The shift to working from home, which has intensified due to Covid-19, increased our reliance on communication technology and the need to communicate effectively via computer-mediated communication and especially via text. Paralinguistic cues, such as repeated punctuation, are used to compensate for the lack of non-verbal cues in text-based formats. However, it is unclear whether these cues indeed bridge the potential gap between the writer’s intentions and the reader’s interpretations. A pilot study and two experiments investigated the effect of using repeated punctuation on behavioral intention to assist an email writer in a work-related situation. Findings demonstrate that while the intentions behind using repeated punctuation relate to signaling situational importance or affective state, behavioral intentions are driven by dispositional rather than situational attributions. Specifically, the use of repeated punctuation reduces perceived competence of the message writer and consequently decreases positive behavioral intentions. Overall, the study challenges the simplified view of paralinguistic cues as communication facilitators, highlighting their potential harmful effects on impression formation and behavioral intentions in the digital age.

Iraq is a wide country in the area and construction projects have been distributed in many places, therefore this research studies the ability to use advanced communication tools such as computer-mediated communication instead of traditional communication (Face To Face). Revit application which based on BIM technology have been used , this application helped in exchange design information between designer and site engineer for in making decisions , solving problems ,reduce wasted time and reduce the expenses that occur as a result of the use of FTF communication .The results concluded from this research are that communication quantity in FTF was more than in CMC where Total Number of Words (TNOW) were in FTF 303 while in CMC 246 , The percentage of Number of Work Related Words said in CMC is higher than in FTF, it was 87% in CMC and 81% in FTF of the (TNOW) , it is indicating that communication in CMC more productive than communication in FTF, in addition to that the working time in CMC were (262 seconds every 5-minutes) slightly higher than in FTF were (252 seconds every 5-minutes), this  explains that CMC was slightly more productive than FTF . Wasted time for FTF consistently higher than wasted time in CMC  ,where the averages of wasted time spent for every 5 minutes were 32 second in FTF and 21 in CMC ,this is due to that FTF was easier than CMC in terms of social speech. To identify  degree collaboration between users in two methods by the total number of exchanges in CMC was higher than in FTF because most of the persons were having more interaction when using CMC.

In face-to-face interactions, people generally form impressions by focusing on a variety of nonverbal cues. Increasingly, however, people are communicating virtually and forming impressions based on mediated interactions. In an online environment, the range of nonverbal cues that normally aid in impression formation is drastically narrowed. In the absence of these nonverbal cues, forming impressions via computer-mediated communication places a greater emphasis on verbal (text-based) and linguistic cues. This chapter offers strategies to ensure virtual workers make a good impression on their clients and colleagues when interacting online.

As communication technology improves, computer-mediated communication (CMC) increases in use for interpersonal interaction. While there are newer forms of CMC that interface with audio, graphic, and video data, for the most part text-based CMC (i.e., e-mail, IRC, other text chat) remains the most common and frequently used. The increased use of text-based CMC medium is not without its problems, as is the case with any other communication media. Text only CMC lacks the capacity to transmit nonverbal cues. This study explores CMC medium in communication misunderstandings. The findings indicate that although participants acknowledge the lack of nonverbal cues as a source of misunderstandings during interactions, they still express the willingness to use text-based CMC in resolving misunderstandings. This article also provides discussions, implications, and recommendations.

Communication technology and the internet  have developed quite rapidly from time to time. The development of communication  technology and the internet has changed the way human’s communication. Human interaction is no longer limited to face-to-face meetings, but has now shifted to interaction or communication using computer and internet media which are not limited to space and time. This mediated communication is known as Computer Mediated Communication (CMC). Communication through the CMC was developed by various application  providers to facilitate internet users in communicating, one of which is through the Instagram application. Text, images and videos are included in the type of computer mediated communication (CMC) interaction. The CMC interaction is used by internet users from various circles, including millennial mothers. This research was conducted to find out how the role of CMC in developing self-potential among millennial mothers. This research is a qualitative research using semi-structured interviews as a data collection method. The findings in this study indicate that informants are selective in presenting themselves through the selection of images, videos and descriptions before uploading on the Instagram page so that they are able to display their potential.

As digital tools and social networks became the main mode of interaction for many people, interpersonal communication has changed. Computer-mediated communication (CMC) has become more important than face-to-face communication in many contexts. Younger generations prefer CMC. Personal interaction normally consists of verbal and non-verbal communication. Computer-mediated communication lacks traditional non-verbal cues, which may cause misunderstandings, influencing meaningful interpersonal communication. Because of a lack of face-to-face communication, people often present an idealised version of themselves, thus becoming less inhibited involving more inappropriate self-disclosure on, for instance, social networks. The research question for this literature review was whether communicating with others mainly through digital means without adequate non-verbal cues would influence meaningful interaction between people. This study used the cues-filtered-out approach and the social presence theory with a literature review to get some clarity on the above question. The premise of the author was that because of the lack of non-verbal cues, CMC messages could influence the understanding of emotions and attitudes, thus compromising meaningful communication and personal understanding of the other. The outcome was that in today’s world people have to use CMC, but for meaningful interpersonal communication, they should try to combine it with face-to-face interaction.

Communication accommodation theory predicts that social power plays an important role in influencing communicative behaviors. Previous research suggests these effects extend to linguistic style, thought to be a nonconscious aspect of communication. Here, we explore if these effects hold when individuals converse using a medium limited in personal cues, computer-mediated communication. We manipulated social power in instant messaging conversations and measured subsequent interpersonal impressions. Low power induced greater likelihood of linguistic style accommodation, across between- (Study 1) and within-subjects (Study 2) experiments. Accommodation by those in a low-power role had no impact on impressions formed by their partner. In contrast, linguistic style accommodation by individuals in a high-power role was associated with negative interpersonal impressions formed by their lower power partner. The results show robust effects of power in shaping language use across computer-mediated communication. Furthermore, the interpersonal effects of linguistic accommodation depend on the conversational norms of the social context.
