Background: Teachers' training is a kind of education that helps the teachers to understand the basic theories of teachinglearning for escalating their knowledge, skills and abilities according to the learner's need.Objectives: The present study was undertaken to identify the students' perception about the teaching performances of the teachers who had gone through the training on teaching methodology at Centre for Medical Education (CME) in Bangladesh.Methods: This descriptive type of cross sectional study was conducted in thirteen public and private medical colleges of Bangladesh. A structured questionnaire based on 5-point Likert scale was used to collect the students' perceptions which included 13 separate positive statements regarding classroom performances. Statements having mean score of 4 or more are considered as positive aspect of performance. Statements with mean score 3 or less indicate the problem area of performance. Statement with a mean score in-between 3 and 4 might be emphasized for further improvement.Results: According to students' aggregated view, 38% of the teaching performances were excellent, 43% were good, 16% were satisfactory and 3% were unsatisfactory.Conclusion: To ensure excellence in all aspects of teaching performances a well-designed, updated and contextual training programme needs to be adopted for further improvement of teaching-learning.Bangladesh Journal of Medical Education Vol.7(1) 2016: 14-19

Background: Periodic students’ feedback ensures and enhances the effectiveness of the curriculum of medical subject. Objective: This study was designed to obtain students appraisal of the undergraduate pharmacology curriculum and teaching methodology. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted in the Department of Pharmacology at Colonel Malek Medical College, Manikganj, Bangladesh from May to June, 2019 for a period of two months. Questionnaire-based data were collected from students of both sexes who had completed 3rd Professional examination. Likert Scale was applied to collect students’ feedback on pharmacology. Results: A total number of 40 students were recruited for this study of which 60.0% students were strongly agreed about organized teaching. About 47.5% students were agreed that the course was appropriate at their level and achieved their goals in Pharmacology. However, 55% of them strongly agreed that teacher provided clear constructive feedback during class. Total 60%, were agreed that the course improved their problem-solving skills. Overall, 55% students were agreed regarding their satisfaction on Pharmacology course delivery and conduction. Conclusion: In conclusion, periodic appraisal from students regarding evaluation of the student-centric undergraduate pharmacology curriculum is vital in developing efficient medical graduates. Introduction: Faculty development has become an essential part of any medical college for effective teaching-learning session. Centre for Medical Education (CME) has been organizing ‘teaching methodology’ workshop to train up the medical teachers in Bangladesh as a part of the faculty development programme. Objectives: To assess the students’ views regarding teaching performances of the teachers who had attended the workshop of CME. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in thirteen selected medical colleges of Bangladesh. Students’ opinions were collected by a structured questionnaire of 5-point Likert scale that included 13 separate positive statements regarding teaching performances. For each statement, the mean score was calculated and interpreted as, excellent ≥ 4, Good ≥ 3 to ≤ 4, satisfactory ≥ 2 to ≤ 3, unsatisfactory ≤ 2. But mean score ≤3 indicates deficit aspect of performances. Results: According to students’ aggregated views, teaching performances of 15% teachers were excellent, 51% were good, 25% were satisfactory and 9% were unsatisfactory. Conclusion: The trained teachers are not practising the expected standards in the tutorial classes in all aspects. Initiatives should be taken to pay more attention to deficit aspect of performances. This descriptive cross sectional study was carried out to determine the current status of faculty development in undergraduate medical education of Bangladesh. This study was carried out in eight (four Government and four Non- Government) medical colleges in Bangladesh over a period from July 2015 to June 2016. The present study had a semi-structured self-administered questionnaire for individual teacher. Total 181 teachers responded to the questionnaire. 56% of teachers said that faculty development activities were regularly conducted. About duration of faculty development activity 74% of teachers said it was 1-3 days duration. 42% of the teachers said faculty development activity conducted once in a week and 39% said occasional conduction of faculty development activity in their institute About the type of faculty development activity clinical meeting was commonest (65%), related to medical education (48%) and related to research (53%). About the topics of medical education related activities were teaching methodology (46%), assessment (32%). Research related activities were journal club (91%) and research methodology (67%). Faculty development activity was conducted through teachers association (53%) and medical education unit (50%). In conclusion some parts of FD activity are present in most of the colleges like clinical meeting, few medical education related session, and research related activity. For upgrading of medical education faculty development programme should be conducted regularly, monitoring of present programme and development of qualified resource person should be ensured.Bangladesh Journal of Medical Education Vol.8(2) 2017: 2-6

