The children’s art occupies an important place in the cultural space. Each child’s drawing reflects the culture of an epoch and therefore it can be investigated as a special document. Historical events, rituals, traditions, habits, clothing – everything is demonstrated in the children’s artwork. The children’s art language has specific features. It is generalized, spontaneous, expressive and schematic. All these characteristics give us reason to talk about children’s visual meta-language. In order to interpret children’s drawings correctly, we must know the principles of the meta-language. Each child’s drawing is a source of information about the tangible and spiritual culture of an epoch. Very often the children’s drawings possess some of the qualities of the works of art, created by mature artists. However, children’s art has its own principles, specific qualities and methods of creativity and therefore it is given a sovereign place in the world of fine arts.

Omar el-Nagdi began his art education at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 1953. He received a second bachelor’s degree in 1957 from the Faculty of Applied Arts in Cairo. In addition to his studies in Egypt, El-Nagdi studied abroad in Russia, Italy and Holland. Beginning in 1957, El-Nagdi served as an instructor at the Faculty of Applied Arts in Cairo. Omar el-Nagdi’s early works were primarily figural paintings inspired by Egyptian folk traditions. In the 1960s, he shifted to full abstraction and the calligraphic Arabic letters became a prominent theme in his work. El-Nagdi also created a running series of sculptural works that translated the angular figures from his early paintings into three-dimensional forms.

This article discusses the processes that are taking place in contemporary decorative art. We are using materials and experience of the All-Russian open exhibition II Ural Triennial of Decorative Art, which brings together both domestic artists and masters from the neighbouring countries. Analysing different sections of the triennial (textile, glass, stonecutting), we explore various artistic trends and their potential to, eventually, become established schools of decorative and applied arts. Increasing acceptance from the professional art institutions is also recommended and required, since in Russia decorative art is still excluded from the list of “fine arts”. The example of the Ural Triennial shows that contemporary decorative artists are engaged in active experimentation, combining traditional and new materials and techniques. The result is a promising glimpse into the future of decorative and applied arts. Keywords: contemporary art, arts and crafts, Ural Triennial

The recent Exhibition of works of Greek art held at the Burlington Fine Arts Club—although necessarily limited to comparatively small objects—has been sufficient to prove that the traditional wealth of our English collections of classical antiquities still remains a fact. The Exhibition, moreover, has had its use in eliciting information as to works of art on a larger scale, hitherto unknown and unrecorded, that had escaped the vigilance of Waagen and of Conze, of Michaelis and of Furtwängler, and even of our English archaeologists. Thus it was that when the Exhibition was little more than planned I learnt from the well known sculptor, Countess Feodora Gleichen, that there existed at Lyme Park, Lord Newton's Cheshire seat, three fine sculptured Stelai from the best period of Attic art. I am grateful to the owner for granting me permission to publish these inedited works in this Journal, which ought indeed to be the official gazette of the English collections. I have unfortunately been unable to avail myself as yet of Lord Newton's further permission to study the originals. But as photographs of the Stelai are now extant, I have thought it wiser not to postpone the publication for fear that it might be anticipated elsewhere. The information kindly given me by Lord Newton himself has facilitated the discussion and interpretation of the Stelai which, for the rest, are perfectly straightforward examples of their class.

This article discusses about drawing on configuration of art education, a philosophy perspective. Drawing is discussed philosophically which is based on: ontology, epistemology, and axiology. Drawing is a work of fine arts. Drawing can be defined as a picture or diagram which is drowned by using pencil, pen or painting crayon, especially a monochrome picture. From philosophical side, drawing has a “truth”. Drawing that comes pure from mind represent a shape of two dimensional look. Education; drawing will form honesty (Logico Aestheticus) and truth (Logico Mathematicus). Ontologically (intrinsic substance), drawing actually is observing a shape detail and will relate to thought from science perspective and other knowledge towards object observation.
