The authors develop and substantiate the methods of assessing Russian science journals citation in six domains as specified by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and, based on Web of Science Core Collection data, make recommendations for promoting Russian journals to the international databases. The authors analyze the methods of citing science journals indexed by the international systems and conclude that there was a need for additional indicators of citation assessment with consideration to the national origins of publications. They suggest the methodological approach based on calculating citation coefficient which is a modified version of impact factor. The key distinctions of the method are the following: the number of citing documents are applied instead of the quotation number; only one document type, i.e. academic papers, is used for calculations; citation widows are varied depending on specificity of six OECD science domains. To distribute articles among the domains the authors developed the OECD – Web of Science Core Collection compliance tables.

In Part 2, the authors are testing the methods of assessing Russian science journals citation in the natural, agricultural sciences and the humanities based on Web of Science Core Collection. The methodological approach is based on calculating citation coefficient which is a modified version of impact factor, calculated as the ratio of the number of citing documents to the number of scientific articles in Russian journals. The method is tested on the scientific articles published in Russian journals of 2012–2018 and indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection. As a result, recommendations are developed on how to promote Russian journals to the international databases based on Web of Science Core Collection taking into account the specifics of OECD domains under the examination. The general recommendations are: to decrease the share of mono-national publications thus increasing the share of articles written in the international collaboration; and to increase the share of articles by foreign authors. The study is accomplished through the funding within the State Order of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian federation “Organizational, technological, research and methodological support of promoting national journals to the international science citation bases and information analytical support of the national subscription to international science information resources for scientific and educational organizations”.

Background and Study Aim. The inclusion of beach volleyball in the program of the Olympic Games gave some impetus to the development of scientific research on various problems of training athletes. Most of the research results are presented in journals included in the Web of Science Core Collection. However, the publication of research results in journals from national databases remains outside the scope of this database. The aim of this study is to systematically review the scientific literature on various beach volleyball issues in Russian-language scientific resources. Material and Methods. The sources of information were the authoritative database Web of Science Core Collection, Russian Science Citation Index, Scientific Electronic Library eLIBRARY.RU (Russia), National Repositary of Academic Texts (Ukraine). Data extraction from these databases was carried out using the keywords “volleyball” / “beach”. A total of 1,875 documents were found for the keyword “volleyball”. Of these, the keyword “beach” - 273 documents. Further analysis was carried out on 273 documents. The search query results were recorded in the form of tables and a special text file, which were processed in the VOSviewer 1.6.17 program. Results. The most significant and more popular subject categories, journals, authors, articles, keywords have been identified. The relationship between keywords and individual groups of publications has been established. A method for extracting data from the Scientific Electronic Library eLIBRARY.RU in a semiautomatic mode is presented. The trends in the development of beach volleyball in various aspects of the training of elite athletes and the sports reserve, the health-improving function of beach volleyball for youth are shown. Conclusions. Differences in the content of research between Russian-language and English-language resources are a good complement to each other. This fact may contribute to solving the problems of beach volleyball and international cooperation of researchers.

The article analyzes the changes in the bibliometric characteristics of the array of Russian publications reflected in the Web of Science Core Collection (WoS CC database) in the field of physics in 2018, compared to the same characteristics in 2010. The main parameter to assess the quality (research level) of arrays with bibliometric point of view was “Comprehensive index of quality” (CIQ) for the array of publications, calculated on the basis of one of the parameters in “Method for calculating the qualitative indicator of the state task “the Comprehensive performance score publication”...”, used by the Ministry of science and higher education of the Russian Federation. It was found that with an almost twofold increase in the volume of the array, there was a slight decrease in its quality in terms of CIQ in 2018 in comparison with 2010. The author also compared the characteristics of the array of Russian publications in 2018 with similar ones of the arrays on physical publications in Germany, India and Great Britain, located close to Russia in the ranking by the number of publications included in the WoS array (in this ranking, Russia was on the fourth place in 2018). In the ranking based on the CIQ indicator, the arrays of these countries are significantly ahead of the Russian one, and our country is only on the sixth place. The main reasons for this lag in the Russian publications array are identified. They are: a lower percentage of Russian publications in high-quartile journals and a greater number of publications from conference proceedings. The conclusion is made about the applicability of bibliometric analysis to identify trends in publishing activities in the scientific field.

The study task is to develop and substantiate the methodological approach toward assessing publication activities of Russian researchers in the RF regions based on Web of Science Core Collection and Scopus. The fundamental distinction of the proposed method from the existing ones is that it enables to eliminate over-estimation and under-estimation of publication activity figures. Besides, it enables to analyze all the regions at once rather than individual districts or territories. The study sustains inconsistency of the sci-tech landscape in different federal okrugs (regions) and, for several of them, lacking the correlation between the research results and available resources in the regions. The study findings would enable the government authorities to make administrative decisions at the federal and municipal levels. The study was accomplished out of the funds of the State Order of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation “Organizational, technological, research and methodological support and promotion of national journals to the international science citation databases; information and analytical support of the publicly funded subscription to international information resources in science for research and educational organizations”.

Purpose. The aim of this article is to acquire as much knowledge as possible on the changing impact factor of publications in “Folia Turistica” („FT”) in 1990-2016, the subjects of these works, the most frequently cited articles, and their authors. The aim is also to explore the works citing the articles in the periodical (including the time and countries in which they were written, their subjects, authors, and the sources of the publications). Method. The analysis was conducted from 4 February to 8 March 2019, using Google Scholar and the Scopus and Web of Science (Core Collection) databases. The data acquired was processed using statistical methods. Findings. The analyses found the numbers of citations of articles published in FT and the sum total of citations of published works in 1990-2016 in sources indexed in Google Scholar, Scopus, and Web of Science. This allowed us to establish the changing percentage of citations over the years and the average impact of articles published in various issues of the journal. Based on the data from the analyzed sources, an h-index was established for the journal, with the most frequently cited articles and their fields, as well as the most frequently cited authors of works of articles published in the relevant period. Data collected at Web of Science and Scopus allowed us to establish the number of references to articles published in „FT”, appearing in various years, titles, authors, sources, and fields, and the most often quoted publications published in „FT” and the countries with which these publications were affiliated. Research and conclusions limitations. The analysis concerns citations in Google Scholar and the Scopus and Web of Science (Core Collection) databases, accessed 8 March 2019 and limited to articles published in “Folia Turistica” in period 1990-2016. Practical implications. This analysis could be a source of information for defining the later publishing policies of “Folia Turistica” and a basis for future comparative analyses. Originality. This is the first analysis of citations of articles published in “Folia Turistica”. Type of work. This article presents the results of empirical studies.

The article analyses the subject structure of four large licensed journal collections of foreign publishers available for many Russian libraries due to the national subscription program financed by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. Priority subjects are described in terms of Web of Science Core Collection subject headings and by Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development second level rubrics. It introduces a method to assess using these collections (uploading articles from them) by subject headings. Comparing subjects offered in collections and article downloads indexed by these subjects allow to make informed decisions on changes in the library acquisition profile

The author assesses the state of Russian economic studies in 2016–2020, based on Web of Science Core Collection data. The dynamics of the publication productivity of Russian scientistseconomists is characterized, and a qualitative citation analysis of their works is carried out. We show that many Russian economic articles, published in the journals from WoS, are in Russian. The results of the citation analysis show that Russian-language publications are cited, on average, two times less often than the ones published in English. Consequently, they receive fewer references from the major international journals. The results of research allow forming proposals for increasing the visibility of Russian studies in the international space. One of the methods is a wider use of the bilingual publication model.
