When measuring state body dissatisfaction, it is common for researchers to use idiosyncratic versions of the Body Dissatisfaction – Visual Analogue Scales (BD-VASs). However, the BDVAS variants vary in their scale and psychometric properties and impede comparability of results across studies. This thesis aims to review all available BD-VAS variants and their psychometric properties (Study 1), and empirically study the effects of scale modifications on BD-VASs’ validity and reliability (Study 2). Study 1 revealed a total of 61 BD-VAS variants. Many of these variants were modified for a single study (77%) and had no supporting reliability and validity evidence (39%). In Study 2, 413 female undergraduate students completed one of six BD-VAS versions varying in extremity and scale polarity. Contrary to predictions, the BDVAS variants had comparable score distributions, reliability, and validity evidence. While there is unnecessary variability across BD-VASs, such modifications may not greatly impact responses or study results.

Emotional Intelligence Scale (EIS) is a popular EI measure. Yet, it has been criticized for an unclear factor structure, and its psychometric properties were mainly examined in the Western context. This study was to evaluate its psychometric properties based on 1,724 Hong Kong undergraduate students, including its (a) factor structure, (b) internal consistency, and (c) criterion validity. We compared different factor structures reported in the literature. The confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) results supported a six-factor structure, which is tallied with Salovey and Mayer’s EI conceptualization. A multigroup CFA also rendered the structure as gender invariant. The scale was internally consistent with high McDonald’s omega coefficients. Significant association between EI and grade point average (GPA) was revealed in the faculties with people-oriented studies. Furthermore, EI was correlated with social, cognitive, and self-growth outcomes and satisfaction of university experience. The study contributes to clarify the factor structure and provides new reliability and validity evidence of the EIS in the Eastern context.

BACKGROUND፡ Despite the huge numbers of the universally produced and employed protocols, the adherence with them is still low to moderate in the healthcare settings. This study was employed to assess the attitudes of Palestinian healthcare professionals in Gaza Strip to health education and counseling on healthy behaviours protocol (WHO-PEN Protocol 2), for patients with non-communicable diseases in the Ministry of Health primary healthcare centers.METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted with a census sample of all governmental family physicians and nurses (n=175). The study questionnaire was developed based on Cabana theoretical framework. The Arabic version questionnaire was developed based on the cross-cultural adaptation framework. The psychometric properties of the Arabic version questionnaire was finally evaluated.RESULTS: The psychometric properties of the Arabic version questionnaire showed good construct validity and internal consistency reliability. The overall adherence level to WHO-PEN Protocol 2 was 70.0, SD=6.9. The main perceived barriers were lack of incentive, patients’ factors, and lack of time. In general, most of healthcare professional respondents had a positive attitude toward the protocol, but this attitude was not predictor to protocol adherence.CONCLUSION: The good validity and reliability of the questionnaire can provide support for the accuracy of the study results. Varied implementation strategies targeting the major barriers derived from the study are extremely required for addressing the lack of incentives, patients’ factors and time constraints.

In this study a Chinese version of the Situational Self-Awareness Scale (SSAS; Govern & Marsch, 2001) was developed and tested for validity and reliability. Participants were 1,244 undergraduate students. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis and other statistical methods yielded results indicating a good correlation of items in the Chinese (C-SSAS) and English version of the scale. When private self-awareness was assessed in a private setting the score of participants was significantly greater and likewise the public self-awareness scores were higher when the scale was completed in a public setting. Test-retest reliability was significant across situations and time. The reallocation of one item to public self-awareness in the C-SSAS from private in the SSAS was indicative of differences between Eastern and Western cultures and this is discussed. In general, the results indicated that the Chinese version of the SSAS has good reliability and validity. The scale should, therefore, be suitable as a reference to develop scales for evaluating personnel working in specific occupations.