Background and Aim: As the new millennium dawned, there were numerous difficulties to overcome, particularly in the field of health education. As the first line of defence against many diseases, oral health was given prime consideration. The study's primary goal is to identify the challenges faced by Pakistan's medical education system. Study Design: Descriptive cross sectional study Place and Duration: Department of Medical Education CMH Institute of Medical Sciences, Bahawalpur during from September 2020 to Jan 2021. Methodology: The data was collected from 200 participants of different age groups from FSc to Ist year of medical colleges. We wish to examine the difficulties that students and their families faced at the beginning and during their medical education in Pakistan. Results: A total of 200 people were surveyed. Interviews were performed with each and every one of the individuals who had been shortlisted. We then come across the following issues that students and their families faced while pursuing medical degrees in Pakistan. The mainstay of education at the undergraduate and graduate levels is the standardisation of instruction. Lectures are considered to be the most efficient method of delivering information to students, as they need minimal engagement from the students. Conclusion: Medical educationists, teachers, administrators, and policymakers in poor nations should endeavour to transform the adversary of difficulties into a chance to construct excellent learning programmes. Abstract Introduction: Bedside teaching is an important but declining strategy in medical education. The regulatory authority’s insistence on structure of an institute needs be supplemented with quality of bedside teaching. The objective of this study was to find perceptions and compare bedside teaching among students of public and private medical colleges of Peshawar. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted at four medical colleges of Peshawar during the month of February 2020. A Likert scale tool with 30 items and four subscales; physical environment, patient’s comfort and student attitude, teaching session and teaching fellow was filled by 242 students. Mean score for each question and each subscale was calculated for each institute for perceptions. Mean score of two public and two private institutes for each subscale was compared by unpaired t-test. Results: Physical environment mean score was highest at Khyber Girls Medical College Peshawar (2.97±0.50). Patients’ comfort and students’ attitude mean score was approximately equal in four institutes. In teaching session, the highest mean score was reported by Khyber Girls Medical College and was lowest by Khyber Medical College. For teaching fellow, mean score was highest at Khyber Girls Medical College (3.70±0.67) and lowest at Kabir Medical College (2.85±0.55). For physical environment (public 2.87±0.48 vs. private 2.59±0.60) and teaching fellow scale (public 2.87±0.48 vs. private2.59±0.60) there was highly significant difference (p=0.0001). Conclusion: Mean score in four subscales are comparable in four institutes with some variation but there are significant differences between public and private institutes in physical environment and teaching fellow subscales. There are some consistencies and conflicts with regional and international literature. This needs in-depth qualitative exploration. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar a frequência do consumo de alimentos processados e ultraprocessados e verificar a associação entre estado nutricional por adolescentes do ensino público e privado do município de Arroio do Tigre, RS. Trata-se de um estudo transversal realizado com adolescentes, com idade entre 10 e 15 anos, de uma escola pública e uma privada de Arroio do Tigre, RS. O estado nutricional foi avaliado pelo índice de massa corporal. Aplicou-se um questionário de frequência alimentar contendo alimentos processados e ultraprocessados. A amostra foi composta por 64 adolescentes com idade média de 12,03±1,15 anos, sendo 53,1% da escola pública. A maioria dos adolescentes encontravam-se eutróficos (p=0,343), e quando comparado com o consumo de alimentos processados e ultraprocessados, a maioria dos escolares eutróficos relataram maior frequência no consumo de balas e chicletes (50,0%) e barra de cereais (51,0%), de 1 a 3 vezes por semana (p=0,004; p=0,029, respectivamente). Houve também uma maior frequência de consumo de alimentos processados e ultraprocessados como pizza (73,5%; p0,001), refrigerante (58,8%; p=0,036) e biscoito recheado (58,8%; p=0,008) entre 1 a 3 vezes por semana na escola pública em comparação a escola privada. O consumo de suco de pacote (p=0,013) foi relatado não ser consumido pela maioria dos