrieved were analyzed by employing the statistical mean to answer the research questions and criterion mean placed at 2.50. Among the major findings of the study were: Students perceived use of library course as an aid to their use of all library resource categories examined in the study (that is, reference, reserve, circulation and serials resources). The study therefore recommends that students should be given increased opportunity to access “use of library course programme” as a veritable tool of enhancing their capacity for adequate use of reference resources among others in colleges of education in the region to ensure their effective integration into our 21st century society even after college life.

This study examines the effect of Creative Game Approach on Academic Achievement in the teaching of SS1 Geometry in Port Harcourt Local Government Area of River state. A sample size of 160 SS1 students was used for the study. Three research questions were asked while three hypotheses were formulated and tested. Geometry Achievement Test (GAT), a 40-item instrument was developed by the researcher. The instrument was validated by experts in Mathematics education, and measurement and evaluation department of University of Port Harcourt, while the reliability was established using test-retest and co-efficient index of 0.86 was determined using Pearson product moment correlation. Mean and Standard deviation was used to answer the research questions while Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) was used to test the hypotheses formulated at 0.05 level of significance. The result revealed a significant difference in the achievement mean scores of students taught geometry using creative game approach and those taught using conventional method. It equally showed a significant difference in the Mathematics ability of students taught using creative game approach, also showed no significant difference in the achievement mean scores of male and female students. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that Mathematics teachers be effectively trained to use different educational creative activities, like games and so on when teaching Mathematics concepts for problem-solving, communication, reasoning and connection skills which are necessary for the attainment of better academic achievement in the subject.
