IntroductionMTHFR methylation status is associated with microvascular complications in diabetes, but the factors influencing this profile remain unknown.ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of physical activity level and nutritional status on the methylation profile of the MTHFR gene in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).MethodsA total of 111 patients, 43 men and 68 women diagnosed with DM (7.0 ± 2.3 years), answered the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and underwent blood collection for biochemical analysis, DNA extraction, and MTHFR gene methylation profile determination.ResultThe comparison of the methylation pattern showed that the partially methylated profile predominates in the insufficiently active group (85%), which does not occur in the sufficiently active group (54%) (p = 0.012). No differences were found in the nutritional status comparison. Logistic regression including overweight, waist circumference, gender, age, time of DM, hypertension, dyslipidemia, smoking, alcoholism, and family DM revealed that the association of the level of physical activity with methylation profile proved to be independent of these confounding variables. Considering the partially methylated profile as a result, being physically inactive favors the partially methylated MTHFR pattern in patients with DM.ConclusionWe concluded that insufficient physical activity is associated with partially methylated pattern of MTHFR promoter.

ABSTRACT Objective: To verify the association of nutritional status, biological maturation, social support and self-efficacy with the physical activity level of 2,347 students of both sexes, aged between 11 and 15 years old, enrolled in state schools in the city of Curitiba, Paraná, Brazil. Methods: Anthropometric measurements of body mass, height and sitting height were collected. The assessment of biological maturation was based on the analysis of the age at peak height and sexual maturity. The physical activity level, social support from parents and friends and self-efficacy were evaluated by self-reported questionnaires. Sex/age-specific body mass index (BMI) cutoff points identified the nutritional status. Gross and adjusted binary logistic regression were used to obtain odds (OR) ratios with 95% confidence intervals (95%CI), adopting p≤0.05 as significant. Results: More than half (52.3%; n=1,227) of students were active, with boys in a higher proportion (64.1%; p≤0.01). The correlates of physical activity were: nutritional status (OR 1.25; 95%CI 1.01-1.56), early somatic maturation (OR 0.71; 95%CI 0.54-0.93), moderate (OR 1.85; 95%CI 1.50-2.30) and high social support from parents (OR 2.70; 95%CI 2.11-3.42) and high social support from friends (OR 1.78; 95%CI 1.42-2.24). Conclusions: Nutritional status, early somatic maturation, social support of parents and friends were correlates of physical activity. Overweight girls with moderate and high parental support and boys with greater social support from parents and friends were more active. Girls with early somatic maturation were less active.

The worker productivity is correlated with nutritional status and health status. The objective of the research is to analyze physical activity, energy intake</span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us">, nutritional status, of women workers at Tea Plantation PTPN VIII Bandung, West Java.</span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us"> The cross sectional design was used in this study to elaborate physical activity, nutritional status, and productivity of tea picker’s women. The criteria of study sample were tea picker’s women at cluster area of Malabar tea plantation of PTPN VIII Bandung, having infant and they were willing to be interviewed. The total number of 92 women sample was chosen randomly. Primary data consisted of physical activity recall (2x24 hours), food consumption <span>recall</span> (2x24 hours), anthropometry data (weight and height), and productivity (passage of tea sprout). Secondary data were included data of PT Perkebunan Nusantara VIII Bandung, West Java. The result showed that more than a half of samples having active or moderate physical activity level (PAL). The physical activity level of samples during work day (average PAL=1.87) was higher than holiday (average PAL=1.69) (p&lt;0.05). The physical activity was related to energy expenditure. According to Schofield equation, energy expenditure of sample during workday (average=2362 kcal) was significantly higher (p&lt;0.05) than day off (average=2134 kcal). This result is related to Oxford equation, energy expenditure of sample during workday (average=2223 kcal) was significantly higher than holiday (average=2011 kcal). The related factors of energy expenditure are body weight and age. Energy intake on workday and day off were respectively </span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us">2362 kcal and 2134 kcal</span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us">. The average energy adequacy level during workday and day off according to Schofield and Oxford equation were </span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us">not significantly different</span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us">, respectively </span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us">97,2% and 103,3%. </span></em><em><span style="font-size: 10pt;" lang="en-us" xml:lang="en-us">The majority of samples had normal nutritional status, and 30.4% of the sample was overweight. AbstractWe aimed to examine the associations of adipocytokines and circulating bone metabolism markers with bone mineral parameters in early pubertal boys with different physical activity level.Eighty-six early pubertal boys were divided into active and non-active boys according to the accumulated moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) level. Body composition and bone mineral parameters were assessed and testosterone, leptin, adiponectin, osteocalcin (OC), and C-terminal telopeptide of type I collagen (CTX) were measured.Active subjects had significantly lower (p<0.05) body mass, body mass index (BMI), fat mass (FM), leptin, and sedentary time values, while non-active subjects had lower (p<0.05) vigorous physical activity level and femoral neck bone mineral density (FN-BMD). OC contributed to the models in physically active group and explained 6.6% and 9.7% of variance in whole body (WB) [F(5,44)=10.847; p<0.001] and lumbar spine bone mineral content (LS-BMC) [F(5,44)=4.158; p=0.004], respectively. No other biochemical parameters were found to be related to bone mineral parameters in either the active or non-active group.Bone metabolism markers were positively correlated with bone mineral values only in active pubertal boys. Leptin and adiponectin were not related to bone mineral parameters in active and non-active pubertal boys.

The study aimed to analyze the association among adults daily physical activities and dietary patterns with central adiposity in the Gorontalo Regency, Indonesia. The study method was an observational with a cross-sectional design. Sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with a total participants of 319. The data of socio-demographic, anthropometric measurement, and physical activity were collected using Physical Activity Level (PAL). While food consumption data were obtained using the method of food frequency and recall 2 x 24 hours. Subjects studied were females (77.7%) and males (22.3%), abdominal circumference for men subjects 82.3 ± 14.6 cm and 84.7 ± 12.4 cm for women, the mean physical activity level on weekdays 1.54 ± 0.2 and holidays 1.53 ± 0.1. Energy intake was higher in respondents with normal nutritional status than subjects with central obesity but did not differ significant between the subject study. In protein intake, there was a significant difference between the subject study, which is, the consumption of protein was higher in subjects with normal nutritional status (97.93 gr) compared to the subjects with central obesity (96.24 gr). Food groups with frequent scores, above 0.43 were rice, fresh fish, kale, tomato, chili, coconut oil, and palm oil. There was association between physical activity and central obesity (p-value 0.027). Eating habits included frequency of staple foods, animal-based protein, plant-based protein, vegetables, fruit, oil, and beverage groups showed no significant association with central obesity. There was an association between central obesity with physical activity but no association with dietary patterns.
