In the context of sustainable development, air pollution poses challenges to the adjustment of the industrial structure in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. In order to explore the relationship between air pollution and urban industrial development, this paper uses a simultaneous equation model to empirically analyze the relationship between PM2.5 concentration and industrial development based on panel data from 2000 to 2017 on the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. The empirical results show that there is a two-way causal relationship between industrial development and air pollution. Secondary industry upgrades to tertiary industry, which will help improve the air quality in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. At the same time, air pollution has a significant adverse effect on the development of secondary industry and tertiary industry. An average increase of 1% in PM2.5 concentration will cause the proportion of secondary industry to increase by about 0.08% to 0.28%, and the proportion of tertiary industry to decrease by about 0.13% to 0.31%. Based on the results of the empirical model, this paper puts forward policy recommendations for environmental governance in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, aiming to achieving healthy development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

Based on the statistical data during the period from 2000 to 2008 released by Henan Statistical Bureau in China, this paper applied the grey relational analysis to analyze the relationship between industrial structure including primary industry, secondary industry, tertiary industry and economic growth in Henan province in China. After detailed research, some results have been concluded for Henan province, the first of which is the relationship between industrial structure and economic growth during the period from 2000 to 2008 is very close, and the primary industry is the most important causation that brings about economic growth, the second of which is that tertiary industry played lager important significance than secondary industry during the economic growth in Henan province in China. Research results could provide valuable information for policy makers in government in their efforts to make appropriate economic polices.

The adjustment of industrial structure is an important engine driving the economic growth. The relationship between industrial structure evolution and economic growth is characterized by various stages. The article uses the data of 31 provincial units in China from 1978 to 2016 as a sample, divided into five stages with time as nodes, and takes the rationalization and optimization of industrial structure (OIS) as indicators to measure the adjustment of industrial structure. The main research conclusions are obtained through cointegration test, Granger test and simultaneous equation model. Results indicate that the relationship between OIS and economic growth shows the characteristics of mutual influence, while the rationalization of industrial structure unilaterally affects economic growth. Rationalization of industrial structure has significantly stimulated economic growth, especially in the past 10 years after China’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). The stimulating effect of OIS on China’s economic growth has not yet been fully demonstrated. This indicates that the OIS, as a new momentum of economic growth, has not yet been brought into presently in China. Economic growth has a driving effect on the OIS. However, it is only when the economic development enters a relatively mature stage can this driving effect be gradually brought into play.

This paper studies the causal relationship between energy consumption and economic growth in Beijing by using econometric method from 1980 to 2012, and then establishes the model between the energy consumption of three industries and economic growth to study the influence of the secondary industry and tertiary industry energy consumption on economic growth in Beijing. Finally, we put forward counter measures and suggestions on sustainable development of Beijing's economy and energy industry.

This research explores the relationship between gender identity, the mastery identity, and control over one's partner in intimate relationships. While gender identity is viewed as a role identity, that is, an identity that is tied to the social structure, the mastery identity is conceptualized as a person identity, that is, an identity that is tied to the person. Using a sample of college-age dating couples, a simultaneous equation model is estimated to determine the relationship between a role identity and a person identity, and how these identities mutually influence control over one's partner in interaction.

Purpose The extant literature reports mixed and inconclusive findings concerning the relationship between corporate governance mechanisms and firm performance. To provide incremental insight, this paper aims to investigate whether the bi-directional relationships among managerial ownership, board independence and firm performance are determined. Design/methodology/approach This paper uses a data set consisting of 9,302 firm-year observations of Australian listed companies during 2005-2015 and a three-stage least squares simultaneous equation model to test the bi-directional relationships. Findings The results indicate that both managerial ownership and board independence inversely affect firm performance and vice versa. In addition, board independence is negatively correlated with managerial ownership and vice versa. Practical implications The convergence-of-interests hypothesis can be achieved by manipulating managerial ownership through making contingent payments. Board independence, as a voluntary regime in Australia, can provide additional flexibility to corporate decision makers. Originality/value This study provides additional evidence by using the convergence-of-interests hypothesis vis-à-vis the entrenchment hypothesis to examine the relationship between managerial ownership and firm performance, and tests the association of board independence and firm performance using the explanation of agency theory vis-à-vis stewardship theory.

This paper selects the panel data of 16 cities in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration from 2005 to 2015, and uses differences-in-differences model to analyze the impact of high-speed railways on the industrial structure and Carbon Emission of the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration. The results show that the construction of high-speed rail has reduced the proportion of the secondary industry and has a significant role in promoting the development of the tertiary industry. Among them, fixed asset investment increased the proportion of the secondary industry and the tertiary industry, and technology investment decreased the proportion of the secondary industry, and increased the proportion of the tertiary industry, indicating that the improvement of the level of informatization is helpful to the development of the tertiary industry. It is proposed that a more reasonable evaluation system for the economic effects of highspeed rail should be established. At the same time, the impact of high-speed rail construction on the industrial structure is different. When formulating policies, we must not only weigh the spillover effect and siphon effect of high-speed rail, but also give full play to the carbon reduction effect of economic agglomeration.

The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of handwashing on poverty reduction and life expectancy. The Covid-19 pandemic, which is ongoing and has not yet ended after more than a year in Indonesia, reminds us of the importance of maintaining health, especially through simple methods, namely washing hands frequently. Referring to previous research, health is an important factor that affects many things, including life expectancy and poverty. The existence of the Covid-19 pandemic seems to be an alarm that reminds us of the importance of getting used to washing hands frequently in an effort to maintain health. Therefore, this research is deemed necessary to use data from provinces in Indonesia. The relationship between handwashing habits and their effect on life expectancy and poverty reduction is also influenced by other interconnected variables, therefore data processing is carried out using the Simultaneous Equation Model analysis technique, as an effort to jointly examine the variables suspected to be the impact interrelated from this research. The results of this study indicate that the habit of washing hands in various provinces in Indonesia has a significant effect on life expectancy and poverty, so it needs to be continued and requires supportive policies, for example in the form of increasing awareness to stay healthy, stay save with more stay at home.   Abstrak Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menkaji dampak kebiasaan mencuci tangan terhadap pengurangan kemiskinan dan angka harapan hidup.