alunos da escola particular em comparação a escola pública. Os dados encontrados evidenciam um consumo expressivo de alimentos processados e ultraprocessados pelos adolescentes de ambas as escolas, destacando alimentos com alto teor de açúcar e sódio.Palavras-chave: Hábitos alimentares. A food frequency questionnaire containing processed and ultraprocessed foods was applied. The sample consisted of 64 adolescents with a mean age of 12.03±1.15 years, 53.1% of the public school. Most of the adolescents were eutrophic (p=0.343), and when compared to the consumption of processed and ultraprocessed foods, most eutrophic schoolchildren reported a higher frequency of bullets and chewing gum (50.0%) and cereal bars (51.0%), 1 to 3 times per week (p=0.004, p=0.029, respectively). There was also a higher frequency of consumption of processed and ultraprocessed foods such as pizza (73.5%, p0.001), refrigerant (58.8%, p=0.036) and stuffed biscuit (58.8%, p=0.008) between 1 to 3 times a week in public school compared to private school. Consumption of packet juice (p=0.013) was reported not to be consumed by the majority of private school students compared to public school. Conclusion: The data found evidenced an expressive consumption of processed and ultraprocessed foods by the adolescents of both schools, highlighting foods with high sugar and sodium content.Keywords: Food Habits. Background: Ever since quality of services is gaining importance in every industry as it is the indicator of consumer/customer satisfaction, it is of utmost importance to measure service quality of educational institutes to determine the satisfaction of students. Thus, the study aimed to determine the important factors in service quality dimensions which contribute to the satisfaction of students. Methods: This was a Comparative Cross Sectional study in which final year department of physical therapy (DPT) students were included from three private and three public physiotherapy institutes. Results: The largest mean Positive Gap scores for Public Physiotherapy Institutes was 0.18 for accessibility and affordability 0.18. The largest negative mean gap score for Private Physiotherapy domain was “Accessibility and Affordability” found to be -1.96. Conclusion: Students were satisfied with service quality of private institutes in all domains except for the “Accessibility and Affordability” whereas, in Public Institutes largest negative quality gaps were found in “Empathy” and “Assurance”.

Objective: To assess the magnitude of the problem of injection safety in public and private health facilities in two districts of Sindh and Punjab provinces of Pakistan. Methods: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted between October and December 2020 among public and private health facilities of two districts of Pakistan: Gujarat in Punjab and Larkana in Sindh provinces. A convenient sample size of 60 healthcare facilities (30 from each district) was taken due to time and resource constraint. Six data collection tools were used which included structured observations and interviews with injection prescribers and providers based on WHO Revised Tool C, which were finalised after piloting. Results: Reuse of injection equipment was not observed in any of the 60 health facilities. In exit interviews of 120 patients, it was found that 27 (22.5%) patients reported receiving an injection, while 11 (9.2%) were prescribed intravenous (IV) drips. More injections and drips were prescribed in the private sector (n=15; 25.0%) in comparison with the public sector (n=12; 20.0%). Slightly higher proportion of IV drips were prescribed by the private providers when compared to public sector healthcare providers: 6 (10.0%) vs 5 (8.3%) respectively. Most of the prescribers (n=58; 96.7%) reported that patients who attended public and private health facilities demanded injectable medicines. To examine the incidence of contamination and current practice of decontamination of nebulisers after use within a ventilator circuit, in public- and private sector intensive care units (ICUs) in Johannesburg; to assess the presence of and adherence to a decontamination protocol in these ICUs and to identify which practices were associated with lower or no bacterial growth. Methods: A cross-sectional study design was used which included a semi-structured interview with the ICU manager and an audit of current nebuliser practice. Nebulisers that were identified in the interview were swabbed and streaked on blood agar plates (BAPs). BAPs were incubated and assessed for bacterial colonisation, number of colony forming units (CFUs) and number of different species of CFUs present. Results: Two hundred and sixty-nine ICU beds were surveyed over a two-month period resulting in 45 nebulisers used within a ventilator circuit that could be tested. The majority (93%) were single-use jet nebulisers, all were being re-used and 52% presented with contamination. None of the ICUs had a nebuliser decontamination protocol in place. Contaminated nebulisers that were stored in a sterile drape had significantly higher concentrations of bacterial growth (p=0.03). Conclusion: The rate of colonisation of re-used jet nebulisers is high. Nebuliser decontamination protocols are urgently needed.
