This study applied the established factors from the existing literatures on information security awareness to investigate information security awareness among non-academic staff in the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. The objectives of this study are; to identify the factors that influence information security awareness and to determine the level of information security awareness among non-academic staff. This study employed a survey design. Stratified random sampling technique was utilized to select the respondents for the study. The study participants consist of non-academic staff in the University of Ibadan. A field survey of 300 respondents was carried out using questionnaire as the main instrument. Descriptive statistics was used for data analysis. Findings of this study revealed that information security awareness is significantly influenced by policy of information security, education of information security, knowledge of technology, and non-academic staff’s behavior. Furthermore, findings show that the level of information security awareness among non-academic staff in the University of Ibadan was high. Finally, findings were discussed and recommendations for the future research were also addressed.

The purpose of the study is to examine the determinants of information security awareness (ISA) among employees of Capital Market Registrars (CMRs) in Lagos, Nigeria based on established factors from the existing literatures on ISA. The main objectives of the study are; to determine the level of information security awareness among CMRs’ employees and to identify the components that influence information security awareness. This study utilised a survey design. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select the respondents for the study. A total of 326 copies of questionnaires were distributed among the employees in CMRs, of which 267 properly completed questionnaires were returned. Descriptive statistics and simple regression were used for data analysis. Finding revealed that information security policy, information security education, knowledge of technology, and employee’s behaviour significantly influenced information security awareness. The results of the study further revealed the strong correlation between employee’s behaviour and information security awareness. Overall, the study showed that the level of information security awareness is high, which implies that employees of CMRs in Lagos are aware of the potential threats and risk associated with information security. Based on these research findings, recommendations were therefore made.

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to examine the diffusion of ebooks among postgraduate students in arts and technology faculties of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. Electronic books have become increasingly popular in recent years, but factors influencing their adoption and use are not understood in many institutions. Design/methodology/approach – Guided by a sample survey design, data were collected from 1,518 postgraduate students, 438 from the arts and 1,080 from technology, using a questionnaire and an interview schedule. Findings – Students from both faculties used ebooks, identified through serendipitous browsing of the internet, and mainly Google searching. Many of the ebooks they find are not recommended by their lecturers, while those that are recommended are not available free of charge. Students therefore use ebooks mainly to cross-validate and gain extra insights about what they have been taught. There are significant differences between arts and technology students ' use of ebooks with respect to cost, ease of use and other aspects, with technology students having the advantage. There is no programme in the university aimed at harvesting and organising ebook resources for students to access. Research limitations/implications – The study focused on only one institution. Practical implications – Institutionalising ebooks could be a useful strategy to address the dearth of current and relevant texts in universities, although ebooks may pose challenges to existing library management processes. Social implications – An ebook revolution will cause great changes in information services in libraries – how would university libraries partner to benchmark this evolving practice with respect to questions about standards, technologies, licensing and pricing, particularly in the developing world? Originality/value – There is no empirical study on this subject matter either in the University used in the study or in any other.

Purpose The aim of this study was first to confirm that a specific bank’s employees were generally more information security-aware than employees in other Australian industries and second to identify the major factors that contributed to this bank’s high levels of information security awareness (ISA). Design/methodology/approach A Web-based questionnaire (the Human Aspects of Information Security Questionnaire – HAIS-Q) was used in two separate studies to assess the ISA of individuals who used computers at their workplace. The first study assessed 198 employees at an Australian bank and the second study assessed 500 working Australians from various industries. Both studies used a Qualtrics-based questionnaire that was distributed via an email link. Findings The results showed that the average level of ISA among bank employees was consistently 20 per cent higher than that among general workforce participants in all focus areas and overall. There were no significant differences between the ISA scores for those who received more frequent training compared to those who received less frequent training. This result suggests that the frequency of training is not a contributing factor to an employee’s level of ISA. Research limitations/implications This current research did not investigate the information security (InfoSec) culture that prevailed within the bank in question because the objective of the research was to compare a bank’s employees with general workforce employees rather than compare organisations. The Research did not include questions relating to the type of training participants had received at work. Originality/value This study provided the bank’s InfoSec management with evidence that their multi-channelled InfoSec training regime was responsible for a substantially higher-than-average ISA for their employees. Future research of this nature should examine the effectiveness of various ISA programmes in light of individual differences and learning styles. This would form the basis of an adaptive control framework that would complement many of the current international standards, such as ISO’s 27000 series, NIST’s SP800 series and ISACA’s COBIT5.

The study developed a scale for measuring assessment literacy of university teachers and determined the validity and reliability of the scale. This is with a view of improving university teachers’ assessment literacy. The study adopted the survey design. The population comprised all lecturers working in universities within Osun State. The sample consisted of 549 university teachers that were not in training position (lecturer II and above) from different disciplines selected using convenient sampling technique in all the eight accredited universities within Osun state. The study made use of three instruments namely; University Teachers Assessment Literacy Scale (UTALS), Teacher Self-Efficacy Scale (TSES) and Teacher Burnout Scale (TBS). The results showed that the 60- item UTALS was reduced to 43 items after the psychometric procedure of item retention and deletion were applied. Scree plot and eigen value methods showed that the final UTALS construct validity had seven factors of university teachers’ assessment literacy that accounted for 86.46% of the total scale variance and it significantly converge and diverge with the Teacher Efficacy Scale (r = 0.75) and Teacher Burnout Scale (0.52) respectively. The internal consistency reliability of the scale was 0.96 (Guttman), 0.90 (Cronbach), and 0.96 (Spearman). The study concluded that the university teacher’s assessment literacy scale developed in this study had adequate psychometric characteristics and is suitable for measuring assessment literacy of university teachers in Osun State. It was therefore recommended that the University Teacher’s Assessment Literacy Scale be adopted by institutions of higher learning for the assessment of new and old academic staff members’ assessment competency in order to help in the improvement of assessment standard of the institutions

