This paper investigates how cultural distance, the local experience of a foreign subsidiary, and the intensity of local competition jointly affect the staff localization of MNEs’ subsidiaries. While previous studies on the effects of cultural distance have mainly focused on the gap between home and host countries, we extend the existing “home-host” country perspective to the home-intermediary-host country relationship. This study regards Korea as an intermediary country and utilizes 520 observations from a unique survey conducted by the Export-Import Bank of Korea from 2006 to 2013. The results suggest that the impact of cultural distance on staff localization is a function of local experience and competitive environment in the home-intermediate-host relationship structure. This paper makes a theoretical contribution to our understanding of the behavior of multinational corporations by expanding the cultural distance perspective between the home and host countries explored in previous research to the home-subsidiary-subsidiary structure.

Abstract Strong social relationships and social engagement are crucial for both successful aging and successful community re-entry after incarceration. Here, we utilized a mixed methods approach to understand the impact of incarceration on social relationships and social engagement among formerly incarcerated community-dwelling African-American adults aged >50. Participants in the 2012 or 2014 waves of the Health and Retirement Study answered questions regarding prior incarceration, social relationships, and participation in social activities. Additionally, we utilized key informant interviews to further explore how incarceration might impact relationships and social engagement. This presentation will describe quantitative associations between prior incarceration and social relationship structure & function. Further, we will use our qualitative interview data to further explore possible explanations for our findings. Finally, we will describe how MCUAAAR Scientist/Faculty interactions facilitated this work.

AbstractThe aims: (i) analyze connectivity between subgroups of university students, (ii) assess which bridges of relational contacts are essential for connecting or disconnecting subgroups and (iii) to explore the similarities between the attributes of the subgroup nodes in relation to the pandemic context. During the COVID-19 pandemic, young university students have experienced significant changes in their relationships, especially in the halls of residence. Previous research has shown the importance of relationship structure in contagion processes. However, there is a lack of studies in the university setting, where students live closely together. The case study methodology was applied to carry out a descriptive study. The participation consisted of 43 university students living in the same hall of residence. Social network analysis has been applied for data analysis. Factions and Girvan–Newman algorithms have been applied to detect the existing cohesive subgroups. The UCINET tool was used for the calculation of the SNA measure. A visualization of the global network will be carried out using Gephi software. After applying the Girvan–Newman and Factions, in both cases it was found that the best division into subgroups was the one that divided the network into 4 subgroups. There is high degree of cohesion within the subgroups and a low cohesion between them. The relationship between subgroup membership and gender was significant. The degree of COVID-19 infection is related to the degree of clustering between the students. College students form subgroups in their residence. Social network analysis facilitates an understanding of structural behavior during the pandemic. The study provides evidence on the importance of gender, race and the building where they live in creating network structures that favor, or not, contagion during a pandemic.

This research is based on a phenomenon of the Maiyah community in Banyumas, it is Juguran Syafaat who conducts recitation activities of a Sinau Bareng. This community is held 9 years ago so there are many worshipers who joint in these activities and they come from various background. Then the researcher interested in conducting research entitled the relations, structure, values and social norms of the Maiyah Juguran Syafaat community in Banyumas. The purpose of this study to reveal social relations, organizational structure, and social values and norms that exist in the Juguran Syafaat Community. This study uses a qualitative research method with a qualitative descriptive approach. This research is a community study with data using interviews, participatory observation, text review and documentation in the routine activities of Sinau with Juguran Syafaat. The purpose of this research to reveal how the relationships, structures, values and social norms that exist in the jamaah maiyah (Juguran Syafaat). This type of qualitative approach, with data analysis, data reduction and data triangulation. The population of this research is the Juguran Syafaat community (activists, administrators or sedulur from other congregations). The results of the research, are the internal structure of the activist consisting the chairman and activists, while the social structure of the Jamaah Maiyah Juguran Syafaat; includes students, political officials, businessmen, artists, and others. The results of the analysis, there is no structural distinction between the congregation, are not based on their role in work or economic strata, they discussed with "lesehan bareng". Social relations, they make relations with all elements of society they meet, during their sinau activities or, their daily activities. Values and norms have always been instilled by the maiyah community in Juguran Syafaat. Intercession is a religious value of sangkan paraning dumadi. The social value of the juguran intercession community to communicate & socialize with all levels in a society. The norms that are always instilled are the customs and norms that exist in Java and Indonesia, for example, always using courtesy and respecting everyone. Relationship science has proliferated in the last few years. However, most of these studies have remained focused on western culture. An important reason for the lack of relationship studies in the non-western, particularly Indian context, is the lack of culturally validated scales. The present study was aimed at assessing the psychometric properties of the relationship structure (ECR-RS) scale. ECR-RS is a nine-item questionnaire used to measure attachment patterns for different relationships. It has been translated and modified in multiple languages. The study (N = 223, undergraduate students, 32.7% females) evaluated the Hindi version of ECR-RS scale’s psychometric properties for mother, father, close friend, and global attachment. The confirmatory factor analysis supports the presence of the two-factor model as originally theorized in ECR-RS. The findings support the reliability and validity of Hindi ECR-RS. The study contributes methodologically by providing an instrument of attachment styles, which could be a valuable resource for practitioners and researchers in the Indian context.

