Gonialosa manmina was found to spawn once in a year from February to July in the Kaptai Lake. The fish was found to attain sexual maturity at 80 mm total length. Sex ratio of male and female was 1:2.39 (?2 = 26.25, df = 1, P<0.01). Female dominated significantly over male throughout the year. Seven stages of maturity were determined on the basis of morphological characteristics of gonads and diameter of ova. Fecundity of 24 fishes ranged from 13460 eggs to 56980 eggs with a mean of 32003±12612 eggs. Fecundity factor was 1882 eggs g-1 body weight. A total of 1183 Botia Dario (Hamilton) samples were collected from Rajshahi (Shaheb Bazar, Binodpur Bazar, Talaimari Bazar, Kazla Bazar and Godagari) during the period from January, 2002 to August, 2003 to study the fecundity, sex-ratio, relationship between fecundity and total length, standard length, body weight, ovary length as well as ovary weight. The mean fecundity was calculated as 31833.50±10313.42 with a range of 5245 to 53754 in fishes ranging in total length from 96 mm to 135 mm (mean 115.50±12.11 mm) and in body weight from 14.51 g to 43.29 g (mean 29.71±6.91 g). The relationship between the fecundity (F) and total length (TL), standard length (SL), body weight (BW), ovary length (OL) and ovary weight (OW) were found to be linear with the ‘r’ values 0.94, 0.94, 0.95, 0.92 and 0.98, respectively. The ovum diameter ranged from 0.3 to 0.72 mm and the mean diameter was calculated as 0.518±0.06 mm. The male to female ratio was 1:0.61. Key words: Botia dario, fecundity, sex-ratio. Univ. j. zool. Investigation on the Reproductive Biology of Bagrus bayad in Jibiya Dam from Katsina State, Nigeria was carried out from July – December 2019 using standard procedures. One hundred and sixteen (116) samples of B. bayad were harvested and collected during the study period in order to determine sex ratio, fecundity and Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) of the fish species. Results indicated that the male:female sex ratio was 1.3:1 which was not significantly different from the hypothetical 1:1 (p>0.05). It was also found that the GSI of B. bayad was highest in July (0.23) and lowest in October (0.12). The relationship between fecundity and ovary weight was positively significant (p<0.05). Similarly, there was a significant positive relationship between fecundity and body weight as well as between ovary weight and age (p<0.05). However, no significant relationship was found between ovary weight and body weight, body weight and age and between fecundity and age (p>0.05). It is recommended that comparative study on the stages of maturity of male and female B. bayad in Jibiya Dam be investigated.

Fecundity of guchibaim, Mastacembelus pancalus was described based on 100 samples collected from the experimental ponds of the Field Laboratory Complex, Faculty of Fisheries, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from May to July 2007. The surveyed sample ranged from 115 to165mm in total length and 6.97±0.44 to 10.52±0.22g in average body weight. The ovary weight of the specimens varied from 0.77±2.61 to 5.19±0.29g. The fecundity was found to vary from 881.50±44.03 to 1182.30±27.33 eggs. The relationship between fecundity and total length was linear and it was expressed as: Y= 4.3927x+398.02 (R2=0.5336). The relationship between fecundity and body weight was linear and it was expressed as: Y= 67.319x+449.62 (R2=0.7446). The relationship between fecundity and ovary weight was also linear and it was expressed as: Y=72.36x+799.77 (R2=0.9189). The fecundity was highly correlated with the total length, body weight and ovary weight of fish and the Mastacembelus pancalus is a low fecund fish. Blood samples were collected from five pregnant sows from day 111 postbreeding to farrowing and from their piglets at regular intervals between birth and 48 h. The time between birth and first suckling (BTS) was recorded for each piglet. Maternal serum testosterone (T) levels were detectable only at the beginning of parturition and were highly correlated (r = 0.83) with litter BTS. Serum T levels of male and female piglets were similar at birth. In male piglets the T levels increased to a peak 2 h after birth and decreased gradually thereafter. In contrast, the T levels of female piglets declined rapidly after birth to baseline levels. The BTS of female piglets was shorter than that of male piglets. Body weight of males was higher than that of females and was influenced by litter size. These results suggest that the higher serum T levels of male piglets may have a detrimental effect on their teat-seeking ability. Biology of the spotted barb Barbodes binotatus (Valenciennes, 1842) in Barambai River, east Kalimantan is unknown. This study aimed to analyses sizes of fish, sex ratio, length-weight relationship and condition factor of the spotted barb. A total of 347 fish samples were collected by several gears in Barambai River from August to October 2017. The results of this research showed that the total length of the fish ranged from 45.67 to 146.01 mm and weight ranged from 1.27-43.34 g. The sex ratio of male and female were 1:1.12. The length-weight equations for males was W = 1x10-5 L3.063, W = 8x10-6L3.108 for females, and W = 9 x 10-6 L3.091 for both sexes. The condition factor (K) for the spotted barb was ranged between 0.826 – 2.214 with mean value of 1.163.  AbstrakBiologi ikan wader bintik dua Barbodes binotatus (Valenciennes, 1842) di Sungai Barambai, Kalimantan Timur belum diketahui. Abstract A total of 871 females (76–122 cm) and 86 males (68–100 cm) of Centroscymnus coelolepis caught in Portuguese mainland waters were examined for reproductive characteristics. One hermaphroditic individual of 95 cm was found. Males were few in numbers and dominated by immature specimens. Female length at first sexual maturity was 98.5 cm. Mean ovarian and uterine fecundity were 13.2 oocytes per female and 9.9 embryos per pregnant female, respectively. Total length of embryos with completely absorbed external yolk sacs ranged between 233 and 300 mm. Sex ratio (F/M) of embryos with completely absorbed external yolk sac was 0.9. All stages of reproduction were found during the 12-month sampling period. Results were compared with those from other regions. A hypothesis is formulated on the existence of several regional populations based on morphometric and reproductive parameters observed in different areas.