The study investigated the influence of library environment and user education on undergraduates’ use of the University central library at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria.The study adopted the survey research design and the population consisted of 18,034 regular undergraduates in ten faculties from which a sample size of 360 respondents was selected using the proportionate, random sampling technique. The research instrument used for data collection was a self-developed questionnaire while data was analysed using frequency distribution, percentages, mean and standard deviation together with regression and correlation analysis.The finding of the study revealed that library environment at the University of Ibadan was characterised by good library building (mean=3.75), seating arrangement (mean=3.59), availability of information resources (mean=3.54), and fair electricity supply while there was poor Internet connectivity and Wi-Fi within and outside the library (mean=2.39). Methods of delivering user education were library orientation for new students (64.3%) and use of library course (53.4%) with guided library tour. Most undergraduates used the library daily or weekly in order to study and read for examinations. However, inadequate technological facilities to use for electronic sources (mean=2.65), and poor network/internet connectivity to access electronic databases were some of the major challenges of using the University library. The study found a significant relationship between the independent variables (library environment and user education) and the dependent variable (use of library) (r = .342, N= 322, P < .01); while both library environment and user education jointly and independently contributed to the use of library among the undergraduates. programmes given more priority in the University library in order to sensitise more students and draw their attention to the available resources and services while the environment of the University library (both internal and external) should be made more conducive to always attract the users to the library.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to gain more insight into the impact of cybercrime incidents in the banking sector of Pakistan. This study investigates the significant contribution of information security awareness on the relationship of cybercrimes and organizational performance. Design/methodology/approach The impact of cybercrime incidents on organizational performance is investigated by further exploring the moderating effects of information security awareness. A sample of 302 employees in the banking industry of Pakistan was studied by using survey design. Findings Cybercrime incidents have negative impact on organizational performance, but information security awareness weakens the negative impact of cybercrimes on organizational performance. Research limitations/implications The present study focuses on the banking sector so its finding cannot be generalized in other sectors. Further, in-depth comparative studies in other sectors with different cultural settings will help to authenticate the research findings. Practical implications Information security awareness weakens the negative impact of cybercrimes on organizational performance; therefore, it is important for banks’ HR managers to set up more security training courses to increase employees’ awareness on cybercrimes. Originality/value This study explores the impact of cybercrimes on banks’ performance with the moderating role of employees’ information security awareness. Linking these topics has created a new study within the cybercrimes discipline. The present study also enhances the understanding of employees’ role to combat the impact of cybercrimes on organizational performance.

Information security awareness can play an important role in facing cyber-attacks by intruders. The main goal of this paper is to analyse the information security awareness among academic staff, researchers, undergraduate students and employee within educational environments in the Middle East in an attempt to understand the level of awareness of information security, the associated risks and overall impact on the institutions. The results reveal that the participants do not have the requisite knowledge and understanding of the importance of information security principles and their practical application in their day-to-day work. This situation can however be corrected through comprehensive awareness and training programs as well as adopting all the necessary safety measures at all levels of the institution to ensure that the students, academic staff and employees are trustworthy, technology savvy and keep their data safe. Without such training programs and awareness, there will be negative consequences on IT systems and their application usage, as well as on users’ personal security now and in the future. From the weaknesses identified in this survey, some essential recommendations are put forward to remedy the situation.

This study explores the relationship between positive emotions and protection-motivated behaviours by focusing on the mediating role of self-efficacy and the moderating role of information security awareness. Based on a sample of 215 full-time employees from various organizations in China, the results of hierarchical regression and moderated path analysis indicate that positive emotions positively influence protection-motivated behaviours, and self-efficacy partially mediates this relationship. In addition, information security awareness has a positive moderating effect on the relationships between positive emotions and self-efficacy and between self-efficacy and protectionmotivated behaviours. Furthermore, the findings show that information security awareness has a positive moderating effect on the mediating effect of self-efficacy between positive emotions and protection-motivated behaviours. The theoretical and practical implications of these results, as well as directions for future research, are discussed.

Traditional cybersecurity, security or information security awareness programs have become ineffective to change people's behavior in recognizing, failing to block or reporting cyberthreats within their organizational environment. As a result, human errors and actions continue to demonstrate that we are the weakest links in cybersecurity. This article studies the most recent cybersecurity awareness programs and its attributes. Furthermore, the authors compiled recent awareness methodologies, frameworks and approaches. The authors introduce a suggested awareness training model to address existing deficiencies in awareness training. The Cybersecurity Awareness TRAining Model (CATRAM) has been designed to deliver training to different organizational audiences, each of these groups with specific content and separate objectives. The authors concluded their study by addressing the need of future research to target new approaches to keep cybersecurity awareness focused on the everchanging cyberthreat landscape.