The present study was conducted to derive the psychometric properties of the Bahraini version of the Practical Intelligence Test (PIT), which is a part of the applied intelligence test developed by Sternberg et al. (2008). This test is based on Sternberg's theory of triarchic intelligence. The scale consisted of twenty multiple-choice items, and after each situation, three options are presented that represent different ways to address the problem according to the concept of practical intelligence. The first option is an adaptation (you will try to adapt to the environment). The second option represents changing the environment. The third option is to look for another environment (you decide to leave the environment completely). The population of the study consisted of undergraduate students in public and private universities in the Kingdom of Bahrain enrolled in the 2019/2018 academic year. One of the six universities has been selected. A stratified sample of 300 undergraduate students was distributed by sex and grade level. The results revealed that: (a) practical Intelligence is uni-dimensional, (2) the PIT has high levels of validity and reliability, and (3) the practical intelligence performance varies according to gender and in favour of males.

The current study aimed to ascertain the level of professional compatibility for a sample of the winners of Prince Fahd bin Sultan and its relationship with the ambition regarding some demographic variables. To achieve the objective of the study، a sample consisted of male and female 23 individuals of the winners of Prince Fahd bin Sultan’s award were chosen from the winners over several years. Two scales were developed; the scale of professional compatibility and the scale of ambition. Psychometric properties of both scales were verified، including validity and reliability. The study found that the level of professional compatibility and ambition of the study sample was high and that there was a positive correlation between professional compatibility and ambition. It was also found that professional compatibility and ambition had no difference in regard to gender، age، educational level، year of award، current profession and the reason behind being awarded. Depending on the study results، some recommendations were stated including the need to work on and grant a variety of different awards as well as the involvement of award winners in activities that serve the community.

Relationship science has proliferated in the last few years. However, most of these studies have remained focused on western culture. An important reason for the lack of relationship studies in the non-western, particularly Indian context, is the lack of culturally validated scales. The present study was aimed at assessing the psychometric properties of the relationship structure (ECR-RS) scale. ECR-RS is a nine-item questionnaire used to measure attachment patterns for different relationships. It has been translated and modified in multiple languages. The study (N = 223, undergraduate students, 32.7% females) evaluated the Hindi version of ECR-RS scale’s psychometric properties for mother, father, close friend, and global attachment. The confirmatory factor analysis supports the presence of the two-factor model as originally theorized in ECR-RS. The findings support the reliability and validity of Hindi ECR-RS. The study contributes methodologically by providing an instrument of attachment styles, which could be a valuable resource for practitioners and researchers in the Indian context.

The purpose of the present study is to investigate the psychometric properties of two integrative inventories of psychological well-being– the Brief Inventory of Thriving (BIT) and the Comprehensive Inventory of Thriving (CIT)– that could be widely used among Turkish young adults. This study also aimed to examine whether students with severe psychological health symptoms reported higher levels of loneliness, lack of control, and negative feelings, and fewer positive domains of the CIT (e.g., support, belonging, positive feelings, and self-efficacy).  The participants of this study included 314 Turkish undergraduate students (76% female with an age range of 18–47 years [M = 22.83, SD = 4.09]) from a state university in Turkey. Confirmatory factor analyses showed good psychometric fit statistics of both the CIT and BIT, confirming the latent structure of inventories. Factor loadings of the CIT items were strong, with robust indicator reliabilities. With regard to the concurrent validity of the measures, the study results showed that the domains and the brief version of the measure had significant correlations with psychological health symptoms. Additionally, individuals with severe mental health symptoms reported fewer positive psychological domains of psychological well-being, whereas having higher negative domains of psychological well-being than those with mild symptoms. Specifically, Cohen's d effect sizes were large for some social resources and subjective well-being domains. Overall, these results provide evidence suggesting that both the CIT and BIT could be used to assess psychological well-being among Turkish young adults.

Reliability and validity evidence as well as normative data are provided for Wise's 1985 Attitudes Toward Statistics scale for 36 undergraduate and 38 graduate psychology students. In general, the two subscales of Field and Course appear to be reliable and valid measures of these students' attitudes toward statistics. In addition, normative data suggest different norms should be used for graduate and undergraduate students. Replication is needed.