the reproductive biology of 1045 female (9.5–67 cm (total length (tl)) and 1007 male (9.4–64.3 cm tl) blackmouth catsharks, galeus melastomus, was investigated. the sharks were caught off southern portugal by bottom crustacean trawlers at depths from 209 to 754 m. the sex ratio was 1:1, and this species is sexually dimorphic with males approaching maturity at smaller size than females. sexual segregation appears to be given for the stock within the study area. sexual maturity was reached at a total length above 49 cm in males and above 56 cm in females. mating and egg-deposition take place all year round, with two reproductive peaks of activity, in winter and summer. egg capsules are, on average, 54 mm long and 21 mm wide, with a maximum of 63×25 mm encountered. morphometric measurements of claspers, testes, ovaries, and oviducal glands were suitable for determining sexual maturity of blackmouth catshark.

The fecundity for 40 wild freshwater spiny eel Mastacembelus armatus estimated from Mymensingh region, Bangladesh during the breeding period from March to July 2004. The estimation of fecundity (mature ova) ranged from 3,155 to 24,684 eggs, the maximum fecundity was observed from a fish measuring 535 mm in length and 350 g in weight and the minimum from a fish of 260 mm in length and 51 g in weight. The maximum ova diameter was 2.75 mm in the month of April and minimum was 1.45 mm in May with a median of 2.08 mm in the month of March and then a sudden decrease in July (1.84 mm). The average number of ova present per gm body weight was 70.19 while the average number of ova present per gm ovary weight was 888.04. Fecundity increased with the increase in length and weight of the fish. Maximum GSI value for female spiny eel was 21.67% in the month of March and the minimum GSI value for the same gender was 3.30% in April and the median GSI value for the same was 8.06% in the month of May. The regressions of fecundity on body length, body weight and gonad weight of female spiny eels were Log F = 2.59 - 2.72 × Log L (r = 0.86), Log F = 1.00 + 1.84 × Log BW (r = 0.88) and Log F = 0.69 + 3.25 × Log GW (r = 0.75) respectively, where F is fecundity, L is total length (mm), BW is body weight (g) and GW is gonad weight (g). Fecundity-total length and fecunditybody weight gave a better relationship in comparison with fecundity-gonad weight relationship.

The relationships between egg weight, body weight and sexual maturity and their inheritance were studied in the F1 of two grandparent strains of laying birds. Each strain had two lines. Data used for analyses comprised body weight at first egg, 30 weeks and 40 weeks of age (BFE, B30 and B40); weight of first egg (WFE), weight of egg at 30 weeks and 40 weeks (W30, W40) and age of birds at first egg (AFE). Phenotypic correlations between AFE and BFE, AFE and WFE and between WFE and BFE were 0.45 and 0.40; 0.96 and 0.11, 0.65 and 0.85 for male and female lines respectively. While AFE generally showed additive inheritance which was sire influenced, BFE and WFE were line dependent. The crossbred groups however, appeared to be at advantage over the purebreds in respect of these three traits.

The study was conducted for a period of twelve months from January to December 2006 to determine the gonadosomatic index (GSI) and fecundity of Mystus gulio. Total 370 of Mystus gulio were examined during the study period. The sex ratio (male:female) of the investigated fish was 1:1.22 and generally female was larger than male. The fish was found to have a wide spawning season (March to November) with a single spawning peak in July as indicated by the gonadosomatic index and ova diameter. Fecundity of the fish was ranged from 3,891 to 1,68,358 with an average of 32,909.49 during the period of study and was found to increase with the increase of body length and weight. The relationships between fecundity and total-length, body-weight, gonad-length and gonad-weight were found linear and statistically highly significant (p<0.05).DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3329/pa.v19i2.16957 Progress.