Abstract In the current media environment of growing information disorder and social media platforms emerging as primary news sources, the creation and spread of disinformation is becoming increasingly easy and cost-effective. The projection of strategic narratives through disinformation campaigns is an important geopolitical tool in the global competition for power and status. We have analysed close to 1,000 individual news pieces from more than 60 different online sources containing disinformation, which originally appeared in one of the V4 languages, using a natural language processing algorithm. We have assessed the frequency of recurring themes within the articles and their relationship structure, to see whether consistent disinformation narratives were to be found among them. Through frequency analysis and relationship charting, we have been able to uncover individual storylines connected to more than ten overarching disinformation narratives. We have also exposed five key meta-narratives present in all Visegrád Countries, which fed into a coherent system of beliefs, such as the envisioned collapse of the European Union or the establishment of a system of Neo-Atlantism, which would permanently divide the continent.

In this article we research Spanish educational influencers with major presence on Twitter: what are the most common topics or hashtags used by them, whether there are groups based on the topics of their interventions or what type of social network they configure. To meet these goals, we selected 54 educational influencers with a high number of followers. We analyzed and classified the "hashtags" included in a total of 106,130 tweets. The analysis of hashtags has shown us that the most labelled topics correspond to educational content in different areas of the curriculum, collaboration, exchange and dissemination of digital materials, documents or resources, as well as activities related to training or discussion about innovative teaching methodologies. Using the Gephi software, we carried out a Social Network Analysis, determining the degree of centrality and betweenness centrality of the 54 influencers, which allowed us to identify influencers with greater recognition by the rest. Through a modularity analysis, we were able to identify five groups of influencers that do not work as closed groups but maintain frequent interactions with other influencers in other groups. This research highlights the need to better understand the contents and procedures that may promote informal learning by teachers. En este artículo indagamos acerca de los influencers educativos españoles con mayor presencia en Twitter: cuáles son los temas o hashtags más difundidos por ellos, las temáticas de sus intervenciones o qué tipo de red social configuran. Para dar respuesta a estos objetivos, en primer lugar, seleccionamos 54 docentes con alto nivel de seguidores. Analizamos y clasificamos los «hashtags» incluidos en un total de 106.130 tuits. El análisis de los hashtags nos ha mostrado que los temas más etiquetados corresponden a contenidos educativos en diferentes áreas del currículum, la colaboración, el intercambio y la difusión de materiales, documentos o recursos digitales, así como de acciones de formación o de debate sobre metodologías docentes innovadoras. Utilizando el programa Gephi hemos realizado un análisis de redes sociales, determinando el grado de centralidad y centralidad de intermediación de los 54 docentes, lo que nos ha permitido identificar influencers con mayor reconocimiento por parte del resto. A través del análisis de modularidad, hemos podido identificar cinco grupos de influencers que no funcionan como grupos cerrados, sino que mantienen frecuentes interacciones con el resto de influencers de otros grupos. A través de este estudio se pone de manifiesto la necesidad de conocer mejor los contenidos y procedimientos que pueden estar favoreciendo aprendizajes informales por parte de los docentes.

Perceived stress, Internet addiction and procrastination are common issues among college students. Based on the Compensatory Internet Use (CIU) model and emotion regulation theory, this study aims to explore two possible mechanisms for the connection between perceived stress and Internet addiction: mediating effect of procrastination and moderating effect of flow experience on the Internet. Cross-sectional design and questionnaire survey were used in this study. Data were collected from 446 college students who voluntarily completed self-reporting of perceived stress, internet addiction, procrastination and flow. Potential relationship structure and moderation model between variables was calculated during the process. The results revealed that there were significant associations among perceived stress, Internet addiction, procrastination and flow. The results also showed that procrastination plays a mediating role between perceptual stress and Internet addiction, flow plays a moderating role between them. The results emphasized the importance of the intention behind college students’ overuse of the Internet. These results also provided a perspective of finding the possible causes of Internet addiction in college students, that is, individuals use the Internet to avoid stress and procrastinate, and the mobile experience on the Internet also affects the process.
