Integrated System for Online Competency Certification Test (SITUK) is an application used to carry out the assessment process (competency certification) at LSP (Lembaga Sertifikasi Profesional) UPN (University of Pembangunan Nasional) “Veteran” Jawa Timur, each of which is followed by approximately five hundred (500) assessments. Thus the data stored is quite a lot, so to find data using a search system. Often, errors occur in entering keywords that are not standard spelling or typos. For example, the keyword "simple," even though the default spelling is "simple." Of course, the admin will get incomplete information, and even the admin fails to get information that matches the entered keywords. To overcome the problems experienced in conducting data searches on the SITUK application, we need a string search approach method to maximize the search results. One of the algorithms used is Levenshtein which can calculate the distance of difference between two strings. Implementation of the Levenshtein algorithm on the data search system in the SITUK application has been able to overcome the problem of misspelling keywords with the mechanism of adding, inserting, and deleting characters.

With the increasing growth of different types of data, search engines have become an essential tool on the Internet. Every day, billions of queries are run through few search engines with several privacy violations and monopoly problems. The blockchain, as a trending technology applied in various fields, including banking, IoT, education, etc., can be a beneficial alternative. Blockchain-based search engines, unlike monopolistic ones, do not have centralized controls. With a blockchain-based search system, no company can lay claims to user’s data or access search history and other related information. All these data will be encrypted and stored on a blockchain. Valuing users’ searches and paying them in return is another advantage of a blockchain-based search engine. Additionally, in smart environments, as a trending research field, blockchain-based search engines can provide context-aware and privacy-preserved search results. According to our research, few efforts have been made to develop blockchain use, which include studies generally in the early stages and few white papers. To the best of our knowledge, no research article has been published in this regard thus far. In this paper, a survey on blockchain-based search engines is provided. Additionally, we state that the blockchain is an essential paradigm for the search ecosystem by describing the advantages.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is twofold: first, to develop a visualized search system utilizing graphical images to represent the story elements and concepts to help elementary students describe and seek their desired storybooks; and second, to explore the effect of the proposed visualized search system on elementary students’ tactics, success, and motivation for seeking storybooks. Design/methodology/approach A quasi-experimental approach was conducted with a sample of 61 elementary students in this study. The students’ tactics, motivation and the success of their storybook searching were addressed as dependent variables for further comparisons of the visualized searching system and a conventional keyword searching system. Findings The results revealed that the students in the experimental group exhibited more frequent tactics and greater motivation for storybook searching than those in the control group. Further χ2 analysis indicated a significant relationship between the searching interface and the success of the students’ storybook searching. Originality/value This paper proposes a new visual search approach which allows young children to search for storybooks by describing an intended storybook in terms of its characters, objects, or the background colors of the cover page. The findings provide some evidence of the effectiveness of the visualized searching interface in terms of promoting young children’s learning through storybook searching and reading activities.

Abstract Search system is an important application applied to an online information media, but since the presence of search engines like Google, people prefer to use this tool to find information. Because the search method used is proven to be reliable. Are we able to be like that? This research proves that by implementing the Google Custom Search API method, we can build a search system like Google's search engine, the test results show that the search results displayed are very relevant and on average are ranked first. Another advantage of this method is that it includes incorrect spelling corrections to perfect the actual keywords.

This study examines whether facets of corporate governance (board size, proportion of independent directors on the board, board committees, and Big 4 auditor) promote the voluntary disclosure of intellectual capital in annual reports in Australia and New Zealand and whether this is country dependent. Data was collected from OSIRIS and annual reports with disclosure detected through a rigorous electronic word search approach. Statistical testing with OLS regression followed. The presence of nomination committees and a majority of independent directors on the board were found to be significant positive predictors of intellectual capital disclosure in both countries, and larger board sizes in Australian companies enhanced intellectual capital disclosure. These results concur with resource dependency and stakeholder theoretical arguments.

This chapter presents a meta-search approach, meant to deliver bibliography from the internet, according to trainees’ results obtained at an e-assessment task. The bibliography consists of web pages related to the knowledge gaps of the trainees. The meta-search engine is part of an education recommender system, attached to an e-assessment application for project management knowledge. Meta-search means that, for a specific query (or mistake made by the trainee), several search mechanisms for suitable bibliography (further reading) could be applied. The lists of results delivered by the standard search mechanisms are used to build thematically homogenous groups using an ontology-based clustering algorithm. The clustering process uses an educational ontology and WordNet lexical database to create its categories. The research is presented in the context of recommender systems and their various applications to the education domain.

Semantic search has been rapidly growing as a way to improve search results. The meaning of the input expression has revealed to produce better results than the traditional keyword appearance. Regarding search engines, there are currently several proposals but all of them are already implemented to a specific goal. We find important to develop a generic semantic search system so it rapidly be adapted to any system and domain that has search needs. This work introduces GSSP, a generic semantic search platform proposal. We present the platform and the several steps that need to be followed in order for the platform to be used. We also provide the ongoing work that is being done to apply GSSP to a Quality Management System.

Both the blog search engine and the general search engine automatically crawl the pages from the web and produce relevant search results based on the user's query. The first difference between the two types is that the blog search engine focuses on dealing with blog posts and filters out other types of pages. This difference allows bloggers only to care about posts rather than all pages that are indexed by general search engines. The second difference is the post, considering more time-related issues compared to the page. The semantic analysis model is widely used to analyze the various semantic relationships that may arise in the document. In this article, the authors propose a new semantic analysis model to find possible time relationships between posts. The main contribution of this paper has two points: first is that this paper builds a high-performance search system that considers the discussion topic and updated time between posts; second, is that the authors consider the time relationships between posts that can rank the relevant blog topics based on the popularity of the posts.
